Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday in Central Baptist Church in Borger with the Rev. John Denton and the Rev. Chris Riley officiating. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Buffalo Cemetery in Sweetwater, Okla., by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Bass was born April 1, 1916, in Beckham County, Okla. He worked for United Carbon Co. for seven years, Natural Gas Pipeline for 13 years and the city of Borger for 17 years. Survivors include five brothers, Durwood Bass of Olton, Harold Bass of Erick, Okla., Wayne Bass of Shamrock, Bert Bass of Borger and Dean Bass of Fritch; and a sister, Viola Potts of Lubbock. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 3, 2003 Marguerite Grace Waller Summers Pinkard PLAINVIEW - Marguerite Grace Waller Summers Pinkard, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, in Hale Center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Plainview Cemetery with Lanny Voss officiating. Arrangements are by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mrs. Pinkard was born July 15, 1911, in Plainview. She was a past member of College Heights and First Baptist Church of Plainview. Survivors include two sons, Henry Waller "Buster" Summers of Plainview and Don Carl Summers of Lubbock; a stepdaughter, Ann Perry of Lubbock; a stepson, Butch Pinkard of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Richard Herald "Dick" Waller of Palm Desert, Calif.; two sisters, May Jo Holloway and Carolyn Dixon, both of Midland; four grandchildren; three step-granddaughters; and two stepgrandsons. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 3, 2003 Freeman Barkley SPEARMAN - Freeman Barkley, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Barkley was born Albert Freeman Barkley Jr. to Gertrude and A.F. Barkley on Feb. 28, 1914, in Old Hansford. He married Ruby Mae Moss in 1937. She preceded him in death in 1970. He married Elva Lee Sheets in 1975. She preceded him in death in 1982. He was an active person in the community. He was a vice-president of First State Bank, a master mason of Masonic Lodge 1040 AF&AM, a member of First United Methodist Church and the Boy Scout program. He served as a city commissioner of Spearman for 14 years. He served his church faithfully throughout his life. He enjoyed ranching, woodworking and family and friends. He was Papaw to five grandchildren whom he called on a regular basis, and who revere him greatly. His great joy was his great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Renfro. Survivors include a son, Bill Barkley and wife, Tommie, of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Ellen Kirkland and husband, Malcolm, of Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Gertrude Archer of Amarillo and Reba Huffhines of Oklahoma City; his grandchildren, Heather Barkley of Sunnyvale, Calif., Brian and Clint Barkley, both of Amarillo, Jana and Danny Prochaska of Sulphur Springs and Paul and Jaime Kirkland, both of Tyler; and a great-grandson, Kaden Kirkland. Jay McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Lowry was born Jan. 9, 1938, in Perryton. He was a Moore County resident since 1960. He married Fannie Gantt on Dec. 12, 1958, in Sarasota, Fla. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He served in the Army. He was an operator at Diamond Shamrock for 42 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Jason Williams in August 1988. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeff Lowry and wife, Jan, of Dumas and Dwayne Lowry and wife, Brenda, of Plano; a daughter, Pam Williams and husband, Kevin, of Sunray; a brother, Tom Lowry and wife, Brenda, of Denton; a sister, Sue Deakin and husband, Jim, of Gruver; an honorary child and grandchildren; and six grandchildren. Services were at 4 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church in Deming with the Rev. David Okerberg officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Lowe, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Coffman was born March 11, 1926, in Shamrock to James H. and Virgil Porter Caperton. She enrolled in Christian College in 1943 and enjoyed hockey, swimming, dance, voice and field hockey, in addition to taking a full academic load. She married H.W. Coffman in 1944, and in their 59 years, she enjoyed five children; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Louise was very community oriented and was involved in local activities in Shamrock and Deming after they moved there in 1967. In Deming, Louise worked with the Deming newspapers and was also active with First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim H. Coffman, in 1979. Survivors include her husband of Deming; a son, John Coffman of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Janet Walser of Lubbock, Sally Ferrell of Amarillo and Julia McCain of Houston; a sister, Janet Laycock of Canyon; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was a longtime resident of the area. She married R.A. "Jack" Atchison in 1927 in Altus, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, and a son, D.L. Atchison. Mrs. Miller was born in Hollis, Okla., and lived in Amarillo most of her life. She graduated from Caprock High School and was a nurse at SCCI. She was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her father, D.D. Miller; a brother, Jerry W. Miller; and a son, Brian Jacks. He worked for the American Quarter Horse Association as a building engineer from 1974 until his retirement in 1996. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Jodie Bryan of Amarillo; two sons, David Gideon of Vega and Jeff Gideon of Burleson; two sisters, Dot Carter of Waco and Non Leard of Amarillo; and nine grandchildren.
