Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Kinder, pastor, and the Rev. Billy Holland, pastor of First Christian Church of Quanah, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Heare was born June 30, 1928, in Waynoka, Okla., to James and Eva White. She married Melvin McCuistion on June 1, 1945, in Pampa. Together they farmed and ranched until his death in 1996. On March 21, 1998, she married Bernie Heare and they lived in both San Rafael, Calif., and Miami. She was a homemaker. She was a volunteer at several nursing homes. She was active in Eastern Star and Supper Club. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Miami and was a former member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Loren White. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Melinda Holland of Quanah; two sons, Jerry McCuistion of Austin and Jim McCuistion of Miami; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and three stepdaughters, Sara Zykanov, Mary Amadio and Nelda Braver. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Miami. The family will be at 120 Summit St. in Miami. Vickers on April 29, 1939, in Hollis, Okla. Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Dianne Rice of Los Alamos, N.M.; four sons, David Vickers of Plainview, Wayne Vickers of Tulia, Samuel Vickers of Shallowater and Jerry Vickers of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, R.E. Mr. Trolinder was born June 2, 1918, in Hooleyann. He married Jewel Preston on April 15, 1976, in Childress. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 Lucile Ivy Walkup Lockhart QUANAH - Lucile Ivy Walkup Lockhart, 94, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jesse Dea officiating. Burial will be in Goodlett Cemetery by Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Lockhart was born July 4, 1909, in Goodlett. She was a homemaker and loved flowers, sewing quilts and hand work. Survivors include a son, Bill Lockhart of Lubbock; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 Amarillo Marion Elizabeth Brenton Brown Marion Elizabeth Brenton Brown, 82, of Amarillo, formerly of Cranston, R.I., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Brown was born in Hopewell, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Somerville High School in Somerville, Mass. She then received her BA from Lowell State Teachers College in Massachusetts and worked towards her master's degree in education at the University of Rhode Island. She then taught the fifth grade. She married Dr. Thomas Gordon Brown in Somerville on May 11, 1946. After their marriage, they moved to Chicago where she was a choir director and organist for the Methodist Church. While living in Allentown, Pa., she volunteered as a musical and play director for children's programs. After moving to Cranston she was the president of the hospital auxiliary. She was proud to serve as a Republican delegate from Rhode Island in four consecutive Republican National Conventions beginning in 1976. She had a passion for music and was a pianist. In addition to bowling on the Cranston Bowling League, she was a member of the Whirl-A-Way Square Dance Club. Before the death of her husband they enjoyed international travel together. In her late 60s she took golf and tap dancing lessons and was chosen as Ms. Senior Sweetheart of Cranston. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a wonderful cook and an incredible mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; and a sister, Anne Sophia Brenton of Allentown, Pa. Survivors incude a daughter, Jean Brown Loveall and husband, Bud, of Amarillo; a son, G. David Brown and wife, Sally, of Dallas; and three grandchildren, Kenny Loveall, Meghan Brown and Nicholas Brown. Visitation will be prior to the graveside service from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 F.W. "Tex" Hastie F.W. "Tex" Hastie, 81, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Hastie was a proud veteran, serving in the Army during World War II. He married Sue Swengel on March 27, 1952. She passed away in December of last year. He retired after 34 years from Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Calif. He was a lifetime member and past exalted ruler for the Elks Lodge in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He was a secretary for many years for the Elks Lodge No. 923 in Amarillo. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brecht of California and Pat Swartz of Missouri; three sons, Curtis Hastie of California, Bob Hastie of Colorado and Skip Hastie of South Carolina; four sisters, Naomi Sherlock, Evelyn Macmahan, Wilma Johnson and Bernice Webb, all of Amarillo; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 Lois Lillian Flowers Lois Lillian Flowers, 69, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Isaiah "Ike" Garner, elder of the Lubbock East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Flowers was born Oct. 12, 1933, in College Station, to Ellen Brown. Mrs. Kennard married Mr. Bobbie Flowers in Amarillo in 1972. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo. Lillian was a homemaker and a loving mother, a very devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Lillian never started a day without first praying to Jehovah to ask his blessings for her and her loved ones. Mrs. Flowers will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends. Survivors include her husband; nine daughters, Maxine Mallory and Carol Beene, both of Arlington, Brenda Thomas of Gatesville, Ellen Thomas of Denver, and Cheryl Britton, Pamela Thomas, Maschell Flowers, Angela McIntosh and Stephanie Wells, all of Amarillo; seven sons, James Thomas of Lubbock, Charles Wilson, Michael Thomas, Anthony Flowers, Noneema Flowers and Glen Thomas, all of Amarillo, and David Thomas of Brownfield; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 Vernie "Missy" Weatherton Vernie "Missy" Weatherton, 51, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Roberts officiating. Entombment will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Weatherton died Monday after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 10, 1951, in Clarendon to the late J.C. Fields and Fern Jones. She attended public school in Clarendon. On Nov. 30, 1971, she married Larry Weatherton in Clarendon. She attended college in Kansas and moved to Amarillo shortly thereafter. She was employed by Northwest Texas Healthcare System for more than 25 years. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. We would like to thank all of the staff of Northwest Texas Healthcare System and Crown of Texas Hospice for their help and support. She was preceded in death by her father; her stepfather, David Jones; and a son, Aaron Kyle Weatherton. Mr. Freeman was a veteran of the Marines. He married Margaret Mae Snell on Sept. 28, 1952, west of Buffalo, Okla. Survivors include two sons, Steve Freeman of Alva and Dwight Freeman of Laverne; a daughter, Melody Jo Puffinbarger of Camargo; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 8, 2003 New Mexico Lucille Pettit Lester ARTESIA, N.M. - Lucille Pettit Lester, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God Church in Canyon, Texas, with the Rev. Hurlan Summers and the Rev. Charity Harris officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Lester was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Slidell, Texas, to Odie Pior and Mae Glance Pior. She married A.J. "Buddy" Pettit on May 30, 1934, in Pettit, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1979. On Aug. 18, 1982, she was married to Glen H. Lester in Plainview, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God for 55 years. She pioneered a church in Plains, Texas, pastored in Canyon for 28 years and later in Briscoe, Texas. She was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God in Artesia. Survivors include a son, Dwayne Pettit and wife, Jeannette, of Dallas; a daughter, Gaylene Burgess and husband, Robert, of Artesia; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Coburn and husband, Paul, of Pottsboro, Texas, and Beverly Cranston of Lewisville, Texas; three sisters, Katherine Adcock of Levelland, Texas, Monnie Franklin and husband, Frank, of Granbury, Texas, and Genevieve Vela and husband, Paul, of Bay City, Texas; a brother, Odem Pior and wife, Evelyn, of Puyallup, Wash.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.
