"Bill" Brookmole DUMAS - William J. "Bill" Brookmole, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Benjamin Seller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Brookmole was born June 30, 1920, in Azle. He retired as a supervisor from SPS in 1983.He was a Dumas resident since 1941. He served in the Navy. He married Margie Gunn on June 30, 1969, in Dumas. He was the Troop 40 Boy Scout Leader. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 1009 in Dumas, a member of VFW Post 9022 and an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Dumas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Henderson in 1968, and a grandson, William Lynn Brookmole in 1971. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dan Brookmole and wife, Karen, of Amarillo, Jerry Brookmole and wife, Paula, of Big Spring and Lester Sloan and wife, Susan, of Baytown; two daughters, Barbara Johnson and husband, Johnny, and Peggy Williams and husband, Jerry, all of Dumas; a brother, Lloyd Brookmole of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Crist was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Shamrock, Okla. She had been a Panhandle resident since 1936. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a worthy matron of Panhandle Eastern Star. She married Fred E. Crist in 1947 in Panhandle. She retired in 1970 as a beautician. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; a grandson, Rocky Lynn Algoe; two great-grandsons, Roger Glenn Algoe and Josiah Daniel Roberts; and a brother, Lee Burleson. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Wagner was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Ilion, N.Y., and married Elizabeth Hubrich on April 6, 1948. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1945 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, and was commissioned an ensign, starting a career of 22 years in the Navy. In July of 1974 until January of 1985 he became area manager of Amarillo Atomic Energy Commission, now the DOE. He served on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission from July 1974 until January 1975, then the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration from January 1975 until October 1977 and the U.S. Department of Energy from October 1977 until January 1985. In January 1985, he retired from the U.S. Civil Service as a member of the Senior Executive Service. Mr. Wagner was a devoted member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church, serving as clerk of the session and a member of the choir. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shirley A. Mrs. Henderson was born in Leon, Okla., on March 29, 1914. She married Eber Henderson in April 1936. They were married 41 years before his death in 1977. She was a nurse during the 1960s. Mrs. Henderson lived in Sanford, Phillips and Stinnett before moving to Amarillo in 1991. She was very involved with the Methodist Church, Iris Club and enjoyed dancing with the 45 & Uppers. She was preceded in death by her husband, and three children, Sandra Craig, Erwin Henderson and David Henderson. Survivors include three sisters, Alvaretta Schroeder, Delta Atterbury and Lena Parnell; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Henderson Hammock; four grandchildren, Starla Wilmarth, Cheryl Snyder, Steven Craig and Nathan Henderson; and nine great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Roberson was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Amarillo. He served his country with the 101st Airborne in World War II. He worked and raised his family in Kress. He then moved with his wife of 52 years to Amarillo, where he worked and lived during the last years of his life. Leroy served in the Navy during World War II. He married his wife of 52 years, Pearl (Merydith) Thompson on July 15, 1951. Leroy was president of Smith-Thompson Inc., an industrial and oil field supply company, in Amarillo. He was a member of Toastmasters where he served in many different positions. Leroy was president of Amarillo Jaycees. He was an active member in St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo and First United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrews Chapel in Sanford with Dr. R.C. Sproul and the Rev. Tim Bonarrigo officiating. Arrangements are by A Sunset Cremation Service. After a courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor, Robert H. Messer went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday at the age of 71. He was born in Ludington, Mich., on Oct. 21, 1931. He went to medical school and residency at the University of Michigan. He was a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served in the Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1972 having achieved the rank of captain. Bob should be remembered for his dedication to the medical education of hundreds of medical students and Ob/Gyn residents, his impact on the lives of his professional colleagues and his kind and compassionate care of his many patients. Upon his retirement in 1997, he was awarded the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Distinguished Faculty Service Award and was appointed professor emeritus in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During his 35-year career he served as chairman of the Ob/Gyn departments in the schools of medicine at the University of Nebraska, the University of New Mexico and Texas Tech University. He marrid his wife, Dianne, in 1990. They have been Florida residents since 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Messer and his first wife, Emily Baker Messer. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 22, 2003 Canyon Royal L. Brantley Royal L. Brantley, 80, of Canyon died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church of Canyon with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, the Rev. Terry Lowe, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Shamrock, Gerry Lewis, pastor of Eagle Mountain Baptist Church of Fort Worth, and the Rev. Kathleen Jones, lay minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Brantley was born Aug. 22, 1922, in Yorktown. He attended several small Texas public schools, graduating from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1940. Mr Brantley served as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, piloting B-24 bombers in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. Brantley completed a bachelor of music education degree in 1947 at Southwest Texas State University, and in 1949, he received the first master of music in vocal performance ever awarded by the University of Texas-Austin. As a graduate assistant, Mr. Brantley taught vocal music at UT for two years and was head of the Vocal Music Department and director of choirs at Tarleton State for four years. Mr. Brantley came to Canyon and West Texas State University in 1953, where he served as associate professor of vocal music and head of the vocal music department until 1984. He continued as a part-time instructor for four years teaching voice and music composition. Mr. Brantley, "Mr. B" to his students, introduced musical theater and opera to the High Plains through his directorship of the WTSU Opera Workshop. From 1953 to 1979, Mr. Brantley directed, composed, conducted, produced, and/or performed in 54 opera and musical theater productions at WT. His original opera "Samuel" was produced in the Branding Iron Theatre in 1978. During his tenure as director of opera workshop, the opera and musical theater productions drew sell-out crowds from all over the Panhandle and were a primary tool for recruiting music and theater students for WTSU. Mr. Brantley was the original music director for the musical drama "TEXAS" (1966-1979), adapting, arranging and adding to the score over the course of 18 years, and he followed original artistic director and fellow founder William A. Moore as the second artistic director of "TEXAS" (1980-1984). Mr. Brantley is also remembered as an accomplished performer for his professional portrayal of the King in the "King and I" (1959), Tony in "The Most Happy Fella" (1968), Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" (1972), and Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha" (1975). Mr. Brantley made his last appearence on the stage of the Branding Iron Theatre with a cameo role as Erronius in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" in 1990. During his career, Mr. Brantley's many accomplishments were recognized with honors and awards. These include The WTAMU Alumni Association Phoenix Award for Teaching Excellence in 1978, his induction into the WTAMU Branding Iron Theatre Hall of Fame in 1990, Professor Emeritus of Music - West Texas A&M University in 1987, and the nationally recognized Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Orpheus Award in 1999. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Abbey in 1997, and a son, Dr. John Stuart Brantley in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Rugel; two daughters, Susan Brantley Milligan of Cincinnati and Julie Brantley Petruccione and husband, Nicholas, of Canyon; a daughter-in-law, Sally N.
