Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cartlidge was born Nov. 26, 1914, in Farmerville, La. She was a Dumas resident from 1943 to 1953, and again from the late 1960s until her death. She married Everette Cartlidge on Oct. 18, 1934, in Alto, La. During her time in Dumas, Bess worked at Woody Furniture, Rhoden Furniture and served as Sunday school department superintendent at First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was extremely outgoing and made friends easily. She was loyal and loving to family and friends alike. She was a strong person, physically, mentally and spiritually. The Lord has taken her home to live with him forever. She is now in a perfect place with no more sorrow or pain, and for that we rejoice. At the same time we grieve for family and friends she leaves behind. Her passing leaves a huge void in so many lives and we will all miss her terribly. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Don Cartlidge and wife, Sue, of Donna and Steve Cartlidge and wife, Linda, of Bedford; a sister, Edie Futch of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Howard Lockhart Sr. PAMPA - T. Howard Lockhart Sr., 90, died Saturday, July 19, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ in Amarillo, and Fred Anderson of Amarillo officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Lockhart was born April 22, 1913, in Higgins and was reared on family ranches near Higgins and Pampa. He attended Amarillo schools and was a 1932 graduate of Amarillo High School. He married Margaret Davis on June 26, 1932, in Clovis, N.M. He was the son of Panhandle pioneers, Charles Howard "Carl" Lockhart Sr. and Elizabeth Mariah "Lizzie" Kennison Lockhart. He was a longtime Gray County resident with ranching interests in Hemphill County and Beaver County, Okla. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Pampa Country Club and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 3, 2000; four brothers, Bob, Carl, Ben and Albert Lockhart; and a sister, Murl Kenyon. Survivors include two sons, Tom H. Lockhart of Pampa and Bill Lockhart and wife, Laura, of Dallas; a granddaughter, Logan Lockhart of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978. She was a member of Overton Park United Methodist Church and then St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo. She was an active member of United Methodist Women, and recently received special recognition for her mission work from the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. She was employed at Central Bank and Trust in Fort Worth for 16 years. She loved animals and loved to play games. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wilba Stanton "Sam" Kemp; and a son, William Stanton "Bill" Kemp. Mrs. Scott was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Gray County in a blizzard on the family ranch to Alice and Eben D. Warner Jr. She attended Pampa public schools, Ferry Hall Girls School and Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She received a degree from West Texas A&M in Canyon, where she worked in the Cornette Library. She was active in historical and archaeological research at Alibates Flint Quarry. She enjoyed hunting and was considered a good shot. She was preceded in death by her father in 2002. Survivors include four sons, Lee Scott and wife, Joan, Tol Scott and wife, Bernadette, and Theron Scott, all of Colorado, and Matt Scott and wife, Maenette, of California; her mother of Pampa; two brothers, Eben Warner of Odessa and Mark Warner of Pampa; five grandchildren, James, Julianna, Lindsey, Nick and Cyrena; and many special friends and cousins. Mrs. Beaty was born April 20, 1906, in Seguin, Texas. She married Edwin Beaty on June 4, 1927. Mr. Knox was born March 13, 1949, in Fort Worth to D.S. Knox Sr. and Nellie Bly "Nell" Slay Knox. He graduated from Burleson High School. He worked in real estate sales. He was preceded in death by his father in 2001. Survivors include a son, Joshua Knox of California; a stepdaughter, Aisha Brauer of California; his mother of Amarillo; and a sister, JoAnn Knox Moore and husband, Bill, of Burleson. Amarillo Globe-News, July 22, 2003 Conductor dies at 89 The Associated Press COLUMBUS, Ohio - George Hardesty, who founded and led the 28-member ensemble that evolved into the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, died Thursday at age 89. Hardesty was the first conductor of what was known as the Columbus Little Symphony when it was formed in 1951. Two years later, he became its concertmaster and assistant conductor. He remained in that post for 19 years, followed by 17 years as a principal and second violinist and five years as a part-time player. He retired from the orchestra in 1994. He also taught at Ohio State University for 39 years. Hardesty was born July 20, 1913, in Rowlesburg, W.Va. He started playing the violin at age 9 and graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees from Oberlin College. He taught music at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., and Shorter College in Rome, Ga., before moving to Ohio State.
