Cox, 71, of Canyon died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Brookside Memorial Park of Houston with the Rev. Jim Butler officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Cox was born on a farm in Magnet. He spent his youth in Wharton. In 1950, he graduated from Wharton High School after lettering in tennis, baseball and four years in basketball. He attended Wharton County Junior College on a basketball scholarship and was a member of the National Junior College Championship basketball team. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin where he earned both a bachelor of business administration and a doctor of jurisprudence degree. He married Diana Hester in Houston in 1956. After serving in the Army at Fort Chaffee, Ark., he took a position at West Texas State College, School of Business, in Canyon. He had been a practicing attorney in Canyon since 1960. He opened his first law office with George Dowlen. Subsequently, he became a partner with A.W. Lair and Dale Williams. His last years of practice were spent with Gene McGlasson after forming the firm of McGlasson and Cox. He served as Canyon city attorney, Randall County Judge and legal counsel for the Canyon Independent School District and the former First National Bank of Canyon. He was a member of the Amarillo Bar Association. His love of sports led him to coach Kiwanis girls softball and boys Little League baseball. He renewed his skills on the tennis court and won many area tennis tounaments in men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles. He was Kiwanis president and was honored as Kiwanian of the Year. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canyon, he served as deacon and elder. He most recently was on the board of directors of the Wells Fargo Bank in Canyon. The Canyon branch of the National Secretaries Association International selected him as Boss of the Year and West Texas A&M business students honored him as favorite professor. Elton is best remembered as a fun and steadfast man. He was a dedicated and loving friend, an honest and hardworking attorney and an accomplished athlete. He was a devoted husband and proud father and grandfather. His life is a testament of the American dream. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kelly Ferguson and husband, Scott, of Austin; and three grandchildren, Rachel, Walt and Claire Ferguson, all of Austin. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 29, 2003 Sofia Fuentez OLTON - Sofia Fuentez, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Raymundo Manqueris officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Fuentez was born April 27, 1915, in Bracketville. She married Patricio Fuentez Jr. in 1931, in Bracketville. Survivors include three sons, Patricio Fuentez Jr. and Raul Fuentez, both of Olton, and Cecil Fuentez of Lewisville; eight daughters, Mary Gonzalez of Heyburn, Idaho, Eva Sanez of Dimmitt, Alice Quallf of Amarillo, Sophia Martinez of Olton, Rita Rodriguez of Schurtz, Molly Garcia of Round Rock and Rebecca Olivas and Juana Fuentez, both of Oklahoma City; 75 grandchildren; 157 great-grandchildren; and 61 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Ron Kelly, pastor of Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Hooser was born April 6, 1939, in Dalhart to Delbert and Loretta Ellis Hooser. He enjoyed working on old cars and visiting friends and neighbors. Survivors include his wife, Loretta; his mother, Loretta Portlock of Dalhart; four sons, James L. Hooser of Granbury, John H. Hooser of Rotan, Harvey H. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel of Guymon with the Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Hollingsworth was a retired carpenter. He had lived in the Guymon/Hardesty area for the past 31 years. Survivors include his wife, Lorene; four sons, Randy Hollingshead of Hardesty, Keith Hollingshead of Guymon, Darrel Hollingshead of Fort Worth, Texas, and Loyd Hollingshead of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Olton with Dr. Leroy Patterson and the Rev. Kyle Streum officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors. Mrs. Patterson was born June 25, 1921, in Slaton to Barty Joe Bollinger and Myrtle Huckabay Bollinger. She married Ott Earl Patterson on Nov. 15, 1939, in Slaton. He preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Olton. She was a homemaker and a hard-working farmer's wife. She was a generous and loving friend, wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Ann Patterson, in 1960. Survivors include a son, Ottis Patterson and wife, Lelie, of Denton; a sister, Jody Kennedy of Lubbock; a stepbrother, George Bubose of Lubbock; and four grandchildren, Matt and Ann Patterson and Dana and Coley O'Brien. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 29, 2003 Amarillo Lois Patricia Coolidge Johnson Lois Patricia Coolidge Johnson, 88, of Amarillo died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Davlyn Duesterhaus, chaplain at BSA, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born March 17, 1915, in Central City, Neb. She married her childhood sweetheart, Elton L. Johnson, on May 5, 1937, in Chicago and they had two children, Elton L. Johnson Jr. of Tahlequah, Okla., and Sandra Waller of Amarillo. They raised their children in Norman, Okla., and Austin. She was a woman of many roles during her 88 years of life. She was a daughter to Ethel and Lee Coolidge, a sister to Jessica and a wife to Elton L. Johnson, all who have preceded her in death. She was the beloved mother to Elton Jr. and Sandra, and the honored mother-in-law to Mary Lou and Jack. She was MeMa to Lori, Keith, Terri, Darren and many of their friends. To Kyle, Tonya, Amy Leigh and Ryan and their friends, she was grandmother. The greatest name she answered to, however, was GiGi, short for great-grandmother, to her seven great-grandchildren. She was a woman of many roles. She was a skilled secretary and was a gifted vocalist. She was active in many community organizations as she was raising her children. Her main role was mother and homemaker. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1983. Lois faced many challenges in her life, including this journey, with great strength and courage, thanks to the grace of God. She has gone home and will be sorely missed by all. Survivors include her son, Elton L. Johnson Jr. and wife, Mary Lou; her daughter, Sandra Waller and husband, Jack; four grandchildren, Kyle Johnson and wife, Tanya, of Portland, Ore., Amy Leigh Johnson of Ypsilanti, Mich., Lori Lee Underwood and husband, Keith, of Evergreen, Colo., and Terri Gottschalk and husband, Darren, of Tucson, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Ryan, Ashton and Hayden, all of Evergreen, Colo., and Jordan, Makena and Sheldan, all of Tucson; and a nephew, Mike Hickey and wife, Carolyn, of Denver. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Jim Fox, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mr. Barclay was a mechanic and had served in the Army during World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Christina Saxelby of Simi Valley, Calif., and Julie Cortes of Amarillo; three sons, Ray Barclay and Bill Barclay, both of Amarillo, and David Barclay of Houston; two brothers, Sol Barclay of Lockney and Dalton Barclay of Kingman, Ariz.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
