Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Charles Jones, pastor of Second Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Suggs was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Electra to Mattie Belle Lloyd Suggs and James Thomas Suggs. A child of the depression years, Kirby was reared in the stateís orphanage at Corsicana. He served in the Navy before World War II. On Feb. 12, 1945, he married the former Iless Rose Hicks in Pampa, where he was employed as a sheet metal worker. The family moved to Amarillo where he continued employment as a sheet metal worker. Before taking a labor investigator position with the old Bureau of Labor Statistics on June 15, 1964 (now the Texas Department of Labor and Standards), with the endorsement of Texas Panhandle Building and Construction Trades Council, Kirby Suggs was, for 4 years, the business manager of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 432 of Amarillo. He was a charter member of Midwestern Texas Building and Construction Trades Council, chartered April 7, 1961, and was also a former secretary of the Texas Panhandle Building and Construction Trades Council and a vice-president of Southwest District Council of Sheet Metal Workers. He started the Sheet Metal Workers Joint Apprenticeship Program in Amarillo and served as vice-chairman of the committee. He had 56 years continuous good standing in Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 432. He served as a labor investigator in the Amarillo-Lubbock district offices of the Department of Labor for more than three years. From there he was promoted to office manager of the departmentís Houston office, before being promoted to regional manager of the Houston regional office, where he spent seven years. On Sept. 9, 1974, he was appointed to the assistant commissioner position by Commissioner Jackie St. Clair. He served in that position for 13 years with the Texas Department of Labor and Standards. Mr. Suggs was a member of First Baptist Church in Pampa. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 30, 1969. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Capwell and Patsy Micou, both of Amarillo; two brothers, Wayne Suggs of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lloyd Suggs of Conroe; two sisters, Velma Hicks of Amarillo and Joy Delcrouix of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 6, 2003 Joseph J. Horsley Joseph J. Horsley, 83, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Horsley was born in Cincinnati, March 25, 1920, the son of Walter Horsley and Theresa Ewers Horsley. After attending Purcell Catholic High School and St. Xavierís Commercial School in Cincinnati, he graduated from East High Night School in 1941. That year he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving five years during World War II at several U.S. bases and in Cairo, Egypt. He was commissioned a second lieutenant. On Jan. 28, 1945, he married Elizabeth Jane Taylor of Sikeston, Mo. After war service Mr. Horsley attended college at the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo., where he earned a bachelorís in civil engineering. Later, in 1966, he earned a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering at Wichita State University. In 1953 Mr. Horsley accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior, a commitment to which he was faithful for the rest of his life. He worked for the Missouri Highway Dept., the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Francis Engineering Co. in Saginaw, Mich., McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis, Mo., and the Boeing Co. in Wichita, Kan. Upon retirement in 1982, Mr. Horsley and his wife became volunteers with the Mission Service Corps of the Southern Baptist Convention, with which they helped build, renovate and maintain churches throughout the United States and in Bermuda and Israel. In 1996 the couple moved to Amarillo. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Horsley of Houston; three sons, David Taylor Horsley of Amarillo, and Warren Scott Horsley and Paul Joseph Horsley, both of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters-in-law, Michele Fortunato of Amarillo and Julie Shepler Horsley of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Nathan Paul Horsley and Sierra Marie Horsley, both of Kansas City, and Matthew Fortunato Horsley and Rachel Leah Horsley, both of Amarillo; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Miss Lamberger was born Oct. 13, 1917, to Lewis and Mary (Reilman) Lamberger. She was born in Dalhart, and in 1920 her family moved to Perico. Margaret graduated from Perico High School in 1935. Margaret taught school in Perico during World War II. She was a member of St. Anthonyís Catholic Church in Dalhart. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John C. Lamberger. Survivors include a brother, Robert Lamberger of Dalhart. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 6, 2003 Guy Weddel HEREFORD ó Guy Weddel, 85, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Central Church of Christ with Johnny Eastep officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Weddel was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Milburn, Okla., the son of George and Gussie Weddel. He married Thelma Altman on March 27, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. Mr. Weddel was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 gunner. He was very proud that he had flown 35 missions over enemy territory during the war. Mr. Weddel farmed in Deaf Smith County since 1964 and was a member of Central Church of Christ in Hereford. He was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jimmie Weddel of Henrietta; a daughter, Chasaidy Crawford of Hereford; three brothers, J.C. ìJayî Weddel of Tulia, E.L. Mrs. Gonzales was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Vernon, the daughter of Demetrio and Martina Cortez. She married Pedro ìPeteî Gonzales on Dec. 13, 1961, in Hereford. Mrs. Gonzales had been a secretary for Texas Workforce Commission in Hereford and was a member of Iglesia de Cristo Church in Hereford. She was preceded in death by her husband. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas, by Billings Funeral Home. Mr. Taylor was a retired Oklahoma Highway Patrolman. Survivors include his wife, Janice; his children, Blake DeArmond of Woodward, Robert Taylor of Oklahoma City, Sunday Fike of Woodward and Jeff Taylor of Durant; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his parents, Bobby G. and Hazel M.
