Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Colorado City, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Morgan was born Nov. 24, 1981, in Sterling Colo. He was a senior at West Texas A&M University majoring in agri-business. He graduated from Wellington High School in 2000. He was active in 4-H for more than nine years. He was a member of FFA, Collegiate 4-H, Ag-Exects., Angus Association and Amarillo Hockey Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Merwyn Hood. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Jacqueline and Charles Garner of Wellington; his father and stepmother, Teddy and Terri Morgan of Greeley, Colo.; a sister, Brandi Havens and husband, John, of Clarendon; his girlfriend, Emily Childers of Shallowater; two nephews, Payton Havens and Calder Havens, both of Clarendon; his grandparents, Leona Hood of Westcliffe, Colo., Ted and Lena Morgan of McClave, Colo.; his great-grandmother, Sadie Boettcher of McClave; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mars, 81, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Boren, pastor, Bob Thomas, chaplain of Crown of Texas Hospice, and Denis Melton officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Mars was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Tulia. He was retired from auto sales and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Faith in Life Sunday school class. He married Mary Billington on Feb. 8, 1941, in Tulia. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Mars and wife, Debbie, of Borger; a daughter, Pat Thomas and husband, Ronnie, of Borger; a brother, Richard M. She moved to Optima, Okla., and Guymon, where she spent most of her life. On Aug. 1, 1997, she moved to Amarillo, where she met and married her second husband, Haskell, on March 31, 2001, at the age of 89. She was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene in Guymon. She was a homemaker, excellent cook, nanny and caregiver. She will be remembered as a humorous, generous and loving person. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Maude Whaley; the father of her children, Torman Spinden; a son, James "Bud"; and three sisters, Hazel Black, Ethel Spinden and Audry Potter. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, LaVonne Loofbourrow of Woodward, Okla., and Glenda "Kay" Brinkley and husband, Kenneth, of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 15, 2003 Martha James "Jamie" Sawyer Martha James "Jamie" Sawyer, 95, formerly of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Austin. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church chapel with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector, officiating. Burial will be private. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd Mrs. Sawyer was born in Pheba, Miss., June 3, 1908, to James G. Tatum III and Mattie Goodwin Rife Tatum. In 1909 she came with her parents to the territory of New Mexico, when they homesteaded at Tatum, N.M. She attended Montezuma College in Montezuma, N.M., Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus and Texas Technological University. On Nov. 20, 1928, she married Ray C. Stewart, who later was a well-known Amarillo business property investor. In Amarillo, Mrs. Sawyer was active in Amarillo Garden Club and Chapter Z, PEO, serving both organizations as president. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The family wishes to thank the staff of the third floor, assisted living unit of The Summitt at Westlake Hills for six years of loving care, as well as Hospice Austin and Dr. William Lockett of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977. Survivors include two sons, James T. Sawyer and wife, Janet, of Austin and Thomas Ray Sawyer and wife, Mary Jo, of Midland; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 15, 2003 Susie Alice Smart Susie Alice Smart, 99, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Tucumcari Memorial Cemetery in Tucumcari, N.M., with Bill Johnston officiating. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Luke Presbyterian Church with Dr. Pat Kennedy officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Smart was born in Clarendon on July 17, 1904, to Maggie and William Johnston. They then moved to Tucumcari in 1908, along with her six brothers, Frank, Sam, Jack, Robert, Homer and Milton Johnston. Mrs. Smart went to grade school in Tucumcari and attended high school in Texhoma. She married John Wood in 1923 and they had two sons, William J. and Robert C. Wood. After the death of Mr. Wood she married Robert Ernest Smart in 1933 and they had a daughter, Betty Laverne Smart, and a son, Ben Rufus Smart. Susie moved to Amarillo and lived for 22 years at Winwood Village Retirement Home. She then moved to Integrated Health Services Nursing Home in 1999. She was preceded in death by her six brothers; two sons, William J. Wood and Robert C. Wood; and a grandson, Lynn Dugger. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Laverne Dugger and husband, Eddie, of Amarillo; a son, Ben R. Smart and wife, Sharon of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Wood of Tucumcari; five sisters-in-law, Nellie Johnston, Verneece Ballew and Mildred Smart, all of Tucumcari, Genell Carver of Bloomfield, N.M., and Alma Smart of Gila, N.M.; five granddaughters, Janet Smart and Janet King and husband, Jeff, all of Amarillo, Denise Sova and husband, Don, of Escondido, Calif., and Maritza Wood and Vida Webb, both of Tucumcari; three grandsons, Robert Dugger of Logan, N.M., Stephen Smart of Amarillo and Donnie Webb of Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moyer was called home to her beloved Lord on Oct. 11, 2003. She was born July 12, 1908, in Alluwee, Okla. Graduating from Nowata, Okla., High School, she attended Drury College and graduated from Oklahoma State University. She first taught school for nine years and then joined the staff of Camp Fire Girls Association working in San Francisco, Tulsa, Okla., Amarillo and North Hollywood, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linnaeus Edward Moyer Jr.; her parents, Lambert T. Kinkead, who built the first church for the Delaware Indian Chief Journeycake, and Theresa Louise Zwanzeke; two brothers, Clark M. Kinkead, who headed the agriculture equestrian department of Oklahoma State University and Lambert T. Kinkead, former chief of police of Riverside, Calif.; and two sisters, Louise Kinkead and Frances Kinkead. Survivors include a daughter-in-law and primary caregiver, Nancy Gilmore Moyer; two stepsons, J. Hudson Moyer and Linneaus E. Moyer III; her grandchildren, Jay H. Moyer and Jon G.
