Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 27, 2003 Carl Hackler Carl Hackler, 69, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hackler was born in 1934 in Childress County, back when doctors still made house calls. His doctor rode horse back to his parents' farm to help with his birth. His family moved to Wellington when he was a teenager, and he graduated from Wellington High School in 1954. He moved to Amarillo in 1954 and began working for the Santa Fe Railway. He then served in the Army in the 95th Missile Battalion from 1956 to 1958, primarily stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Following his military service, he returned to Amarillo and resumed his career with the railroad, retiring with disability after a 29 year career. After retiring, he joined the Moose Lodge where he served as treasurer for many years. He was also an active member of the Elks Lodge in Plainview. He was a member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church and was a scout master for the Amarillo Boy Scout Troop from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. He had numerous hobbies that included a love of motorcycles, photography, music and movies from the 1940s and 1950s era. He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Nadine Morgan Hackler, in 1998. Survivors include a son, Dan Morgan of Amarillo; his mother, Katy Hackler of Plainview; two sisters, Barbara Coleman of Washington, D.C., and Nancy Gibson of Plainview; a brother, Charles Hackler of Lubbock; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Elk City Cemetery. Mr. Ladd was born in Magazine, Ark. He worked for Phillips for 20 years prior to retiring. He was a member of the Dalhart Masonic Lodge and was a Baptist. He served with the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise in 2000; and a son and daughter-in-law; Stephen Ladd and wife, Diana, in 1984. Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Gray was born in Dumas and was raised in Shattuck, Okla. He was a graduate of Shattuck High School as well as Amarillo College. He managed K Bob's Steak House in Dumas for several years in the late 1970s and early 1980s before returning to Amarillo. He married Debbie Matthews on July 8, 1978, in Dumas. He moved to Dallas in 1988 and lived there until 1994. He served as director of diagnostic services at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital from 1994 to 1999. He owned and operated the Pierce Street Grill. Mr. Garcia was born March 27, 1931, in Tucumcari. He was retired from the New Mexico Highway Department, where he was a surveyor. Mrs. Kirby was born in North Buena Vista, Iowa, on Dec. 24, 1924, to John Engling and Bernadette Brimeyer. Meme was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than to be surrounded by her family. At each family gathering, she made her famous homemade bread and soup. She seldom missed any activity her children or grandchildren were involved in. She was a servant all her life. She was an avid arts and crafts enthusiast and can be credited for giving many people their start in business. She was well known for her sense of humor and her giving spirit, always concerned for others. She will be dearly missed by her family and friendsand they rise up and call her blessed.
