Elkins, 82, of Amarillo died Tuesday, July 1, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount, with the Rev. Murray Gossett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Elkins was born in Amarillo. He was raised with his sister by a single mother and was the man of the house. He graduated from Amarillo High School and joined the Army in 1942, serving with the third Army division under Gen. Patton. He was discharged in 1945 and became office manager of Pinkney Packing Co. He was always interested in automobile racing and became the owner and operator of Amarillo Speed Bowl. During that time he founded and was the commissioner of the National Championship Racing Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and a sister, Betty Tupin. Survivors include a son, Pete Elkins; two nephews, Art Tupin and Randy Tupin, both of Amarillo; two great-nephews, Arthur Tupin Jr. and Scott Tupin; five great-great-nieces; and a life partner, Lucille Hinds. Amarillo Globe-News, July 3, 2003 Charles M. Austin Charles M. Austin, 75, of Amarillo died Monday, June 30, 2003. Prayer services were at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Francis Smyer and Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Austin was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada, to Helen and Claude Austin. He graduated from Price College in Amarillo. He married Dolores Folkner in Amarillo. Mr. Austin was in the Texas National Guard for nine years. He retired from Amarillo National Bank Trust Department after 23 years. Mr. Austin was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as Eucharist minister for many years. He was past president, life member and hall of fame bowler with the Amarillo Bowling Association. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilfrid Austin, George Austin and Walter Austin; and a sister, Jean McCorkle. Survivors include his wife, Dolores; a son, Carl C. Austin of Amarillo; two brothers, Robert H. Austin of Albuquerque, N.M., and Claude "Pal" Austin of Clayton, N.M.; two granddaughters, Kaylee Austin and Courtney Austin; and 22 nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, July 3, 2003 Darlene Hawpe Darlene Hawpe, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, June 30, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church of White Deer with Cindy Rowley, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hawpe was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Center Junction, Iowa. She was a bookkeeper for White Deer Bank and was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo. She married Miller Hawpe on March 20, 1946, in Rosemead, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993 and a son, Monty in 1990. Survivors include a son, Mike Hawpe of Mineral Wells; two daughters, Linda Parker of White Deer and Jenny Wood of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Patsy Micou and Peggy Capwell, both of Amarillo; a nephew, Jim Barlowe of Corona, Calif.; many loving grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Mike Garcia, elder, and Paul Wood, elder, officiating. Cremation will be by Memory Gardens Crematory. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Mr. Seymour was born in Canadian in 1912. He had lived in Amarillo since 1950 and worked in road construction. Survivors include his wife, Nellie; three sons, Arlin Seymour, Ervin Seymour and Edwin Seymour, all of Amarillo; a brother, Robert Seymour of Borger; eight grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren. He then lived in Las Vegas and San Diego. Survivors include three brothers, Boby Lewis and Eric Lewis, both of Albuquerque, and Johnny Lazoya of Dallas; and three sisters, Zina Cage of Las Vegas, Nicole Lazoya and Maria Lazoya, both of South Carolina. Mrs. Flynt was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Booker to Johnnie and Leola Daily Rogers. She worked from her home as a beautician in the various communities in Lipscomb County. Mrs. Padilla was born April 29, 1912, in Alamosa, N.M. She married J.O. Padilla in Gallegos, N.M., on Nov. 26, 1926. Mrs. Howe was born March 28, 1920, in Clarendon and had been a longtime resident of Panhandle. She married Clarence Harvey Howe on Aug. 20, 1939, in Panhandle. She was a member of Rainbow Girls, National Cowbelles Association, New Mexico Cowbelles Association and Wyoming Cowbelles Association. She was also a member of Extension Clubs in Clayton, N.M., a 4-H Leader, El Telran Daughters of the Nile in Cody, Wyo., Altrusian Club, Panhandle Athenium Club, Panhandle 55+ Club, and Panhandle Christians Women's Fellowship. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Panhandle. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995. Survivors include a son, Harold Howe of Panhandle; two daughters, Sandra Howe of Panhandle and Barbara Nichols of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Miller, 48, died Monday, June 30, 2003, in Dallas. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Azle. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth by Biggers Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a longtime faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was born Jan. 7, 1955, in Borger, and had been a resident of Azle since 1994. She was preceded in death by her father, Emmett F. Brown, and a brother, John F. Brown.
