Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Canyon with Dr. Strauss Atkinson officiating and the Rev. David Lowrie and D.L. Harguess assisting. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cooper was born Dec. 8, 1917, to Judge C.E. Hill and Iva Reid Hill in Dalhart. She attended school for a year in Texline and moved to Dalhart when she was in the second grade. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1934. She attended West Texas where she met Clay Cooper, who was also a student at that time. She taught school in Lesley in Hall County for two years and while she was teaching she married Clay Cooper on April 18, 1937. They moved back to Canyon and returned to school. A son, Charles E. Cooper was born Sept. 7, 1939. She was a homemaker. But when World War II caused a help shortage she began helping in their grocery store. From that time on she became a regular helper and partner in the grocery store until they sold the store in 1969 to Benny Cooper, their nephew. She moved with Clay and Charles in 1970 to Eureka, Nev., where they developed farmland. They spent from May to November in Eureka each year, and then returned to Canyon. While in Eureka, she served as organist and pianist for Diamond Valley Baptist Church. She served two terms as Canyon Independent School District trustee and also served on the board of directors for Dreamland Cemetery. She was a life member of the Baptist church and a member of Kings Daughters Sunday school class. She was a member of Sue Hite Study Club, AAUW, Alpha Delta Phi sorority and several bridge clubs. She was a very energetic person and very dedicated to fulfill her duties and obligations. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin of Dallas and Billy of Canyon. Survivors include her husband; her son, Charles E. Cooper of Canyon; a sister-in-law, Patsy Hill Augstat of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Jackie Neil Cooper and wife, Barbara, of Lake Tanglewood; her nieces, Billie Helene Goettsch and husband, Robert, of Cordell, Okla., Iva Jean Cryer and husband, Dale, of Canyon, Kaye Koemer and husband, Gary, of Dallas, Cathy Wilson and husband, Jack, of Lewisville, Ruth Harguess and husband, D.L., of Canyon, Ann Wood and husband, the Rev. Wayne, of Garland and Mary Allen of Georgetown; and her nephews, Marvin Hill and wife of Canyon, Benny Cooper and wife, Shirley, of Amarillo, Joe Cooper and wife, Marge, of Tucumcari, N.M., the Rev. Dan Cooper and wife, Marilyn, of Lexington, Ky., Jimmy Cooper and wife, Pam, of Spring, Dr. Pat Cooper of Houston and David Cooper of Lubbock. Box 60766, Canyon, TX 79016. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov., 1, 2003 Ray Hawkins Ray Hawkins, 91, of Canyon died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in Dumas. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Dreamland Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dumas, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Hawkins was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Turkey to James and May Wood Hawkins. He had been a Canyon resident since 1931. He married Verda Gem Clark in Canyon in 1934. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his wife Sept. 13, 1988, and a grandson, Todd Hawkins in 1993. Survivors include four sons, Alan R. Hawkins and wife, Trudy, David C. Hawkins and wife, Jean, and Don E. Hawkins and wife, Ann, all of Dumas, and Phillip C. Hawkins and wife, Susie, of Artesia, N.M.; his special friends, Bessie Beard of Dumas Nursing Center and Virgie L. Hawkins of Canyon; a sister-in-law, Betty Morrison and husband, Gene, of Canyon; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Dreamland Cemetery Association, P.O. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Fugate had been a resident of Pampa since 1939. She was a licensed vocational nurse for many years, and was a Baptist. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Nolte of Lefors and Twilla Johnson of Oklahoma City; a son, Marvin Fugate of Austin; a brother, Maurice Newton of Ingram; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Michael Waterbury and the Rev. Harrol Waterbury officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Osborne was a farmer. He was a longtime Perryton resident. Survivors include a daughter, Debra Spindle of Oklahoma City; two sons, Thad Osborne III of Nocona and Michael Osborne of Sugar Land; two brothers, Ray Osborne of Perryton and Jack Osborne of Pampa; a sister, Dot Alspaugh of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Trent was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Goodwell. She married Fred James Trent on Nov. 17, 1929, in the Range community. Survivors include two daughters, Lois Woodrum of Perryton, Texas, and Gloria Root of Guymon; a son, James Trent of Stillwater; a sister, Elila May Schuerman of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today in Bannockburn Baptist Church with the Rev. Will Davis Jr. officiating. Arrangements are by Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Mr. Fowler was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a teacher and baseball coach at Bowie High School in Austin. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; and two children, Mackenzie Blaine and Eric Allen.
