Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, Keith Bryant and Jeromy Ray officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Owen was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Steeds, N.C., to James H. and Maude Stewart Dunlap. She completed high school at Elise Acedemy in Robbins, N.C., in 1940, and graduated from City Memorial School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1945. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1950 and completed Anesthesia School at Letterman Army Hospital in 1952. She was discharged as a captain in 1956. She married R.W. "Bob" Owen on Feb. 19, 1956, in Berlin, Germany. They lived in Dumas, Mancos and Durango, Colo., before returing to Dumas in 1970. She worked in hospitals in Dumas, Amarillo, Plainview, Durango, and public health hospitals in New Mexico and Arizona. She became an AFLAC insurance agent in 1980, retiring in 2002. She also collected and sold antiques. She was a member of Friendship Sunday School class of First Baptist Church in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and seven sisters. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Luri Owen of Montgomery, Ala.; a special son, Jim Luter of Bayfield, Colo.; two sisters, Madge Priest of Carthage, N.C., and Helen Sherrill of Fayetteville, N.C.; four very special grandchildren, Heidi and Brandon Luter of Bayfield, Negin Ahmadi of Montgomery, Ala., and Lot Ariel Chen of Panama, Panama; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gilbreath was born Aug. 9, 1913, in Dimmitt. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Gunter was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a retired veteran service officer for Hutchinson County. Mrs. Murray was born April 5, 1924, in Texline. She married Lawrence "Joe" Murray on June 19, 1943, in Clayton, N.M. Couture, 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in Lubbock. Mass will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Silverton with Bishop John Yanta presiding. The Legion of Mary in Amarillo will say the rosary at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Laurence Cathedral in Amarillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. with Bishop John Yanta presiding. Burial will be in the priest's section of Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo, 4100 S. Georgia St. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 19, in St. Monica's Church in Barre, Vt. The Rev. Couture was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Northfield, Vt. His death was the result of injuries sustained in a car wreck in Floyd County on Sept. 4. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier, Vt. After high school and prior to becoming a priest, he owned and operated Douglas's Barber Shop in Montpelier for several years. He then entered Catholic Seminary to study for the priesthood and was ordained a Servant of the Paracletes on March 14, 1970, in Rome, at the Basilica of St. Paul. Throughout his 33 years as a priest the Rev. Couture served in several parishes and missions including Bolivia, Argentina, Barre, Montpelier, Alton, Ill., (as chaplain for the Catholic hospital), and Spearman, Dimmitt and Silverton, in the Catholic Diocese of Amarillo. The Rev. Couture was a member of the Lions Club of Dimmitt. He was instrumental in the leadership of the Legion of Mary, and the Catholic Pro-Life movement in the West Texas area. Subsequent to his ordination in Rome in 1970, the Rev. Couture continued his education with courses of study in church history, canon law and the ongoing study of foreign language. He was fluent in five different languages. His passion was the God he served and the people to whom he ministered. He was a strong advocate for the Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist. He continued to be active daily in the ministry up to the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bernadette (Fortier) Couture, formerly of Barre, and his siblings, Magella Couture, Gilles Couture, Jeannine Couture, Jacqueline (Couture) Provost and Diane Couture, all formerly of Barre. Survivors include two brothers, Raymond Couture and wife, Catherine, and Laurent Couture and wife, Claire, all of Montpelier; a sister, Suzanne Willette and husband, Joseph, of Graniteville, Vt.; a nephew, Tom Couture of Lubbock; and several other nieces and nephews who currently reside in Vermont. The body will be available for viewing from 4:30 p.m. Saturday through Mass Sunday. The family will receive visitors at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. O'Neil was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Wellington. He married Mary Davis on Sept. 10, 1974, in Clovis, N.M. Kinikin, 62, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lane Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Pierson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Sunray, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Kinikin was born May 1, 1941, in Ada, Okla. He was a Sunray resident for 31 years. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Wood was born in Chesterfield, England. She worked for Spirella during World War II in Lechworth, England, making parachutes for the Armed Services. She often found herself ducking cover as the "Doodlebugs" flew overhead. She met and married James Wood in 1946. The family immigrated to the United States in 1969. The State Center group homes and home care for the elderly were considered her most rewarding work. She retired in 1996. To the very end she never lost her sense of humor or her positive attitude. Survivors include her husband; two daughter, Jeanette Moore and Joyce Wood, both of Amarillo; two sons, Paul Wood of Celina and Peter Wood of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 12, 2003 Leonard Schmidt Leonard Schmidt, 65, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lamount Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Powell officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Schmidt was born in Kansas City, Mo. He moved to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in 1951, and was in the first graduating class of Boys Ranch High School in 1956. Mr. Schmidt was a veteran of the Marines. He married Glenna Scott in 1958 in Lockett. He was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance Co. for 30 years before his retirement in 1992. Mr. Schmidt was very active with Kids, Inc. as a coach for many years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carla Walling of Plainview; three sons, Steve Schmidt of Amarillo, and Len Schmidt and wife, Tammy, and Russell Schmidt and wife, Jamie, all of Canyon; two brothers, George Schmidt of Amarillo and Fred Schmidt of Houston; and 14 grandchildren. Mrs. Moreland was born in Garden City and was a graduate of Winters High School. She married Clifford Moreland in 1925 in Abilene. She moved to Canyon in 1982 from San Angelo and was a member of University Church of Christ. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, and a son, James Moreland in 1981.
