Mrs. Maddox was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Dallas. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Childress Riding Club and Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Charles Crouch of Childress and Ray Crouch of Johnson City; a daughter, Linda Carol Whitten of Odessa; a sister, Sylvia Moore of Vernon; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stephenson was born March 31, 1930, in Childress. She was a homemaker and a member of AARP. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, and had been a resident of Amarillo for 10 years. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Sanchez was a Christian woman, avid needleworker, always had her Bible with her, and was always singing around the house and at church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosario Herrera on Feb. 27, 2003; her husband, Joe Sanchez in 1982; her parents; and three infant grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sara Alvarez of Amarillo and Micaela S. Lee of Las Cruces, N.M.; a sister, Eulalia of California; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews in Arizona and California. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 Robert Clinton "Bob" Gleason Robert Clinton "Bob" Gleason, 74, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Monsignor Joseph Tash, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and Gene Shelburne, minister of Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Gleason was born March 5, 1929, in Amarillo and raised here. He attended Margaret Wills Elementary, Sam Houston Junior High and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948. He graduated from West Texas State University earning a BBA. Bob started his business career at the age of 8 with a newspaper route for the Amarillo Times. At the age of 13 he became "shop boy" at Sunset Golf Course, eventually becoming golf pro and manager of the nine- hole course. The course closed in 1967 to build Sunset Shopping Center, "300 acres of 50 stores under one roof," the first covered mall to be built between Dallas and Denver. Gleason was named resident manager during the construction and then became general manager of Sunset Center when it opened for business in September 1970. He left Sunset Center to become the employee relations representitive for Diamond Shamrock Oil and Gas Co. At his departure from Diamond Shamrock Corp. he was manager of employee relations and compensation. For the past 25 years, Bob had been the executive director of Panhandle Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. While the chapter has remained small, it became a fully integral part of the 100 chapter in the nation, winning several construction and safety awards. Mr. Gleason received the highest award given by the chapter, the SIR Award (Skill, Integrity and Responsibility) in 1996. Mr. Gleason was very active in the Amarillo Rotary West with 25 years perfect attendance. He was on the board of Amarillo Crime Stoppers for 21 years, and had also been a board member of Amarillo Girl Scout Council for several years. He was also District 44 Governor of Toastmasters International. Bob was a Christian and attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mr. Gleason was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Army Counter Intelligence Corps as a special agent in Japan. Bob and Cecilia would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 13 of this year. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine; his parents, Fred and Emma Gleason; a brother, the Rev. Chester E. Gleason; and a nephew, Steve Gleason. Survivors include his wife; a son, James Robert "Jim" Gleason, both of Amarillo; a brother, Fred H. Gleason and wife, Deena, of Amarillo; and a niece, Judy Kay Johnson of Tyler. The family will be at 4517 Princeton St. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 Don Willingham Don Willingham, 69, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in West Amarillo Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Waugh of Westview Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Willingham was born May 24, 1934, in Clarendon. He began school in Quail. His family farmed for several years near the community of McKnight. During World War II, his father auctioned off their farm. Just as the war was ending in 1945, the Willinghams moved to Amarillo, where Don attended Horace Mann and Amarillo High School. Mr. Willingham was a "boy preacher," delivering his first sermon when he was 11. After completing school at Harding University, he moved to Tucumcari, N.M., where he began an illustrious preaching career that took him to many congregations in several states. He was a featured speaker on lectureships at Church of Christ colleges across the nation. In the late 1980s, Don became a consultant for the Petro Truck Stop chain, training their managers nationwide. His work for Petro opened doors for him to conduct management training seminars for major companies coast to coast. Don became well known to many in the Amarillo area as "Dangerous Don" because of his radio and television commercials and his program "The Wit and Wisdom of Dangerous Don" on a network of 58 stations. But Don wanted most of all to be remembered as a preacher. On June 21, 1992, he married Ann Posey. Not long afterward, he accepted a call to the pulpit of North Plains Christian Church in Dumas. During his last years he served as minister to seniors at Westview Christian Church in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Terry Hickey of Hedley and Starla Ham of Channing; three sons, Don Willingham Jr. of Canyon, and Jon Willingham and Randy Dowell, both of Amarillo; his mother and father-in-law, Polly and Buster Posey; four granddaughters; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 Lucille D. Gilley Lucille D. Gilley, 92, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Ed Modrick of Washington Avenue Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Gilley was born in Wellington. She moved to Amarillo in 1929 from Wellington. She married Marion "Dave" Gilley in 1937 in Tulia. She worked as a secretary for Dalby Freight Co. until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990. Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, 600 N. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79107. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 Clarence "Clay" Edward Clayton Clarence "Clay" Edward Clayton, 62, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hill Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Clayton was a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, and unexpectedly passed away Monday. Clay was a free spirit whose life was spent in his two favorite states, Texas and California. He grew up in Amarillo, attended school in the Amarillo School District, graduating from Carver High School in 1959. Clay attended Amarillo Junior College from 1959 to 1960, studing music and art; however his quest for adventure drew him to California. On March 15, 1962, Clay answered the call to serve his country by joining the Navy. He served as a radioman, E4, on the USS Constellation and USS Reeves during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal before being honorably discharged on June 17, 1966. Clay's dynamic and charismatic personality led him to a career in sales for the next 17 years in various stores throughout California. Among other management and sales positions, he was the merchandise supervisor and assistant store manager for Vornado Inc.'s Two Guys Department Store and was district manager for Fabrics National, Inc. In 1979, Clay proudly opened his own carpet, vinyl and drapery store, T&K Interiors in Anaheim, Calif. Clay returned to Amarillo to be closer to his parents in 1983. For a short time he worked for his father, the Rev. Willie Clayton, at Clayton Auto Sales. Soon, however, his staunch patriotism led him to a career in civil service, where he worked for Veterans Affairs Hospital in Amarillo from 1985 until he retired in 2002. Clay was born July 3, 1941, in Slaton, to Commie Lee and Willie Richard Clayton. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; a sister, Dorothy Clayton Nickerson; and two brothers, Bruce Clayton and Richard Clayton. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Shangela James; two stepsons, Jeff and David; a brother, Doyle Clayton Sr. of Amarillo; two sisters, Bettye Tynes of Pomona, Calif., and Barabra Clayton of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 James M. "Jim" Barker James M. "Jim" Barker, 76, of Amarillo died Tuesday Sept. 16, 2003. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dozier Cemetery in Dozier with Rev. Dean Driver, pastor of First Baptist Church of Samnorwood, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Barker was born in Collingsworth County. He farmed and ranched near Dozier for many years. He was an Army and Navy veteran and served with the Navy during WWII. He was a former member of the Samnorwood Lions Club and the Texas Cattle Feeders Assoc. He was baptized at the Samnorwood Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Richard Barker and wife, Eva, of Amarillo; a sister, Lucille Self and husband, Kenneth, of Ennis; four grandchildren, Shawntel, Christine, Jason and Dean; a great-grandson, Tyrone; and 8 other great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 19, 2003 Patricia Condran Patricia Condran, 47, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with Greg Corona, pastor of Edmond Christian Church in Edmond, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Condran was born Aug. 24, 1956, in Amarillo. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1974. Her love of music enhanced the Amarillo Symphony, where she played the flute and piccolo. She was an accomplished guitarist. She married Steven Condran on Aug. 26, 1989. She worked for Ben E. Keith Foods for a total of 26 years. She began her career as an office clerk and from there she progressed rapidly to her current position of office manager/controller. During her eight years as controller, Tricia was recognized on numerous occasions for her managerial skills and received the company-wide "Controller of the Year" award. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Betty and Taylor Jones. Survivors include her husband; two children, Jana Godwin of Silverdale, Wash., and Matthew of Amarillo; and two sisters, Carol Autry of Amarillo and Melinda Ashcraft of Irving.
