Silva, pastor of Mission Bautista Calvario in Kress, and Glenn E. Godsey, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery. Mrs. Ontiveros was born April 21, 1926, in Laredo. She married C.H. Ontiveros on Aug. 24, 1942, in Sinton. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Teresaís Catholic Church in Friona with the Rev. Ed Sweeney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery in Friona by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Castro was a resident of Friona for 14 years, moving from Hobbs, N.M. She was a member of St. Teresaís Catholic church. Survivors include her husband, Jose; four sons, Jose Merced Castro of Ulysses, Kan., Zenaido Castro of Hobbs, Jose Isabel Castro of Hobbs and Nestor Castro of Midland; two daughters, Modesta Rivera of Midland and Maria D. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 4, 2003 Armando Velasquez WHEELER- Armando Velasquez, 63, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Maryís Catholic Church with the Rev. David Contreras officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Velasquez was born on the Asadon Ranch in Willacy County on June 4, 1940, to Felipe and Alicia Guerra Velasquez. He moved with his family to Wheeler in 1963. He began playing music at a very young age and was involved in the music industry for most of his life. He played music with his brothers ìThe Velasquez Brothersî later known as ìThe Motifsî in Wheeler and the surrounding areas for many years. After playing with ìThe Motifsî in Nevada for several years, he went on his own, playing music in top rooms in Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe. He played and opened shows for artists such as Freddy Fender, Grandpa Jones, The Hagar Twins, Hank Thompson, Merle Haggard, Wayne Newton, Willie Nelson and many others. He showcased his talents as far north as Canada and Alaska as well as over most of the northwestern United States. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a son, Capt. Armando Ray Kuppinger of Fort Eustis, Va.; a sister, Alice Mendoza of Rio Rancho, N.M.; six brothers, Willie Velasquez of Harlingen, Johnny Velasquez and Fred Velasquez, both of Wheeler, Felipe Velasquez and Albert Velasquez, both of Reno, Nev., and Jimmy Velasquez of Gardnerville, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Refuge Worship Center Church with Errol Hainer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Pfeiffer was born Jan. 5, 1941, in Amarillo to Herbert O. Pfeiffer and Blanche Clark Pfeiffer. He married Tracy Bunn on March 27, 1992, in Amarillo. Mr. Pfeiffer was the owner of Amarillo Roadrunner Windshields. He was a member of Refuge Worship Center Church. Carroll served his country in the Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; and his parents. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jill Guffey and Chelsea Pfeiffer, both of Amarillo; and three brothers, Bill Clayton of Oklahoma City, and Don Clayton and Bill Clayton, both of California. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 4, 2003 Robert Bruce Cleland Robert Bruce Cleland, 90, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of Christ at the Colonies with Dick Marcear, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Cleland was born in Coryell County on May 11, 1913. He moved to Canyon when he was 12 years old, and graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas State University. He earned a graduate degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He was an officer in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific, and continued to serve in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant commander. He worked as a lifetime public school teacher and was head of the history and government department at Amarillo High School when he retired. He married Elaine Loving Cleland in 1942, and was married for 60 years until her death in 2002. Survivors include a son, Robert Cleland of Trophy Club; and a grandson, Robbie Cleland of Trophy Club. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 4, 2003 B.J. Canada B.J. Canada, 54, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Canada was born in Childress and was a lifetime resident of Amarillo. He married Janice Armstrong in 1973 in Amarillo. He was in the roofing business in Amarillo since 1967. He was an avid auto racing fan and was involved with the Route 66 Motor Speedway. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Tish Goodman of Amarillo, Tanya Canada of Levelland and Tracy Floyd of Waco; a son, James Drennan of Bardweel; a brother, Gary Canada of Amarillo; four sisters, Reba Jones, Nora Cook, Louise Marshall and Debra Ashby, all of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Long was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Denton County. She grew up in the Quanah and Childress area. She married John A. Long at Canyon on Dec. 21, 1934. She worked for St. Anthonyís Hospital for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 30, 1984; two sons, Bill Long and Dan Long; and a daughter, Clarice Bryant. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Joe Long and Fred Long, both of Amarillo; three daughters, Christine Smart and Crystal Green, both of Amarillo, and Geraldine Clark of Pineville, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nephews and nieces; and other family members and friends. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Kinikin was born in Olney and had been a resident of Amarillo for 34 years. She owned and operated Kís Cleaners until retiring Jan. 2, 2001. Family was very important in her life as she enjoyed family gatherings with all eight of her kids together. She was very proud of her grandkids and great-grandkids. Holidays were especially her favorite time and she loved decorating for the holidays as well as making Christmas trees and collecting santas. She enjoyed working in the yard, making flowers, crocheting and playing the lottery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and B.F. Smith; three brothers, N.B. Smith, J.W. Smith and J.B. Smith; a sister, Bernice Giles; a grandson, Ricky Dale Kinikin; and the love of her life and best friend, Larry Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clarence M. Wooten. Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 10, 1952, in Borger, Texas, the daughter of James and Charlene Landess Baker. She was married on July 10, 1970, to Don Thompson. She was a member of Church of Christ in Munday before moving to Michigan last year. At his request, his body was donated to the Southwestern Medical School of Dallas. Mr. Hood was born Sept. 27, 1938, and lived in Amarillo most of his life. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 3, 2003; and two sisters, Florence Arndt and Sister Gertrude Grabber.
