Garner Oscar G. Garner, 74, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Central Church of Christ with Dan Bouchelle officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Garner graduated from Austin High School and from University of Houston with a psychology degree. He married Yvonne in Amarillo on Dec. 22, 2002. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, Inspirational Writers Alive, Panhandle Professional Writers and Rosicrucian Order. He moved to Amarillo in 1990 from Houston. He wrote articles for the Amarillo Globe-News opinion page. He was an active member of the Republican party and served as precinct chair in 1998. He was also chair of the Resolutions Committee and was volunteer of the year for the Republican party. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his kids and loved the Lord. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Garner; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glynna Ray Garner of Houston; a sister, Margaret Huddleston of Austin; three grandchildren, Christopher Garner, Nathan Garner and Kerry England; four great-grandchildren, April Garner, Ashton Garner, Preston Garner and Jordan England. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 13, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Treva Nell Payne Treva Nell Payne, 75, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Robertson Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband Al Covington. Ms. Payne was born Dec. 8, 1928, the daughter of Terrell and Faye Trussell in Memphis. She graduated from Clarendon High School at the age of 15, and later graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She further pursued her education and was awarded a master's degree in mathematics in 1962 from Louisiana State University. She later moved and resided in Casper, Wyo., for 37 years. Ms. Payne enjoyed a long and distinguished teaching career. She was awarded the position "Professor Emeritus for Mathematics" at Casper College in Casper in 1966, a title she held until her retirement in 1989 after 23 years of teaching. In 1994, Ms. Payne received special recognition when she was selected as one of the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers," and her biography was published in the 1994 edition. She was extremely passionate about teaching, and her influence touched the lives of many young adults. Ms. Payne was highly respected by both her peers and her students. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively and spending time with her family. She touched the lives of many, and will be missed by all. Ms. Payne was married to Albert Wayne "Al" Covington on Dec. 24, 1946, who predeceased her in 1966. She later married Joe Payne, who has since passed away. Survivors include a son Keith Covington and wife, Gwen, of Provo, Utah; a daughter, Andrea Covington of Phoenix ; a brother, Art Trussell and wife, Elizabeth, of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paducah. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Yarbrough was born in Paducah on April 18, 1915. She married Buddy Yarbrough in Hollis, Okla., on Dec. 28, 1932. In the 1950s they moved to Crowell. They then moved to Tulia in 1961, where she worked in the drugstore soda fountain for 24 years. In 1990, she moved to Amarillo, where she lived at the Continental. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Ronald Yarbrough in 2003. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Royce Yarbrough of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Ronda Saraz of San Antonio; three great-grandchildren, Devon Gattis of Arlington, and Dillon Wickwire and Brianna Saraz, both of San Antonio. Survivors include her husband, Lee; a son, Randy Carr of San Saba; two daughters, Robin Black of Goldthwaite and Teresa Carroll of Tyler; three sisters, Sharon Edwards of Hereford, Vickie Ritcher of Amarillo and Jo Serrat of Phoenix; her father, Earl Caster of Canyon; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Bateman was born in Liberal, Kan., on Jan. 17, 1929, to Henry Clay and Josephine (Clark) Allen. Katie married Marion Palmer Bateman Jr. on March 12, 1949, in Clayton, N.M. Katie was a living example of the serenity prayer. She was the ultimate wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend. She left her part of the world a kinder, more gentle place. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Allen. Mr. Guseman was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Dodge City, Kan., to Don and Jane Engle Guseman. He earned his bachelor of science degree in agriculture from Oklahoma State University in 1964. Gary was a national sales manager for Smith-Kline. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Guseman, and two nephews, Stuart Johnson and Brice Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Kay Kaiser; a son, Kirk Buckner and wife, Jennifer, of Charolette, N.C.; a grandson, Kyler of Charlotte; his mother, Jane Guseman of Kansas; a sister, Donna Johnson of Amarillo; a niece, Kim Nester; and two great-neices, Caitlin Welch and Kelsey Kealer. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Lohrville, Iowa. She and her husband, George, lived in Amarillo for five years from 1972 to 1977. Survivors include her mother, Margaret Cram of Lake View, Iowa; five children, Jackie Terry and Diane Thies, both of Omaha, Neb., Georgia Zastrow of Loveland, Doug Smith of Israel and Kim Hogstad of Pine Island, Minn.; two sisters, Jo Leonard of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sadee Frank of Lake View; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
