Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Panhandle with the Rev. Jim Perkins, pastor of Madison Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. McNeill was born March 25, 1942, in Corpus Christi. He graduated from Texas A&I University with a B.S. in animal husbandry. He was decorated for service as an officer in the Army in Vietnam, and had been co-owner and manager of Carson County Feedyards since 1973. Mr. McNeill was mayor of Panhandle for 18 years and was past president of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission, Panhandle Rotary Club and Panhandle Chamber of Commerce. He had provided leadership in many venues for Texas Cattle Feeders Association as president in 1994, and as chairman of several committees through the years. He also served the beef industry in 2000 as chairman of the Cattleman's Beef Promotion and Research Board which overseas the national beef checkoff. For several years he had served as director of National Cattleman's Beef Association. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Panhandle and served as chairman for the building committee to rebuild the church when it was destroyed by fire in 1997. Survivors include his wife, Anne; a son, Lane McNeill of Panhandle; three daughters, Megann Wood and husband, Linc, of Panhandle, Sarah Atchley of Los Angeles and Allison Atchley of Panhandle; and two grandsons, Clayton and Zachary Wood. Amarillo Globe-News, July 25, 2003 Lewis C. Gallimore PAMPA - Lewis C. Gallimore, 78, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Bill Tomlin, chaplain of Good Shepherd Hospice in Oklahoma City, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic rites by Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF & AM, and military rites by the Marine Corps. Mr. Gallimore was born March 16, 1925, and reared in and around Seymour, Baylor County. He left high school to join the Marine Corps in 1942. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1945. He joined the Texas National Guard in Pampa and retired as Sergeant Major with 20 years total service. He earned his GED while in the Guard. He worked for Electric Supply and Chase Electric, and in 1964, he went into the electrical contracting business with Wayne Brooks (B&G Electric), and sold out to his partner in 1970. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Third Marine Division Association and Good Sam Camping Club. He was a member of Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Lubbock and Shrine Clubs of Pampa and Amarillo. His hobbies included playing dominoes, cards and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee and Mary B. Gallimore; his first wife, Georgia Gallimore on June 21, 2003; a son, Dale Gallimore; a brother, Lee Gallimore; and a sister, Ruth Broadwater. Slaughter, 81, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 23, 2003. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Chester Beavers officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Slaughter married Faye Blue on May 5, 1942, in Frankston. He was a member of the Baptist church. He was in the Army during World War II. He retired from Golden Light Equipment, where he was a refrigeration mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife; and a son, Dennis Slaughter. The family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels. Amarillo Globe-News, July 25, 2003 Charles Haskell Pitts Charles Haskell Pitts, 74, of Amarillo died Monday, July 21, 2003. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jason Stone, minister of First Baptist Church of Dimmitt, officiating. Mr. Pitts was born to Ruby Key and Lemuel Pitts in Orangeville. He attended school in Randolph. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 14 and saw action in the South Pacific aboard a minesweeper in World War II. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1949 and was at the Frozen Chosen in Korea in 1950. He did three tours of Vietnam. Mr. Pitts retired from the Marine Corps after 25 years of service with the rank of gunnery sergeant, having received 26 medals and citations. He was proud to be a Marine and believed in the adage, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." He married Jean Burns in 1989 and was active in the family business, Tascosa Drive-In movie theater, where he was the ticket manager. He was known by many. Mr. Pitts also worked for Auto Parts and Miller Radiator and was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable amateur archaeologist, volunteering at Palo Duro National Park for several years. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the compassionate and caring people of Crown of Texas Hospice for their loving care of Charles and his family. She was a retired fine jewelry salesperson, having worked for J.C. Penney in Amarillo, Texas, for more than 16 years before moving to Arizona. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and very proud of her 42 years of sobriety and her membership in A.A. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet King of Rawlins, Wyo.
