Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Stratford with Dr. Genoa Goad, pastor of First Baptist Church of Howardwick, and Larry Evans, minister of Church of Christ in Stratford, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Melton was born March 19, 1933. She was a resident of Stratford of 20 years and a former resident of Amarillo and Howardwick. She married Kenneth Melton on March 24, 1955, in Turkey. She was owner/operator of Kwik Chex grocery in Amarillo for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Howardwick. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; and a son, Robert Lynn Baker in 1968. Survivors include two daughters, Laura Smith and husband, Miles, and Kennetha Seawright and husband, Kevin, all of Stratford; two brothers, Edward Page of Iowa Park and Bobby Page of Littlefield; three grandsons, Chandler, Robert and Jon; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brian Hesse, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Williams was born in Cromwell, Ind. She was a homemaker and a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Monroe; a daughter, Mary Berryman of Manvel; five sons, Bill Williams of Atlanta, Michael Williams of Denver, Steven Williams of Tulsa, Okla., Donald Williams of Lubbock and Timothy Williams of Lamesa; two sisters, Beth Werker of Albion, Ind., and Joy Stahly of Tipton, Ind.; a brother, Milt Moore of Columbia City, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Cummings, formerly of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in Yukon, Okla. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Glen Walton offiiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Cummings lived in Amarillo from 1963 to 2002, and moved to Yukon to be closer to her children. She was called home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday in Yukon. Muriel was a member of Amarillo Board of Realtors and enjoyed her real estate career for more than 30 years. She was involved in numerous community organizations including the Make America Beautiful Campaign, Christian Children¹s Home Fund Raising Campaign, Texans Against Child Abuse Foundation, Ladies VFW Auxiliary, and a member of North Amarillo Church of Christ, where she had taught Sunday school in earlier years. She will be dearly missed but always in our hearts. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paulett Cummings in 1958, and a sister, Cleta Milner in 1999. Mrs. Peace was born Nov. 14, 1928, in San Saba to William Theron and Venia Ethel Humberson Dorsey. She married Fred Peace on Jan. 5, 1946, in Brownwood. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 21, 2003 David Kevin Fite David Kevin Fite, 47, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Hays, Kan. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Bob Shepard, director of the Church of Christ Bible Chair in Canyon, officiating. Mr. Fite was born June 28, 1956, in Canyon and was a graduate of Canyon High School. He attended Texas A&M University and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University Pharmacy School. He was the president of his senior class in pharmacy school and was a member of the National Honor Society of the university. He practiced his profession in Oklahoma and in Amarillo. At the time of his death, he was a pharmacist at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hays. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gerry Small Fite. Survivors include two children, John Fite and Katie Fite, both of Sweetwater; his father and stepmother, Marvin and Earlene Fite of Amarillo; and two sisters, Carol Stout and Gail Bingham, both of Amarillo. Mrs. Williams was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a people person. Everyone who knew her, loved her. She loved having fun with friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 21, 2003 Joe Grimes Joe Grimes, 86, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Grimes was born and raised in Creek County, Okla., and graduated from Bristow High School in Bristow, Okla. He was also a 1941 graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He was a naval aviator in World War II and served two tours in the South Pacific. He married Nancy Slavin in 1949 in Kansas City, Mo. He moved to Amarillo in 1964 and had owned and operated Culligan of Amarillo ever since. He was still active with the company at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ava McMurray, Josephine Buntz and Lura Amelon. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maureen Geiger of Amarillo and Virginia Kinzer of Burke, Va.; four sons, Tom Grimes, Andy Grimes and Dicky Grimes, all of Amarillo, and Paul Grimes of Katy; a sister, Izetta Grimes of Cushing, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He attended Amarillo High School and worked at Miranda Painting and Contracting for two years. He was a loving son and brother and will be missed by all who knew him. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 21, 2003 Oklahoma Robert Lowell ³Squidge² Johnson TEXHOMA, Okla. Robert Lowell ³Squidge² Johnson, 88, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, in Guymon. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Texhoma Cemetery. Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church with David White, pastor, and Harold James officiating. Arrangements are by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born north of Texhoma on Aug. 4, 1915, to Hermit Harvey ³H.H. Sr.² and Edith Sweet Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Texhoma where he farmed and ranched for many years. Squidge and Dorothy Roots were married on Dec. 25, 1936. They were blessed with three children, Georgia, Patricia and Robert. Squidge accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1942. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Texhoma where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the building committee when the current structure was built. He served for many years as a member of the executive advisory committee at the Baptist Student Union at Panhandle State University and was fortunate to be a member when their present building was constructed. He will be remembered as a generous man with a quick wit which he often used. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather as well as a friend to many people in the area, including numerous students that attended Panhandle State. Pallbearers will be Adam Cline, Mike Cline, Ralph Hyde, David Moore, Caleb Cline, John Hursey, Gordon Moore, Jack Johnson, Jesse Johnson, David Johnson and Courtney Moore He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Patricia; a brother, Harold Johnson; and a sister, Maxine Hisey. Joaquin Martinez, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003. Memorial services were Saturday in St. Joseph¹s Catholic Church in Mosquero, N.M. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Martinez was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Mosquero to Frank and Barbarita Martinez. He resided in Mosquero until three months prior to his death when he moved to Clovis. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Montes of Encino, Julie Andrada of Tucumcari, Bonnie Cordova of Clovis and Cathy Scaggs of Greenup, Ky.; two sisters, Margaret Mata of Mosquero and Isabel Ortiz of Pueblo, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Ms. Lancaster was a lifetime resident of the Clovis and Portales areas. She was a third grade teacher in Floyd and Portales.
