"Doc" Risinger, DVM, 68 died Sept. 25, 2003 in Terrell. Services were Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Hudnall of Austin, former pastor and friend of 46 years, the Rev. B. F. Risinger of Corsicana, cousin of Doc, and the Rev. Ernie McCoulskey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at College Mound Cemetery by Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. Dr. Risinger was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Bryan where he attended public schools, graduated from Texas A&M University, and opened his first practice. He graduated from Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in 1959. He practiced three years in Bryan, 15 years in Kaufman and the last 26 years in Terrell. Since 1987, he and his son Casey have jointly practiced veterinary medicine at Risinger Veterinary Hospital in Terrell. He passed his success in life and business to his two sons by emphasizing to them "Just do the right thing." Dr. Risinger was owner and manager of Terrell Livestock Commission from 1982 until 1993. He served on the LSHSRA Board, serving one year as president, as well as the board of Texas High School Rodeo Association. He was appointed to the Texas Board of Health by Gov. Bill Clements and served three years, 12 years on Terrell ISD School Board, six of those as president, served as a trustee on the Trinity Valley Community College Board, currently as president, and a member of the Trinity Valley Community College Foundation formed to award scholarships to TVCC students. He served on the board of directors at Heritage Bank, and was currently vice president. One board member expressed his wish that all shareholders know how he worked to take care of their investment. Other business executives have expressed their appreciation and admiration for his Christian role model. He was selected as Kaufman County Outstanding Cattleman in 1993. He enjoyed buying and raising good livestock. When accepting his award, he expressed that the best stock he raised was his sons Charlie and Casey. His unwavering honesty was just one of the qualities that led to his colleagues choosing him as Texas Outstanding Food Animal Practitioner in 1997. He was selected honorary chapter farmer from several FFA chapters in Kaufman County. He actively promoted support for Terrell FFA & 4-H youth at the Kaufman County Junior Livestock annual sale. Dr. Risinger was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church for over 40 years, and also served as trustee. He has served several times as chairman of deacons, chaired and served on numerous committees. He greatly enjoyed cooking and serving breakfast at the monthly Men's Prayer Breakfast. His keen interest and love for George Truett Seminary at Baylor University and the strong Christian principles the seminary promotes prompted him to actively support the scholarship fund established from the Friends of First Baptist Church. Up to the time of his death, he was actively engaged in farming and ranching with his sons. He loved the land and the Lord. Dr. Risinger was preceded in death by his father, B. L. Risinger of Bryan and sister, Louise Martin. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marie; two sons, Charlie Risinger, MD and wife,Dena, Casey Risinger, DVM and wife ,Phyllis; eight grandchildren, Kelly , Rebekah, Cody, Rachel, Mitt, Marty, Casey Dean and Court; his mother, Maude Risinger; a sister, Virginia White; nieces and nephews, Mike Martin and wife, Melissa, George Martin and wife, Debbie, Scott White and wife, Marina, Pat Gibson and husband ,Bil,l and Molly Martin. Landis, 64, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Arrangements are by Leroy Rader Funeral Home. Mr. Landis was born Jan. 9, 1939, in Amarillo to Mr. and Mrs. Truman Landis. He married Julia Ann Hudgins on Jan. 1, 1960, in Longview. He graduated from LeTourneau University in 1962, and taught machine tool and management courses at the university. He was a past member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and was a manufacturing manager at Clad Tec Industries. He was an ordained Baptist deacon and a choir member at Mobberly Baptist Church. He also touched many lives in his daily Christian walk. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Don's wife and children would like to offer their thanks and many hugs to the caregivers, Staci, Toby and Barbara for their loving care. "God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and we saw you pass away, though we love you dearly, Dad, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, a gracious person laid to rest. God broke our heart to prove to us, He only takes the best. Love lives forever in our hearts and it will never fade away. So be at peace with the angels, Dad, we love you. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Truman Landis and Larry Landis. Amarillo Globe-News,Sept. 30, 2003 Camilla Louise Hurd Austin - Camilla Louise Hurd, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Austin. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Unity Church in South Austin. Mrs. Hurd was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Waynoka, Okla. She was the daughter of Ellen Vivian and Henry James Wheeler. She was raised in Amarillo and was married at the age of 18 to Sylvan Avondon Hurd. Lousie's life led her to many different places - St. Charles, La.; Chicago, Ill.; Houston, Seoul, Korea and finally, Waco where she lived until the last few months of her life. Louise made friends wherever she went. She was a loving mother and grandmother, deriving much pleasure preparing and enjoying family dinners and just being with her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, and made a chocolate pie that just won't quit. She was happiest in the company of her family, especially while playing cards and dominoes (42), and enjoyed a glass of wine in the evening. Louise had a special relationship with all who knew her and knew very well how to care and do for others. Louise's game was bridge. She played it often, taught it to many, and more often than not, won the game for the day. She spent countless hours reading, practicing, and playing. She loved this game. She was a member of Richfield Christian Church in Waco and was involved with the church community as much as her health would permit. Louise felt blessed by church members who visited often during the illness of her husband. Louise gave the best possible care at home to her husband, Sylvan, during his long battle with Parkinson's disease. Louise spent the last two months of her life at Hospice Austin Christopher House where the fabulous community of professionals and volunteers honored and loved her, joining her family in making her transition an experience that was as fulfilling and comfortable as possible. Louise will be missed very much by both family and friends - especially by her family. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan Avondon. Survivors include two sisters, Ellen Joy Rook and Mary Evelyn Melton; her children and grandchildren Sylvia Louise Crixell, husband, Mike and children Carly Dee and Mason Alexander Huffman; Timothy Jackson Hurd, wife, Elizabeth and children Daniel James, Stephen Joseph, and Sarah Elizabeth Hurd; and Vivian Lee Stidvent, husband, Tom, and children Christopher Thomas and Andrew Wesley Stidvent. "Pete" Burrow DALHART - M.R. "Pete" Burrow, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with Barry Walker, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Burrow was born July 14, 1926, in Griggs, Okla., to Snowden and Oeline Stone Burrow. He was a member of First Christian Church. Hughes, 90, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Westlawn Cemetery with Gary Bodine, minister of Johnson Park Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hughes was born March 2, 1913, and was a native of Stephenville. She was one of 14 children born to Sidney T. and Florence Houchin Walker. She attended country schools in Erath County and Jackson County, Okla. On Aug. 29, 1928, she married James Richard Hughes in Eldorado, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes lived in Olustee, Okla., Sudan, Lakeview, Amarillo and Panhandle prior to moving to the Borger area in 1943. They settled in Bunavista where they established a loving home and reared four children. While still a teenager, she became a Christian and was baptized in a "tank" near Willowvale Church of Christ in Jackson County, Okla. She and her husband were members of Second and Deahl Streets Church of Christ in Borger for several years and later were charter members of Bunavista Church of Christ and Johnson Park Church of Christ in Borger. While a member of Bunavista Church of Christ, she taught women's bible class for many years. She was a member of Johnson Park Church of Christ and the Arredondo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 23, 1987; a son, Forrest Dean Hughes on July 9, 1995; her parents; five brothers; and seven sisters. Survivors include a son, James Gerald Hughes of Amarillo; two daughters, Betty Head and husband, Bill, of Farmington, N.M., and Joy Jueschke and husband, Gerald, of Borger; two daughters-in-law, Betty Wilson Hughes and Barbara Neel Hughes, both of Amarillo; a brother, Gerald Dae Walker of Zapata; a sister-in-law, Edith Hughes Williams of Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Vicki Cassell and Richard Dean Hughes, both of Port Neches, Kathi Cordray of Warren, Debbie Carlton and Billy Wayne Head Jr., both of Farmington, Shermane Deschaines of Stinnett and Shevon Watson of Borger, Brennan Hughes and Taylor Hughes, both of Amarillo; three stepgrandchildren, Lindy Tooley and Deborah Criswell, both of Stinnett, and Bob Trammell of Sanford; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Mrs. Laminack was born March 23, 1920, in Collingsworth County to Millard and Mamie Clark Willingham. She was a homemaker and a founding member of East Amarillo Church of Christ. She married J.P. Moore on July 11, 1937. She married Truman Laminack on Oct. 21, 1988. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Dexter Moore; her first husband; a granddaughter Regina Kay Moore Scaggs; three brothers, Harold, Pete and M.N. Willingham; and a sister Oleta Ronek.
