Mr. Alewine was a World War II veteran, serving with the 5th Air Force. He worked as tax collector and bus driver for the Memphis school district for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; two sons, Bob Alewine of Humble, and Dwight Alewine of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda Neighbors of Temple; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holmes was a certified registered nurse anesthetist in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Washington. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1985. Survivors include two sons, Donald Holmes of Salt Lake City and Chris Holmes of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Greet de Zwijger and Netty van Rossum, both of Holland; and four grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2003 Waymon Arliss Holt HOWARDWICK - Waymon Arliss Holt, 74, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Temple. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with the Rev. Curtis Johnson, nephew of Mr. Holt, and Stephen Paulson of Temple officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Holt was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Electra and was a longtime resident of Amarillo before moving to Howardwick 14 years ago. He was a retired master plumber. He married Edith Irene Prather on June 15, 1961, at Farmington, N.M. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a former prisoner of war in Germany. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 17, 1995, and a brother, Lonnie Holt. Survivors include a daughter, Karla Durfee of Temple; five sons, Everett Eugene Willis, Marlin Willis, Ronald Willis and Lonnie Willis, all of Amarillo, and Victor Holt of Temple; three sisters, Vera Barnes and Ruth Kinney, both of Wheeler; and Glenda of New Mexico; two brothers, Coyce Holt of New Mexico, and Kenneth Holt of Fort Worth; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Vera was born in 1931 in Benavides. He lived in Spearman since 1959. He married Toni Ramirez on Nov. 24, 1951. She died in 1998. He married Guadalupe Munoz on June 19, 2000. Mr. Vera was a farmer and rancher and retired in 2001. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Claude Cone, executive director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico, and the Rev. Mrs. Watson was born July 8, 1922, in Industry, Kan., and had been a Pampa resident since 1946. She was a 1940 graduate of Denton High School, attended North Texas State University and graduated from Draughon's Business College in Dallas. She married Floyd F. Watson on June 22, 1946, in Denton. Mrs. Watson was a member of First Baptist Church since 1946 where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a member of the business and professional women's Sunday school class and was a member of the Sunshiners and the Sunshine Club of First Baptist Church. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener at her home. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Mae and Raymond Harold Loader, and by a brother, William James Loader. Cremation and arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. A memorial service will be conducted later. Mrs. Jerden was born Aug. 31, 1930, to Minnie and Henry W. Green in Amarillo. She was the sixth of 11 children. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948 and supported anything to do with the Sandies since. She married Ed Jerden on Jan. 21, 1950, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2003. Survivors include two sisters, Billie G. Corbell and Vivian G. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2003 William "Billy" John Ellis William "Billy" John Ellis, 50, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 24, 2003. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs and Sons Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Monsignor Raymond Crosier officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Mr. Ellis was born Oct. 17, 1952, in Canyon. For many years he lived at the Abilene and Lubbock state schools. In 2001 he moved to Amarillo where he was very active in the day program at the Amarillo State Center. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. He will be remembered by many as a very happy and cheerful person and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his brother Mathew Ellis in 1960 and his mother Elaine Ellis in 1981. Survivors include his father, William Ellis, also known as "Tex" and "Slim " Ellis, of Amarillo; two brothers, Wayne and David Ellis of Amarillo; three sisters, Darlene Ellis and Johnita Albritton, both of Amarillo, and Charlie Jo Urban of Fairfax, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2003 Thomas Benton Delashaw III Thomas Benton Delashaw III, 66, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Maj. Delashaw was born in Dallas and moved to Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1955 and attended Amarillo College. He graduated from Aviation Cadet School at Greenville Air Force Base, Miss., in 1957 as an officer and pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate of the U.S. Air Force fighter weapons school. He was a senior command pilot with 3,540 hours in numerous aircraft, with 305 of the hours in combat. He flew the F-104, F-4, F-100 and F-84. He flew operational missions during the Berlin crisis and the Cuban missile crisis and two combat tours in Vietnam. Maj. Delashaw also set altitude and airspeed records of 92,000 feet and 1,600 mph. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal. After his military career, Maj. Delashaw was a devoted aviator, flying the F-104 and other jet aircraft until his death. He was the oldest Mach 2 pilot in the world and was lovingly called "Grandpa Jet" by his grandson. Survivors include his wife, Dori of Conroe; a daughter, Anne Delashaw-Churchman of Amarillo; two sons, Thomas Benton "Ben" Delashaw IV of Amarillo and 1st Lt. Nelson P. Bennett of Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio; his mother, Evylin Delashaw of Amarillo; two sisters, Alma Lee Farr of Amarillo, and Carol Jean Laney of Dallas; and one grandson, Dillon Lawrence Churchman of Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Campbell was born in McLean. She moved to Amarillo from Borger in 1982. She was a licensed beautician and retired from High Plains Baptist Hospital in central supply. She was a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Family Support Services where she volunteered for years, working mainly in the Domestic Violence Center. She also volunteered in the non-food pantry at Tyler Street Resource Center. Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and worked with the coalition for the homeless, the Coalition for Women for Change and San Jacinto United Methodist Church, where she was in charge of United Methodist Women's closet for the needy. She also served as an ecumenical action chairwoman and as a representative of Church Women United. She married Gordon Campbell on Dec. 25, 1970, in Borger. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Beverly, and husband Don Grimm, and Birdena, and husband Larry Wilson, all of Amarillo; a cousin, Sue Bloedel of Wichita, Kan.; two granddaughters, Machael Sharp and Belinda Craig; two great-granddaughters, Kasey Sharp and Brandi Craig; two great-grandsons, Dakota Sharp and Dillan Craig; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lexie Sharp. Amarillo Globe-News, July 27, 2003 Colleen Lazenby Weeks HONOLULU - Colleen Lazenby Weeks, 71, died Thursday, July 10, 2003. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. (Hawaii time) today in Light of Hope Ministries in Honolulu. Mrs. Weeks was born in Amarillo. She lived much of her life in the western half of the United States, and returned when her mother, Maxine Lazenby, returned in the early 1970s. She spent her life as a saleswoman, home-health worker and certified nurses aide. She received honors and awards for the poetry she wrote and loved traveling and reading Christian books. In her last three years, because of poor health, she moved with her family to Hawaii, where she loved the birds, the flowers, the ocean and the architecture. Survivors include a son, Ronald Jones; a daughter, Marlene Jones-Skurtu; a granddaughter, Jasmine Skurtu; and three grandsons, Johanan, Jeremiah and Joshua Skurtu.
