Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Guymon High School Auditorium with Rev. David Harker of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. McKinnon was born July 29, 1923, in Hardeman County, Texas. He attended Chillicothe schools and graduated from Iowa Park High School. As a World War II veteran, Carl served in the Air Force, flying the B-24, "Tall, Torrid and Texas," in the European Theater. He married Jenny Lou Long on Sept. 26, 1944, in Mountain Home, Idaho. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene in 1947, and they established their home in Guymon in 1948. Mr. McKinnon was a partner in Long and McKinnon Insurance and was actively involved in many church, school and community activities. He was a member of First Christian Church, serving as an elder and church board member. An avid sports fan and generous supporter of area sporting events, Carl was the voice of the Tigers for 52 years, announcing at Guymon High School Tiger football games. He was a fan of all sporting events, from Kids, Inc. to Guymon varsity and Panhandle State University activities. In 1999, the Guymon football field was dedicated and named the Carl and Lou McKinnon Football Field. He was an avid golfer. He served on the Sunset Hills golf board and shared many rounds of golf with friends and family. He was a member of Guymon Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge No. 335, AF&AM and American Legion. Mr. McKinnon served on the First National Bank board and P.T.S.I. board for many years. Carl was inducted into the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Hall of Fame in 1984 and was honored as 2001 F. Hiner Dale Guymon Citizen of the Year. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane McKinnon; his father, Carl Lee McKinnon Sr.; and stepmother, Joy McKinnon. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger McKinnon and wife, Janell, and Warner McKinnon and wife, Vickie, all of Guymon, and Doug McKinnon and wife, Deborah, of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Tom McKinnon of Bailey, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, David Long and wife, Mary, and Norman Wilmeth, all of Guymon; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; six nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Jacobson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Torrey was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Bartlesville. He married Mary M. "Susie" Love on Dec. 6, 1943, in Bartlesville. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Don Torrey Jr. of Topeka, Kan., Dr. David Torrey of Garden City, Kan., and James Torrey of Tulsa; a sister, Nadine Morgan of Ponca City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 4, 2003 Freeman Barkley SPEARMAN - Freeman Barkley, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Barkley was born Albert Freeman Barkley Jr. to Gertrude and A.F. Barkley on Feb. 28, 1914, in Old Hansford. He married Ruby Mae Moss in 1937. She preceded him in death in 1970. He married Elva Lee Sheets in 1975. She preceded him in death in 1982. He was an active person in the community. He was a vice-president of First State Bank, a master mason of Masonic Lodge 1040 AF&AM, a member of First United Methodist Church and the Boy Scout program. He served as a city commissioner of Spearman for 14 years. He served his church faithfully throughout his life. He enjoyed ranching, woodworking and family and friends. He was Papaw to five grandchildren whom he called on a regular basis, and who revere him greatly. His great joy was his great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Renfro. Survivors include a son, Bill Barkley and wife, Tommie, of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Ellen Kirkland and husband, Malcolm, of Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Gertrude Archer of Amarillo and Reba Huffhines of Oklahoma City; his grandchildren, Heather Barkley of Sunnyvale, Calif., Brian and Clint Barkley, both of Amarillo, Jana and Danny Prochaska of Sulphur Springs and Paul and Jaime Kirkland, both of Tyler; and a great-grandson, Kaden Kirkland. She married Pat Hanlon on Jan. 14, 1960, in Norwalk, Calif. Survivors include three grandchildren; and a special friend, Joann Noyes of Hereford. Mrs. Garner was a member of First Christian Church. She was owner/operator of The People's Motel in Paris. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Cora Alice Huitt Bural; her husband, Floyd Garner; three sisters; and two brothers. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in San Antonio Catholic Church in Logan. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the church with the Rev. Leo Padget officiating. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Sandoval was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Mosquero. She was a member of San Antonio Catholic Church in Tucumcari. Survivors include seven daughters, Corina Vaszuez, Penny Roybal, Jean Brewer and Dorothy Hobson, all of Guymon, Okla., Stella Tramel of Fort Townson, Okla., and Dee Sandoval and Sofie Sandoval, both of Logan; two sons, Raymond Sandoval and Leroy Sandoval, both of Guymon; a sister, Mary Sandoval of Guymon; a brother, Steve Sandoval of Tucumcari; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 4, 2003 Canyon Ethel Carver Welch Ethel Carver Welch, 98, of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Canyon, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon with Jay Carver, chaplain of the VA Hospital in Dallas, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Welch was born July 16, 1905, in Cooke County, to Joseph and Sarah Bowman Carver. She attended WTSU and married Ray Hubert Welch on Oct. 23, 1929. They moved back to Canyon in 1948 and then she moved to Lubbock in 1992. She currently resided in Springdale. She was a member of University Church of Christ in Canyon. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, and five brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Young of Springdale; three grandchildren, Jerry Young, Randy Young and Lynda Sloneker; and seven great-grandchildren.
