Mr. Bennett was born May 23, 1926, in Childress County. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Amarillo Globe-News, July 1, 2003 Corene Holcomb Keeler SHAMROCK - Corene Holcomb Keeler, 91, died Monday, June 30, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ervin Emmert, retired minister, and the Rev. Terry Lowe, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Keeler was born in Anderson County to Tony and Troy Holcomb on Feb. 12, 1912. She lived in Shamrock for more than 50 years. She worked with her husband, Kenneth, in their business, Keeler TV and Radio Repair, for more than 30 years. They were also Amarillo Globe-News distributors for 17 years. She and her husband were married 33 years when he preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Shamrock. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include a sister, Eva Mae Richerson and husband, Glenn, of Shamrock; a sister-in-law, Clara Holcomb of Wheeler; a brother-in-law, Doyle Ramsey of Wheeler; and 21 nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, July 1, 2003 Amarillo Dr. Marian Taylor Giles Dr. Marian Taylor Giles, 69, formerly of Amarillo, died April 7, 2003, in Rockville, Md. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Central Church of Christ with Paul Sneed officiating. Private family committal will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home. Dr. Giles was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.L. Taylor of Amarillo. They both preceded her in death. She was a 1952 graduate of Amarillo High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from Abilene Christian University in 1955. She also held a master's degree in education from West Texas State University and a degree in developmental psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. A pioneer in the field of learning disabilities, she piloted a federally funded project during which she developed a unique classroom evaluation instrument that led to the publishing of her textbooks, training films, computer software and other classroom materials that became standard in public schools throughout the United States and other countries. During her long career, she was a classroom teacher, head of the special education department at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls and founded the Giles Institute and Learning Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was director of training and research at the Marianne Frostig Center of Education in Los Angeles and held numerous other positions in Colorado, Alaska and Texas - including Amarillo - as a teacher, diagnostician and researcher at various universities and clinics. She traveled widely presenting training seminars to teachers. Health problems forced her untimely retirement in 1996. However, during the last year of her life, she edited a newsletter for the residents of the care home where she lived. Dr. Giles leaves the legacy of thousands of children to whom she gave hope for a better life. Survivors include a son and his wife, Steve and Heidi Giles of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Sheila Langston of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Matthew, Barrett and Sarah Langston and Stephanie and Gwendolyn Giles; a sister, Vivian Taylor of Payson, Ariz.; two brothers, Stan Taylor and Dave Taylor, both of Amarillo; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; an aunt, Cocille Chambers of Amarillo; and numerous other relatives and friends. He preceded her in death in 1996. She lived a very full life. She was active in several organizations. She was a board member of the Amarillo Garden Club, member of the Federation of Women's Clubs, League of Women Voters and Republican Women. She was very faithful to Anna Street Church of Christ and a volunteer with several civic organizations. She was a devoted wife and caring aunt. She was involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews as much as she could be. She also worked for Blackburn Bros. in the candy department for several years. He lived most of his adult life in Houston where he and his wife, Lillian, made their home for 56 years. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982. Dain GUYMON, Okla. - Charles Enoch "C.E." Dain, 90, died Saturday, June 28, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Morning Star Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Shryock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Dain, the son of Bertha Platt and John Dain, was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Nash. He was united in marriage to Delpha Mae Davis on Nov. 30, 1939. He entered the Army in August 1942, serving in the European Theater in the Battle of Normandy. He received the EAME Service Ribbon, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He received an honorary discharge in August 1945 and returned to Texas County. He lived and farmed in the Hough Community, where he managed the Riffe-Gilmore Grain Elevator for many years. They were active members of Morning Star Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Guymon Masonic Lodge No. 335, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 61 years, Delpha Dain in Dec. 8, 2000; his parents; two brothers, Curtis Dain and Virgil Dain; and a sister, Minta Beer.
