Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Bentonville with the Rev. Phillip Smith and Tim Ward, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery by Callison-Lough Funeral Home. Mr. Bonds was born July 26, 1934, in Happy, Texas, to G.J. and Inez Simpson Bonds. On Dec. 10, 1953, he married Nadine Anderson in Bentonville. Mr. Bonds was a retired fireman at the rank of captain in Bartlesville, Okla. After retiring in 1978, they moved to Centerton, where he raised cattle. He was a member of Bartlesville Masonic Lodge No. 284 A.F. & A.M., the Oklahoma Firefighters' Association and Arkansas Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed oil painting, fishing and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Eugene Bonds, G.J. "Bus" Bonds Jr., and Jack Bonds. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Bonds and wife, Theresa, of Bentonville; a daughter, Alisa Berggren and husband, Daryl, of Bentonville; a brother, J.E. "Pete" Bonds of Bella Vista; a sister, Johnnie Shaffer of Bentonville; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Heather Berggren and Jennifer and Zachary Bonds, all of Bentonville. "Cheezy" Gray CHEROKEE - C.R. "Cheezy" Gray, 76, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cherokee Church of Christ with Doug Suggs officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery by Howell-Doran Funeral Home. Mr. Gray was born Aug. 7, 1926, in Llano, the son of Gordon Don Gray and Bonnie Eloyse McCloud Gray. He served in the Navy during World War II. On Jan. 15, 1947, Charles Raymond Gray and Geraldine Ruth Thompson were married in San Saba. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 42 years before retiring and moving to Cherokee, where he was a rancher. He was a member of the congregation at Cherokee Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Gray. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles D. Gray of Cherokee and James F. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wayside Community Church with Kyle Brock, Methodist minister of the church, and the Rev. Byron Williamson, Baptist minister of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Rogers was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Amarillo to Asa and Elsie Patterson Wilcox. She married C.D. Red Rogers in Amarillo in 1961. She was a longtime resident of Wayside. She was active in Wayside Home Demonstration Club, Wayside Community Church and a member of Ye Ole' Squares. Estelle was a bookkeeper, homemaker and was a loving mother and an exceedingly devoted grandmother. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jean Payton; a granddaughter, Kim Watson; and a grandson-in-law, Chad Smith. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2003 Gary Friemel GROOM - Gary Friemel, 46, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, in Alaska. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Groom. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. Pat Carathers of St. Hyacinth's in Amarillo as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Groom by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Friemel was raised near Hereford, and moved to Groom where he graduated high school in 1975. He married Julie Ledwig in Groom on Nov. 20, 1976. His passion was farming, which he did the majority of his life. He was the secretary for Top of Texas Gin Growers Board. He was also an active member of the community, serving on the school board for many years, the GEDC (Groom Economic Development Committee), and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2003 Elmer Ayres VEGA - Elmer Ayres, 97, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Vega Church of Christ with Dean Whaley Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Boxwell Brothers of Vega. Mr. Ayres was born in Connerville, Okla., (Indian Territory). He moved to Gruver in the 1920s, to a ranch southwest of Wildorado in 1949 and to Vega in 1963. Mr. Ayres was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married his wife, Ada, more than 60 years ago. He was a Christian and loved his Lord. Elmer was a retired cowman. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, farming and was an avid baseball/football player and fan. Mr. Ayres was a retired veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines with the Navy. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lee J. Ayres of Amarillo and Bob Ayres of Vega; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Henry was born in Elkhart. He was an engineer for the Internal Bureau of Mines at Excell Helium for 20 years. He served in the Navy during Vietnam and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Grant Henry; and a sister, Alpha Jean Karpinski. Mrs. Trammell was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Lazare. She married Wilmer Wilson Trammell in 1951 in Quanah. Mrs. McDonough was born March 26, 1927, to Vivan and Florence Munson in Kewanee, Ill. Dorothy was married to Jerome Charles McDonough on June 2, 1945, in San Antonio. Mrs. McDonough worked many years for Phillips Petroleum Co. and Amarillo Oil Co. as a draftsman. She owned an independent drafting business before retirement. She was very active in Desk and Derrick Club and Amarillo Antique Car Club. Mrs. McDonough volunteered for Make-A-Wish and Eveline Rivers. Mrs. McDonough also supported the Humane Society. Before moving to Amarillo, Mrs. McDonough enjoyed being an amateur pilot. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Jerome F. McDonough. Survivors include a grandson, Brian McDonough; a daughter-in-law, Raenell McDonough; her twin sister, Donna Kirkpatrick; two nieces; and a nephew. Mr. Bahr was born April 25, 1935, in Estherville, Iowa, to George and Lucille Bahr. Albert had been a resident of Amarillo since 1979. He also served his country in the Navy and Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; a daughter, Linda; and two sons, John and Patrick. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2003 Phylis Gewin Bunkley Phylis Gewin Bunkley, 87, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003. A family memorial service will be at the Bunkley Ranch in Union County, N.M., at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Bunkley was born in Demopolis, Ala., to Roulhac Gewin of Hale County, Ala., and Maude Monnier Gewin, descendant of the French Huguenot founders of Marengo County, Ala. Mrs. Bunkley moved with her family to Mobile, Ala., in 1934. She attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee and graduated from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans. She met Thomas Allen Bunkley of Stamford when he was at Tulane Medical School and they married in 1937. After Dr. Bunkley completed his medical training and served in the South Pacific in World War II, the couple moved to Stamford, where Dr. Bunkley began practicing medicine with his father, Dr. E.P. Bunkley. Mrs. Bunkley became active in First Presbyterian Church of Stamford. She also worked with her husband in his pursuits of gem-cutting and of making furniture of fine woods from antique patterns. Her other artistic endeavors included developing an interior design and quilt-making business called Mere-Fille with her daughter, Roulhac and collecting antique furniture and jewelry as well as decorative arts. Mrs. Bunkley served as the Jones County Republican Chairman. She was active with Dr. Bunkley in the operation of their ranches in Texas and New Mexico. Widowed in 1987, Mrs. Bunkley moved to Amarillo in 1999. Survivors include her daughter, Roulhac Toledano of Charlottesville, Va.; her son, Thomas Allen Bunkley Jr. and wife, Myra Anne, of Amarillo; a brother, Dr. Henry Gewin and wife, Hilda, of Mobile; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 6, 2003 Virgil "Fuzzy" Davis Virgil "Fuzzy" Davis, 88, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Jeff Conway of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Davis was born July 8, 1915, in Grants, Iowa. He was the youngest of two children born to James and Ariadne Davis. He came from a very musical family; his father was a bandmaster. He was raised in Lubbock. In the early 1930s he graduated from high school in Lubbock. When he was younger, he had a job opening a radio station every morning with his band. He worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railway for 42 years. In the late 1930s, he married Hazel Williamson and they were married until her death in 1976. In July 1978, he married Lucille Blattner. He really enjoyed music and played guitar in the Khiva Shrine Stage Band. He was very proud of his family. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis was also a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239 and Lubbock Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Lee Davis of Amarillo and Richard Blattner of Canon City, Colo.; three daughters, Nancy Biffle and Diane Clark, both of Amarillo, and Susie Osten of Broomfield Hills, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Deva McGregor; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
