Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Moore and Sons Funeral Home in Arlington. Mrs. Strickland was a 1954 graduate of Shamrock High School. She was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Shamrock. Survivors include her husband, J.W.; a son, John Strickland of Mansfield; four daughters, Terri Eaves of Irving, Lisa Range of Godley, and Denise Byerley and Erin Strickland, both of Arlington; and 12 grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 23, 2003 Carolyn "Carrie" Horner SKELLYTOWN - Carolyn "Carrie" Horner, 85, died Monday, July 21, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Skellytown with the Rev. Fines Marchman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Horner was born March 4, 1918, in Hutchinson County. She married Clyde Joseph Horner on Nov. 21, 1936, in Sayre, Okla. She had been a resident of Skellytown, and a member of First Baptist Church of Skellytown since 1944. She served as director and teacher in the primary Sunday school department, and was the librarian and church clerk for many years. She was a homemaker and helped her husband work in the Horner Brothers Grocery Store. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 15, 1991; two brothers, Virgil Meadows and Luther Meadows; and a sister, Dollie Mae Meadows. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Nichols of Skellytown; a son, Jimmie Horner of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Ellen Richardson and Ramona Hutchens, both of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mrs. Tilley was born April 7, 1913, in Hoisington, Kan. She married Roy Tilley on July 31, 1975, in Dickens County. Survivors include her husband; a son, Rex Duerksen of Lubbock; two daughters, Dolores Duerksen of Amarillo and Elvira Duerksen of Lubbock; a brother, Paul Stensel of Wa Keeney, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 23, 2003 Amarillo Jane Tinker Jane Tinker, 72, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 20, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Jerry Coffman officiating. Mrs. Tinker was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Canyon, and lived in several western states including Arizona, California and Washington, before returning to Amarillo in 1980. She was president of Tinker Tools Inc., and an avid card player who enjoyed travel and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Tinker; a son, Robert Tinker; and her parents, Alec and Nell Love. Survivors include a son, David Tinker and wife, Deborah, of Houston; a granddaughter, C.J.; a great-granddaughter, Rosalee of Galveston; a brother, J. Boyce Love and wife, Rebecca; and the many friends whose lives she touched on a daily basis. Detten, 66, of Lake Tanglewood died Monday, July 21, 2003, in Taos, N.M. Memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Detten was born in 1937 in St. Francis. He graduated from Price College and attended Texas Tech. He married Eileen Gruber in Amarillo on Sept. 1, 1956. He worked in the dental business for 46 years and owned Central Dental Lab. He was a former Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 1450. He served as a member of the board of directors of Lake Tanglewood. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling and planning trips. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eulalia Detten and a brother, Robert Detten. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pamela Dillon and husband, Larry, of Farmington, N.M.; a son, Tim Detten and wife, Terry, of Coppell; a sister, Betty Crandall of Rollins, Mont.; three brothers, Tom Detten of Claude, Richard Detten of Ponca City, Okla., and Joe C. Amarillo Globe-News, July 23, 2003 Fred A. Reese Fred A. Reese, 76, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 20, 2003. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Reese was born in Corsicana, graduated from Lamesa High School and attended Texas A&M and Cornell University. A veteran, he served in the Navy during World War II. He married Charlotte Krebs in 1964 in Amarillo. He was the son of Mary Louise Thompson and Fred A. Reese Sr. He spent much of his career working in the food and beverage industry. He co-owned and managed the Dresden Inn in Amarillo with his mother. He also worked for Pan Am in Rio de Janeiro and Cape Canaveral, Fla., and for Quality Inn in Mobile, Ala., where he won the "Inn of the Year" award in his first year as general manager of the property. Mr. Reese went on to become a certified club manager and managed Skyline Country Club in Mobile, Amarillo Country Club and Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland, Ky. He was a member of Club Managers Association of America, which inducted him into its Honor Society. He was an avid golfer and gin player. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed bowling and was the Southwest Bowling Association Classic Singles Champion in 1964. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Thompson Reese. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patricia Reese and husband, Gilles Bouyer, of Deerfield, Ill.; two sons, Kirk Reese and wife, Sonja, of Chevy Chase, Md., and Michael Reese and partner, Jaime Hernandez, of New York City; and a granddaughter, Galina. Memorial services in celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. Kurt Oheim of Pinnacle Community Church officiating. Mr. Aulbach was born in Amarillo. He was in the Navy from 1975 to 1979 and served as a communications specialist aboard the USS Guam. After leaving the Navy, he attended West Texas A&M University where he obtained a BBA in computer science and an MBA degree. He then worked in the computer field and became a self-employed computer consultant. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Osage St. Mrs. Rice was born in Caneyville, Ky. She moved to Amarillo in 1963 from Sacramento, Calif. She worked for Campbell Candy Co. for several years, retiring in 1981. She married Edward L. Rice in 1949 at Louisville, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Roller and husband, Gary, and Alice Gilbert and husband, Tim, all of Amarillo; three sisters, Nell McClure of Scottsville, Ky., Robeye Anderson of Bowling Green, Ky., and Barbara Coffman of Elizabethtown, Ky.; four grandchildren, Brian Roller, Charlie Sharpe and Brandi Gilbert, all of Amarillo, and Kim Roller of Missoula, Mont.; and three great-grandchildren, Raissa Roller, Cody Roller and Kappie Sue Roller, all of Amarillo. David Langen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Home of Borger. Mrs. Baldree was born May 30, 1922, in Farmers Valley. She was married to her husband, W.L. "Dub" Baldree, for 64 years. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Karen Cullen of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Mike Baldree of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 23, 2003 Elsewhere Ruth Riley DEWEY, Ariz. - Ruth Riley, 85, died Saturday, July 19, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sandia Memory Gardens in Albuquerque, N.M. Arrangements are by Sunrise Funeral Home and Crematory of Prescott Valley. Mrs. Riley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and known to all her family and friends as "Boots" and "Granny." Ruth had just returned from an extended trip to see family in the Northwest part of the country. Her travels over her 85 years included Alaska, Hawaii and most of the United States as a member of Sam's Tumbleweeds Club. She enjoyed many great weekends with her friends when she was active in the Tumbleweeds travel club, traveling to all parts of the country. Her greatest pleasures were being with family, friends, cooking, playing dominoes and going for drives. She also really enjoyed going to birthday parties with family and friends. Ruth and her husband, Glen, shared 54 years together before his death. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Belen, N.M., and enjoyed attending the First Southern Baptist Church in Prescott Valley. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in New Mexico, served as a Girl Scout leader, a substitute teacher and orchard manager in Belen. She also served as an inspector in the State of New Mexico in the BLFE, and enjoyed being in the ladies auxiliary with them. Ruth attended Clarendon Junior College in Clarendon, Texas. She and her family were former residents of Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl Rhodes; a sister, Mattie Chamberlain; and two grandsons, James G. Burson and Terry Nelson Riley. Survivors include her children, Billy Jack Riley and wife, Sandi, John Riley and wife, Sheila, and Glenda Burson and husband, Jim; six sisters, Jewell Stewart, Irene Jones and Betty McElroy, all of Amarillo, Arlene McElroy of Clarendon, Dorothy Adamson of Dewey and Johnnie Adamson of Bakersfield, Calif.; her grandchildren, Treva and Don Griffin of Phoenix, Darryl and Linda Riley, Keith, Barbara and Dene Carlson, Kevin and Kathy Riley and Tricia Stinson; 16 great-grandchildren; her extended family, Allison and Travis Turner, Danette and Glen Peacock, Meredith and Mike Hansen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
