Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Scott Greer, senior minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. PornPot was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He was captain of Puckett Elementary fifth grade Kids, Inc. football team. He will be greatly missed by his parents, grandparents, school classmates, football team and a multitude of friends. Survivors include his parents, Beo and Qui Kanogvaleevong of Amarillo; his grandparents; three aunts, Pat Pavitretorn of Amarillo, Sue Feppes of Irvine, Calif., and Amorat Brandon of Sydney, Australia; and an uncle, Lan Tancharoensuksavi of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Calvin C. Smith Calvin C. Smith, 61, of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Smith was born in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School. He won the Panhandle Science Fair in 1959 and was awarded a trip to New York. He married Barcine Lester on Aug. 3, 1963. Mr. Smith worked for Sandia Labs from 1964 to 1974 in nuclear research, where he was instrumental in receiving a patent for the failsafe locking device for the Titan missile. He moved back to Amarillo to open Omega Electronics. This year would be the 30th year in business. Mr. Smith had been a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church since its conception. Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Smith and wife, Rita, of Carrollton; a daughter, Cherie Barnes and husband, Terry, of Austin; his father, Emmett Smith of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Timothy and Matthew. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Paul Bates Paul Bates, 51, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Fellowship Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Bates was born to Janet and Milton Bates near Pittsburgh. He grew up in Marion, Ind., with siblings, Louise, Janet, Nancy and James. He married Cathy Jacob in Amarillo in 1972 and cherished her for 31 years. They were houseparents at Christian Children's Home in Erie, Ill. Paul received his bachelor of arts degree in sacred literature at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo. He later earned two master's degrees and a doctorate from CLST. Paul worked at Trinity Fellowship Church, where he served as a pastor. His life's ministry included administration at Bethesda Outreach Center, family counseling, coordination of life groups, usher/sentinel service, and Golden Spread Emmaus Community. Paul was a friend of God and an investor in the lives of men. In the words of Psalm 25:14, Paul was entrusted with the secrets of the Lord. He worshipped in spirit and in truth. He was the prophet, priest and king of his home. With passion, he walked out the details of his life with integrity. He lived 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Paul loved us the way Jesus loves the church, served us with graciousness and humility, and discipled us with wisdom from the Holy Spirit. He did all of these things with excellence. His handshake was cowboy firm. His smile was always sincere. We have lost the prophet, priest and king of our home; a man who could shed a tear with the compassion of Jesus. He is our hero and we are richer for having known him. His wife; daughters, Jennifer and Emily; son-in-law, Ollie; and many others who were dear to him, were with Paul when he died in Colorado Springs. Survivors include his wife; parents; siblings; children; and numerous beloved friends and family. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Trinity Fellowship Church chapel with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Winters attended Trinity Fellowship Church. Claudia will be remembered as a wonderful, loving grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Raymond Elmer Winters. Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Fay Robinson and husband, Larry, Nina Darlene Winters and Iris Raylene Ardhuerumly and husband, Staton, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Nici Nicole Robinson Smith, Kily West Robinson, Jeremiah Elijah Bresnahan and John DeWayne Houle; a brother, Robert Lee Turner of Amarillo; a sister, Tomasena Jennings of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Joy Frances Singleton Joy Frances Singleton, 66, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with John Phillips, former Amarillo pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Mrs. Singleton left her earthly home to be with her Lord in heaven on Saturday. She was born May 12, 1937, in Muskogee, Okla., to Claude and Eugie Belle Palmer Singleton. She attended school in Muskogee, graduating from Muskogee High School in May 1955. She then graduated in May 1958 from Oklahoma Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced her profession in Muskogee; West Memphis, Ark.; and Amarillo. Joy helped open and supervise the first critical care unit at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, and Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. Joy was a member of Body of Christ at Amarillo South Church. Joy had no children but counted all her nieces and nephews as her children. Special nieces who helped her in her declining years were Tracey Spear and Casey Singleton of Amarillo. She also had a special brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Susan Singleton of Amarillo, who cared for her through many illnesses. She also had a special nephew, Jamey Newman of Amarillo, who was always there for her doing odd jobs and fixing her computer. Survivors include three brothers, Paul Singleton of Amarillo, David Singleton of Lebanon, Tenn., and Robert Singleton of Muskogee; five sisters, Rosemary Dunn, Marguerite Fuller, June Best and Sue Hinkle, all of Muskogee, and Leona Gorman of Kansas, Okla.; and more than 75 nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey Chapel with the Rev. Howard Rhodes of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Hobart Rose Cemetery in Hobart, Okla. Mr. Rickerd was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Cold Springs, Okla. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1952. Survivors include a daughter, D.D. Saunders of Dallas; three sons, Ricky Don Rickerd of Hobart, Robert Russell "Rusty" Rickerd of Mangum, Okla., and Woody Charles Rickerd of Nazareth; three sisters, Shirley Munsel of Long Beach, Calif., Margie Rickerd of Big Spring and Ethelyn Ragsdale of Roosevelt, Okla.; two brothers, DeRoy Rickerd of Blackwell, Okla., and Wayne Rickerd of Roosevelt; and six grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Dr. Tadeusz "Teddy" Darocha CANADIAN - Dr. Tadeusz "Teddy" Darocha, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery with Buddy Reed, minister of Jehovah's Witnesses of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Darocha was born in Sokolow, MLP, Poland on Aug. 12, 1923, to Rudolph and Bronislowa Wos Darocha. Dr. Darocha received his MD in 1953 and his PhD from University of Warsaw, Poland, in 1963. He married Halina Bartnciki on Aug. 21, 1965, in Warsaw. He received a research fellowship at the department of chemical pathology at King's College Hospital in London. While in England he defected and went to Rhodesia, where he served from 1966-1970 in the chief medical office of the Country of Rhodesia. He then traveled to Capetown, Africa, where he was on staff at a hospital with Dr. Christian Bernard. He was licensed to practice medicine in Texas in 1977 and in 1978 began private practice in Canadian. He was on staff at Hemphill County Hospital and Edward Abraham Memorial Home. Dr. Darocha maintained an active practice until the day of his death. Survivors include his wife. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Alvino Lopez FARWELL - Alvino Lopez, 63, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in Friona. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mass will be at noon today in the church with the Rev. Sotero Sena officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Lopez married Maria Duran on Jan. 8, 1962, in El Paso. He worked as a maintenance man for PRMC, retiring in 1985. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Alvino Lopez Jr. of Fort Bragg, N.C., Jacob Lopez of San Antonio and Abel Lopez of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two daughters, Irene Lopez of Littlefield and Jeannie Brigham of Farwell; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Hillcrest Cemetery with Thacker Haynes of McLean United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Bailey-Ware Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson was born in McLean to Taylor and Mattie Hamilton Wilson. She married Truitt Johnson on May 21, 1938, in Gallup, N.M. Survivors include a son, Mike Johnson of Wichita Falls; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to any organization that assists the blind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Theresa Catholic Church with the Rev. John Hickey officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Young was born May 13, 1923, in Burkburnett. She was a file clerk for Catholic Children's Home. There are no known survivors. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 14, 2003 Leila Louise McCulley Prater BORGER - Leila Louise McCulley Prater, 93, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew United Methodist Church with the Rev. Weldon Reeves, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Prater was born Nov. 13, 1909, in Blanket, to John and Florence McCulley. She married Virgil Bryan Prater on Jan. 24, 1931, in Frederick, Okla. She graduated from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood. She moved to East St. Louis, Ill., in 1931 and to Borger on May 15, 1943. She taught in the Borger Independent School District for 30 years. She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, did volunteer work at Opportunity Center in Borger and was a Gray Lady for North Plains Hospital in Borger. She was a member of Borger Classroom Teachers, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association and United Methodist Women's Association. She was always willing to extend a helping hand to friends in need. Survivors include three sons, Gene Prater and wife, Martha Sue, of Fritch, Ed Prater and wife, Dorothy Jean, of Horseshoe Bay and Charles Prater and wife, Carla Frances, of Borger; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
