Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Myers was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Navy. He was an acidizer for John Oates Inc. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Miami Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Stribling had been a lifelong resident of Miami. He was employed by the Postal Service in Pampa as a rural postal carrier. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Christian Church with Barry Walker, minister, and Rusty Hancock, pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Dennis was born June 8, 1917, in Wayne, Okla. She married Burris Dennis on Sept. 19, 1955. Survivors include a son, Darrell Dennis of Dalhart; two grandsons; and a brother, Elmer Ayres of Vega. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2003 Reba Myers Raef UMBARGER - Reba Myers Raef, 90, died Monday, July 14, 2003, in Amarillo. Vigil was at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger with the Rev. Scott Raef and other priests of the diocese officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger. Mrs. Raef was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Amarillo to George and Sylvia Reynolds Myers. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School and married Lewie L. Raef in Amarillo in 1933. They lived in St. Francis and Amarillo before moving to Umbarger in 1946. She owned and operated a grocery store in Umbarger and was the postmistress in Umbarger also. She was the primary activist to get the community water system in place in Umbarger, and was a columnist for the Canyon News and West Texas Register. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was the organist, St. Mary's Altar Society, Christian Mothers and Umbarger Senior Citizens. She was also an active participant in the annual German Sausage Festival. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas D. Raef in 2000; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssia Earl in 1979. Survivors include her husband of Amarillo; six daughters, Barbara Hartman and husband, Bernard, and Sylvia Raef Artho, all of Canyon, Helen Raef Lannier of San Diego, Calif., Suzy Hicks and husband, Marion, of Umbarger, Margaret Riggs of Amarillo and Mary Lyne and husband, John, of Corsicana; five sons, Louis Raef and Guy Raef, both of Amarillo, Michael Raef of Umbarger, Andy Raef and wife, Edith, of Crestview, Fla., and Dr. Kevin Raef and wife, Kathy, of Canyon; a brother, Richard Myers and wife, Cherie, of Newhall, Calif.; 40 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Garland Street Church of Christ with Karl King, minister of Baker Street Church of Christ in Abilene, officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Hoover was born March 7, 1935, in Marlow, Okla. He married Sherry Gober on June 26, 1955, in Stillwater, Okla. Melvin was a member of the Church of Christ. He graduated from Frederick, Okla., High School in 1953, and still remains friends with all of his classmates. He was recognized with numerous outstanding awards with the USDA on the national level as well as the state level. He worked for the USDA for 38 years. He also worked for Farm Service Agency as district director. He had lived in Plainview for 20 years, moving from Hereford. He had lived and served in many other towns in the Panhandle area. Melvin was an avid sports fan. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Evie Sharp Hoover of Kermit; a son, Steven Lee Hoover of Victoria; a daughter, Deborah Dellene Dunson of Abilene; three sisters, Betty Jean Brown of Tipton, Okla., Frances Geraldine Arnold of Kermit and Catherine Jan Weaver of Houston; two brothers, Billy Ray Hoover of Weatherford and Michael Thomas Hoover of Mesquite; and five grandchildren. Services were at 4 p.m. Friday in Putnam Funeral Home Chapel in Kingsland. Burial was in Bluffton Cemetery. Mrs. Norwood was born to H.A. "Pete" and Cornelia Irene Strickland Cogburn on March 11, 1942, in Weatherford. Mrs. Norwood was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She married Billy Gene Norwood on May 14, 1959, in Eastland. She was a member of Claude First Baptist Church and was very involved in her children's activities. The Norwoods retired to Buchanan Dam in 1999, so she could live in her beloved Texas Hill Country. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Sue Jean. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jon Norwood and wife, Janet, of Austin and David Norwood and wife, Holly, of Comanche; a daughter, Gaye Crump and husband, Ken, of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, Travis, Amber, Taylor, Hunter, Trent, Tanner, Darrek, Katie and Cali; and her mother of Abilene. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2003 New Mexico Jean Frances Cypher O'Neal FARMINGTON, N.M. - Jean Frances Cypher O'Neal, 82, died Monday, July 14, 2003. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tim Farrell officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. O'Neal was a highly successful businesswoman. She was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Butler, Pa., and moved with her family to Borger, Texas, in 1926. On Nov. 2, 1942, after completing high school and business college, she joined Dowell, the oil and gas division of Dow Chemical Co., USA, at Borger, becoming the first woman in the company to be hired at a field location. In 1956, she was transferred to Amarillo as regional office manager, becoming the first woman in the company in office management. She continued serving in various capacities in Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City, Houston, Midland, Texas, and Dallas. At the time of her retirement on April 30, 1983, she was the employee relations administrator, and the only woman with a 41-year employment record with the firm. Throughout her career, she was active in Desk and Derrick Club, serving as vice-president of the Borger Club and president of the Amarillo Club. Upon her retirement, she moved to Farmington, where she was active in Four Corners Federated Republican Women. She also was an avid bridge player and belonged to several card clubs. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Elizabeth O'Neal, her parents, two brothers and a sister. Survivors include a sister, Valda Cooper Lavender and husband, Harold, of Farmington and Albuquerque; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Hugh Cypher Jr. of Monahans and Mrs. Frances Yarter Corder of San Antonio, Texas; four nephews, Cy Cooper and wife, Manalynn, of Farmington, Earl Moffitt and wife, Mary Ann, of Golden, Colo., and Chris Cypher and Mark Cypher, both of Monahans; two nieces, Kay Cooper McKinney and husband, Jerry, of Albuquerque and Jill Cypher and husband, Ray Nichols, of Newark, Del.; and several great-nieces and nephews. "Ted" Mann CLAYTON, N.M. - T.L. "Ted" Mann, 67, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Boyd, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Mann was born April 30, 1936, in Clayton. At the time of his death, he was retired from the town of Clayton, where he had been the city's water superintendent. Survivors include two sons, Bryan Mann of San Mateo, Calif., and Kirk Mann of Clayton; a daughter, Terri Lynne Mann of Las Cruces; and his best friend of many years, Roxy Eudy. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park East Mausoleum with Dr. Chester Beavers officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Batani was a Baptist. She and her husband were active in Elks Lodge for many years. Survivors include her special friends, Bonnie Yule and Fran Rine. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2003 Thomas Wright Stanford Jr. Thomas Wright Stanford Jr., 82, of Amarillo died Monday, July 14, 2003. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Luke Presbyterian Church with Dr. J. Pat Kennedy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Stanford was born and raised in Amarillo, and was a 1939 graduate of Amarillo High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served in World War II. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1944 and was a member of the Strategic Air Command. He was a pilot in the Air Force for many years. He married Frankie Sellers in 1950 in Amarillo. Mr. Stanford retired from the Air Force in 1969 and went to work for Lockheed Aviation at Johnson Space Center. In the 1970s, he was project manager for the SR-71 spy plane. He retired from Lockheed Aviation in 1980 and moved to Canyon Lake. He returned to Amarillo in 1996. He was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Dixon of Montgomery and Lynne S. Stanford of Canyon Lake; a sister, Peggy Oliver of Salem, Ore.; four brothers, Jack Stanford of Amarillo, Frank Stanford of Del Norte, Colo., Ben Stanford of Long Beach, Miss., and Pat Stanford of Yoakum; two grandchildren, Dr. J.T. Currey, 28, of Canyon died Monday, July 14, 2003. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Greer, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Currey was born June 19, 1975. He graduated from Randall High School in 1993. He attended West Texas A&M University where he served on several university committees. He was a member of the Eta Delta chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity, serving as commander, lieutenant commander, candidate Marshall and currently served as fraternity adviser. While attending WTAMU, L.V. met his wife Susan, and they married on Dec. 4, 1999. L.V. found great happiness working alongside his parents in the family business as manager of Budget Rent-a-Car and Airport Valet Parking. He was a huge fan of "Trading Spaces"and together with wife Susan was always working on home improvement projects. L.V. also enjoyed photography, history and yard work. L.V.'s greatest joy was found in the blessings of his children, Audrey and Alex. He loved to play, read books, give baths, swim and share bowls of ice cream with them. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cris Allen Currey; two grandmothers, Virginia Currey and Margaret Marks; a grandfather, Edward Seger and an uncle, Melvin Seger. Survivors include his wife Susan; two children, Audrey Allen, 2, and Alex Stapleton, 3 months, both of Canyon; his parents, Les and Lois Currey of Canyon; a grandfather, Leo Currey of Newcastle, Wyo.; four sisters, Julie Kenison and husband, Dale, of Overland Park, Kan., Leslee Norris and husband, Bob, of Mesa, Ariz., Cindy High and husband, Ken, of Canyon and Lisa Wilson and husband, John, of Amarillo; a brother, Art Gustin and wife, Alpha, of Amarillo; eight nephews and three nieces, Allie, Joey and Taylor Gustin, Christine and Travis High, Christopher and Jessica Kenison, Dustin and Ty Norris and Luke and Sam Wilson.
