Simms CLOVIS, N.M. - Helen M. Simms, 89, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Vest, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Simms was born June 10, 1914, in Marlow, Okla., to R.A. and Effie Mitchell. They moved to Panhandle, Texas, in 1920. She married G.H. "Cotton" Simms on Oct. 23, 1935. She graduated from Panhandle High School in 1931 and attended West Texas State College. Helen, besides being a loving mate to Cotton, was a homemaker, mother and dedicated to a lifetime of service to her church and community. She organized and founded the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary at the Clovis hospital as well as served on the hospital board. She was a life member of P.E.O., a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and a volunteer for United Way of Clovis. Helen, with Cotton and Dr. and Mrs. I.D. Johnson, developed Colonial Park and Golf Course. She was a member of Central Baptist Church for more than 60 years, teaching numerous Sunday school classes and leading many to Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, E. B. "Lefty" Mitchell of Amarillo, Texas, and Joe Mitchell of Pampa, Texas. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mickey and wife, Irene, of Clovis, Jim and wife, Freeda, of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Gerald Simms, J. Davis, 38, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Noel Baker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in New Gordon Cemetery with military honors, by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn. Glenn was born Sept. 8, 1965, in Leadville, Colo. He was a graduate of Walsenburg High School in Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years. He married April Parsons on Aug. 14, 1999, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He worked for IESI in Mineral Wells for the last three years. He moved from Mineral Wells to Gordon in April. He attended Faith Covenant Church in Mineral Wells. Glenn enjoyed coaching Pee Wee football and helping his daughter sell Girl Scout cookies. He was a cement finisher/bricklayer. Mr. Gonzales served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. A member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, he was a giving person always doing things for others and very much a family man. He married Mary Romero on Dec. 8, 1973, in Amarillo. Mrs. Klahr, a Cherokee Indian descendant, was born to Icee and Mary Endsley on Oct. 15, 1909, in Yellville, Ark. She grew up in Crane, Mo., where she met and later married Harold "Kirk" Klahr. She and her husband retired around 1965 from dairy farming in Talala, Okla., and later spent much of their free time traveling across the United States visiting friends and family. Mrs. Klahr was Past Matron of the Eastern Star in Oologah, Okla. She was a member of Lamont Drive Baptist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 20, 2002. Survivors include two sons, Arthur E. Klahr of Amarillo and H.R. She married Ray Wagner in 1937 in Amarillo. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Nuff's and Narcissa-Whitman Circle. She was a charter member of the Amarillo Credit Women and served in all offices. In 1966-67, she was voted the Credit Woman of the Year. She was a charter member of Hi-Plains Pilot Club and served in all of the offices. She was a life member of the Panhandle Photography Association. In 1963, she and her husband built the Ray Wagner Studio at Wolflin and Washington and operated it until 1982 when they sold it to Herb Crowell. She continued to work in the studio until she retired in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mozene Jones Rattan was born March 23, 1920, in Wilbarger County. She married Lawrence Rattan in Plainview on Jan. 16, 1938. Mozene had been a faithful member of San Jacinto Church of Christ since 1942, where for many years she acted as the historian for the congregation. She and her husband were the original owners of Rattan Cleaners, opening it in June 1953 and retiring in January 1983. In 1985, she began doing alterations for Country Club Plaza Cleaners and became active in the business with her grandson. She was a member of the Birthday Club for 25 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She often expressed "her two grandchildren were icing on her cake, but two great-grandsons were the whipped cream." She was a friend to all who knew her, and her sewing skills were in great demand. Mozene was always the happiest sitting at her sewing machine. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1993 and a son-in-law, Chuck Dunaway, in April 1999. Mr. Napp was born June 8, 1933, in DeKalb. He had been a Dumas and Moore County resident since August 1959. He married Nedra Mixon on Dec. 30, 1959, in Winnfield, La. Charles served as the music teacher for the Cactus School. He was a band instructor, PE teacher, part-time principal and finally principal at Cactus, before retiring in 1991. Charles joined Dumas Volunteer Fire Department and held several positions before retiring in 1998 after 30 years. He served with the Army from 1953 to 1955. Charles joined First Baptist Church on Sept. 24, 1969, in Dumas. Mrs. Jett was born on Aug. 24, 1928, in Alva to William and Coral Gardner. She married Winton Wayne Jett on Oct. 14, 1951. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dr. Stan Jett of Eastaboga, Ala., and Dr. W.D. Jett of Seminole; a daughter, Cathy Arnall of Follett, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of Perryton or to The Filling Station in Follett.
