McVicker, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. McVicker was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Hollis, Okla. He was a Dumas reisdent for 25 years, moving from Howardwick. He was an electronic tech at Pantex. He was a member of First Baptist Church Laos Mission in Dumas. He married Lois Weightman on Dec. 7, 1935, in Hollis, Okla. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996; and a son, Buddy McVicker in 1972. Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Corbin of Dumas, Darla Keeney of Boerne and Dawn Gay of Amarillo; a son, Mike McVicker of Amarillo; a brother, Jack McVicker of Dumas; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second St. Dumas, TX 79029. The family will be at 513 Zauk St. in Dumas. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 16, 2003 Leah Gladys Getman DUMAS - Leah Gladys Getman, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Street Church of Christ with Art Lynch, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Getman was born April 4, 1910, between Amarillo and Canyon on Rockwell Road. She was a homemaker. Over the years, her family owned and operated two dairies in Amarillo. As a child, her family lived in the cabin which belonged to Colonel Charles Goodnight. It is now on display in the museum at Canyon. She enjoyed playing games with her family. She loved cooking, quilting and crocheting. She won numerous ribbons over the years at the county and state fairs for baking and canning. Another highlight of her life was a tour of Europe in 1980 with her daughter and two granddaughters. She studied her Bible daily. She was a Dumas resident since 1962. She was a member of 14th Street Church of Christ in Dumas. She married C.L. Getman on June 28, 1928, at her parents' house on Hollywood Road in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 14, 2002; a son, Frank Getman on Dec. 14, 2001; a daughter, Leah Dell Reynolds on Feb. 14, 2000; and a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Getman on Aug. 1, 1999. Survivors include five sons, Donald Getman and wife, Marie, Harlan Getman and wife, Corinne, and Clarence Getman and wife, Dorthie, all of Dumas, Earl Getman and wife, Bonnie, of Cactus and Raymond Getman and wife, Lou Jean, of Belen, N.M.; a son-in-law, Gene Reynolds of Brownwood; a daughter-in-law, Margie Getman of Albuquerque, N.M.; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild. Lopez, minister, officiating. Mr. Lopez was born Nov. 30, 1972, in Dimmitt. He was a truck driver. Mrs. Holliday was born in Dec. 9, 1943, in Richmond, Calif., and had been a longtime resident of Stinnett. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Richard Mannan of Stinnett; a daughter, Sheree Towry of Hixson, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Fairless of Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean conflict. He was a father and a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. Survivors include two sons, Garrett Leon Rasco of Amarillo and J.R. Hernandez of Oklahoma; his parents, Henry and Nancy Hernandez of Amarillo; two brothers, Henry Hernandez Jr. and Joe J. Hernandez, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Gloria A. Campbell and Monique Pantoja, both of Amarillo, and Ruby Selander of Denver; his grandparents, Gene and Mimi Montoya of Clovis, N.M.; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 912 S. Alabama St. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 16, 2003 Estelle Fariss Marsh Estelle Fariss Marsh, 90, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead and Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Marsh died at her home in Amarillo, 3010 Travis St. She moved to Amarillo after her marriage to Stanley Marsh Jr. in 1936. Mr. Marsh was an independent natural gas producer, active in the development of the Panhandle and Hugoton gas fields. The Marshes raised three sons in Amarillo, Stanley 3, Tom and Michael. Mr. Marsh died in 1967. Mrs. Marsh married Major General Thomas Watlington in 1969. He pre-deceased her in 1990. Estelle Fariss was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Oklahoma City. She grew up in Ardmore, Okla., and attended Sweetbrier College in Virginia and University of Oklahoma. Mrs. Marsh was known in Amarillo for her gardens, her lighted Christmas tree on Travis Street and her support for many philanthropic organizations, including Habitat for Humanity in the Rio Grande Valley, the Marsh Foundation Milk Fund and Opportunity Schools. She was also the sole financial backer of the fashion designer Halston. Survivors include three sons, Stanley 3, Tom and Michael; her daughters-in-law, Wendy, Charlene and Yvonne; her grandchildren, Stan, Kathrine, Elizabeth, William, Tim, Estee, Charles, C.C., Sarah, William, Fariss Jane, Nicole and Justin; and three great-great-grandchildren, C.C., Coley and Tom Kellogg. She had been a resident of Amarillo for 20 years. She worked for Owens-Corning. Mrs. Gainer was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and had lived in Amarillo since 1956. She was owner/president of Allied Parcel Service, and past president of Amarillo Police Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Gainer married William Roe Gainer Jr. on May 19, 1956, in Long Beach, Calif. She was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mike Lewis of Fort Worth, William Roe Gainer III of Wylie and Robert Gainer of Allen; a daughter, Valerie Patrick of Newman, Ga.; her mother, Mable Kinder of Orange, Calif.; two brothers, Harry L. Kinder of Mancos, Colo., and Virgil L. Kinder of Delta, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Mr. Hammons was born in Fort Cobb, Okla., on Dec. 6, 1926, to Cathryn and Columbus Hammons. He was reared in Pilot Point and graduated from Sanger High School. Following graduation, he served in the Army from 1945 until 1947, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Mr. Hammons worked for SBC for 34 years until his retirement in February 1982. He married Pearl Allgire on June 4, 1948, in Amarillo. They reared two sons, Larry and Steve in Stinnett. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, C.J. Hammons and W.H. Hammons. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Hammons and wife, Margaret, of Amarillo and Steve Hammons and wife, Angie, of Dumas; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Juanita Morris; a sister-in-law, Ila Burgon of Amarillo; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lou and Sue Unfried of Banson, Mo. "Buster" Owens, 91, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church original building with Paul Bates, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Owens was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Hedley. Several years later, he came to Amarillo from New Mexico with his mother, dad and sister by covered wagon where he spent most of his life. After attending Amarillo High School, he began working at Stefan's Ice Cream where he met his wife of 39 years, Ann Smith. She preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1975. After serving in the coast guard for four years, he came back to Amarillo to work at Borden's Ice Cream where he retired with more than 60 years of service. He spent his later years with wife, Ruby Broaddus. He was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 70 years. His hobbies included golf, fishing and hunting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Orel Duane Owens. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Betty Ann "San" Clay of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Maxine Ferrell of Austin and Bernice Williams of Amarillo; two sisters, Tula Northcutt and Corey Gilley, both of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Nancy Owens of Lubbock, Wendy Clay of Denver, Casey Owens of Springdale, Ark., Tad Clay of New York and Marcus Clay of Amarillo; a great-grandchild, Kristen Clay of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 16, 2003 Charles A. "Charlie" McDaniel Jr. Charles A. "Charlie" McDaniel Jr., 75, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. McDaniel was born near Waynoka, Okla., and graduated from Waynoka High School in 1945. He attended Oklahoma A&M University. He lived in Canadian for seven years, moving to Amarillo in 1954. He married Patricia Morris in 1949. Mr. McDaniel worked as a locomotive fireman/engineer for Santa Fe Railway Co. for almost 46 years, retiring in 1993. Concurrent with full-time service with Santa Fe, McDaniel also served as treasurer-manager of Santa Fe Operating Employees Federal Credit Union from 1956 to 1976. McDaniel also served as president and local chairman for Division 299, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and was elected general chairman of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers on Santa Fe, serving in that capacity until retirement in 1993. Mr. McDaniel married Pat Wallace in 1994, in Amarillo. He was a charter member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic bodies Amarillo Lodge No. 731 A.F.&A.M., Council No. 134 R&S.M. Chapter No. 196, R.A.M., Commandery No. 48, and Knights Templar, all of Amarillo, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in Guthrie, Okla. Mr. McDaniel was an avid coin collector and belonged to Amarillo Numismatic Association, American Contract Bridge League and Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Morris McDaniel, and a son, Sidney McDaniel. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve McDaniel of Amarillo and James Wallace of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Marilyn McDaniel Johnson, Pati Wallace Diggs and Chris Wallace Weems, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Jean Stanka of Houston and Nelle Briggs of Stillwater, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
