Hess CLAUDE - Argie B. Hess, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janet Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Claude Chapel. Mrs. Hess was born in Claude to Walter and Florence Hogg in 1912 and had lived there all her life. She attended school in Lakeview and graduated from Claude High. She married Lee W. Hess in Tucumcari, N.M., in 1931. She was a housewife and partner in farming and ranching. She was a Cub Scout leader and supported all the activities of her children. She was a member of Claude United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a daughter, Joyce Lee Stavenhagen in 1962; and a granddaughter, Cheryl Lynn Stavenhagen in 1955. Survivors include four daughters, Corinne Davis and Amy C. Ferranti, both of Amarillo, Jean Reynolds of Haverhill, Mass., and Teresa Joyce Thomas of Levelland; a son, Michael L. Stavenhagen of Claude; a foster daughter, Shirley Hodges of Cypress; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Boxwell Brothers Claude Chapel. Mrs. McSpadden was born March 11, 1903, in Burneyville, Okla. She married Kent McSpadden on Sept. 4, 1921, in Hardeman County. Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Duncan of Pierre, S.D., and Nelwyn Beakley of Rule; a son, John McSpadden of Quanah; a sister, Ethel Payne of Fort Worth; a brother, J.D. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 25, 2003 Amarillo Dorothea Watson Ledbetter Dorothea Watson Ledbetter, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. James A. Hale officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Truman Ledbetter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Clarendon, officiating. Mrs. Ledbetter was born June 23, 1918, in Clarendon into a pioneer family. Her mother, Leslie Antrobus, was the first white female born in Donley County. Her father, Oscar C. Watson Sr., owned and operated Watson-Antrobus Hardware Store in Clarendon for more than 60 years. Dorothea was a graduate of Clarendon High School. She moved to Amarillo in 1961 and worked as an operator of PBX and mailroom supervisor at Amarillo College for 30 years, retiring in 1997. She loved her God, her family, her country and her friends; she was very dedicated and loyal to all of them. She trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and had a strong faith in God. She prayed for and supported missionaries and Bible ministries around the world. She was a devoted mom to her beloved son, Gary. Dorothea was very patrotic and concerned about her country's future. Her hobby was listening to big band and classical music. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Oscar C. Watson Jr. and George Watson. Survivors include a son, Gary Ledbetter of Amarillo; two nephews, Jack Watson of Dillon, Colo., and Rex Watson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a niece, Hope Galbraith of Joplin, Mo.; and a great-niece, Wendy Weiss of Woodbridge, Va. Mr. Boyd was born in Shreveport, La., and had spent most of his life in Amarillo. He retired as a dishwasher for Amarillo National Bank. Mrs. Whitlow was born Jan. 31, 1931, in Happy to Fred D. and Dorothy Townsend Magness. She graduated from Happy High School in 1949 and Draughns Business College. She married Dale D. Whitlow in Clovis, N.M., on March 31, 1950. They lived in Happy until 1983, then moved to Hereford where they lived for 10 years. They then moved to Amarillo in 1993. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Happy. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and Nana. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, and a sister, Ann Sims in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Janis Ramaekers and husband, Glenn, of Canyon; two sons, Jim Whitlow and wife, LaRae, of Happy and Bill Whitlow of Amarillo; a sister, Connie Hall of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School, Tascosa High School, Alameda High School, San Francisco Art Institute and Long Beach Community College. Chris was an accomplished painter, an avid reader of literature and a movie buff, who loved the arts, music and snow and water skiing. His family will remember him as an honest and loving person with a great sense of humor. He was known for his gentleness and sweetness, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Martha Houghton Garner and Dorothy King Morton. She was a piano student, attended modeling classes, played tennis and was a "Diamond Girl." She was in the top ten percent of her class and involved in the charismatic movement. She married Ralph Delgadillo in 1929 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Amarillo. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a devoted Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a daughter, Mary Delgadillo Flores.
