No services are planned. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Cox was a barber and served in the Army. Survivors include his mother, Jo Cox of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 26, 2003 Veda Rhea Borger Veda Rhea Borger, 96, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Central Church of Christ Chapel with Dick Marcear and Paul Sneed officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Borger was born in Calico Rock, Ark. She taught school at Carter, Okla., before moving to Borger in 1926 and then to Amarillo in 1949. She was a member of Central Church of Christ for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy H. Borger in 1981; and a daughter, JoAnn Hampton in 1968. Survivors include two sons, Lacy R. Borger and Jack L. Borger, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Opal Bradford of Abilene and Fern Hughes of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 26, 2003 Jewell Irene Ray Jewell Irene Ray, 90, of Amarillo died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Sparks Springs Advent Christian Church. Burial will be in Perrin Memorial Gardens. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Ray was born to William Lee and Jenny Gillespie in Roanoke. She attended schools in Roanoke, Mineral Wells, Perrin and College Station. She was introduced to Ralph by a mutual friend and they married on May 31, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and a daughter, Roberta McPherson in 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Laura Cobb; three grandsons; a granddaughter; four great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and three great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 26, 2003 Area Destinie Ellis HEREFORD - Destinie Ellis, 12, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Parkside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Kuykendall officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Destinie was born Sept. 13, 1991, in Amarillo, the daughter of Edward and Mechelle Ellis. She attended school in Hereford and was a member of Genesis Church in Hereford. Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Zachary Ellis and Elijah Ellis, both of Hereford; her grandparents, Ray and Molley Coronado of Hereford and John and Josie Ellis of Muleshoe; her great-grandparents, Raquel Coronado of Hereford, John and Aurora Beltran of Hereford and Martha Mireles of Dimmitt. Bell GRUVER - Hugh G. Bell, 79, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Church of Christ. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Bell was born in Tolbert and was a Gruver resident for 51 years. He married Marie Douglas in 1946 in Chillicothe. He was a farmer. He was a member of Gruver Church of Christ. He served with the 136th Infantry Battalion in World War II in the Pacific. Hugh was named the No. 1 Gruver Greyhounds Fan. Hugh and Marie helped raise about 15 children of school teachers. These children grew up to become teachers, nurses, hospital administrators, cowboys and lovely fathers and mothers. Hugh was "Uncle Hugh" or "Poppa" to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and an infant daughter, Tina Marie Bell. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenda Steed of Canadian; and a grandson, Kale Steed of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials be to ALS Association, 2100 N. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 26, 2003 Tamara Lyn Weston Johnson DALHART - Tamara Lyn Weston Johnson, 40, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church in Dalhart with Stephen Lowrie, pastor, and Becky Zint of The Mission in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson was a full-time mom and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter and friend. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the teams of paramedics, doctors and nurses who diligently tried to save her. Survivors include her husband, Jay; two daughters, Michelle Weston and Brittany Johnson, both of Dalhart; a son, Brett Johnson of Dalhart; her father, Duane Verschelde of Amarillo; her mother, Wanda Haaland of Dalhart; her grandmother, Janie Mabry of Amarillo; and a host of family and friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 26, 2003 Josephine "Jessie" Petty DALHART - Josephine "Jessie" Petty, 70, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003. Memorial services were Friday in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Laredo. Arrangements were by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Petty was born Dec. 25, 1932, in Laredo. She married Niel Petty and they ranched in the Laredo area for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Frazier of Dalhart; a brother, Ed Dillard of Laredo; and three grandchildren.
