Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holley Funeral Home Chapel in Canyon with Howard Morris and Alvin Howard, elders, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Cogburn was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Carbon to Charley Crofford Prestridge and Susie Melvina Gray Prestridge. After her graduation from Anson High School, she moved to Lubbock where she met her husband of 63 years, Arnold Cogburn. They were married Dec. 21, 1940, in Lubbock. She was a devoted wife and wonderful mother to their four children. She loved to quilt and cook and shared many wonderful dishes with friends, neighbors and family. Mrs. Cogburn, known as Nan-Naw by all of her descendants, was baptized into the kingdom of her Lord in August 1938. She spent her entire life serving others, starting as a child helping her dad deliver milk and vegetables in season to neighbors who were less fortunate than they were. A quote found in her Bible stated, "The happiest heart is the heart that serves others." No other words could better describe the Nan-Naw. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gaylon Prestridge and Schoy Prestridge; and a granddaughter, Marlena Moore. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Charles Cogburn and wife, Nancy, of Lamar, Ark., Jerry Cogburn and wife, Carolyn, of Amarillo, and Gaylord Cogburn and wife, Eunice, of Happy; a daughter, Katie Sue McClellan and her husband, Larry, of Plano; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored; and a sister, Gwendola Hickerson of Baird. Burial wll be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Higgs was born in Ford County to the late William Edgar and Ruth Ford Higgs. He had a life membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America with more than 50 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Gail Garrison; his parents; a brother Race Higgs; his sisters, Leona Whitehead and Virginia Cleghorn; and a special nephew, Ronnie Higgs. Frank Peery The Rev. J. Frank Peery, 82, formerly of Amarillo, died Dec. 20, 2003, in Sugarland. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Curtis Cadenhead and the Rev. Steve Gains officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. The Rev. Peery graduated from Southern Methodist University and received his master's degree from Duke University. He married Frances Elizabeth Roberts on Oct. 8, 1945, in Durham, N.C. They adopted three children. He was ordained as a minister in 1946 at Polk Street United Methodist Church. He ministered to many churches in the Texas Panhandle. For many years he led Christian tour groups to the Holy Lands and Europe. In his retirement after 50 years of service to the church, he became the minister of Adrian and Wildorado United Methodist churches. He married Beatrice Crawford Haenisch in Polk Street United Methodist Church on May 9, 1997. He was a generous man who helped all who came to him in need. He was a wise adviser, dear friend and forthright teacher. He never spoke ill of anyone. He prayed continually, had a grateful heart and lived according to the teachings of his savior. His life brought glory to the Lord. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1994; and a daughter, Stephanie Owen, in 1955. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patricia Herzog of Kentucky; a son, Richard Neal Peery of Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Burkett was born Oct. 27, 1947 in Muskogee, Okla., to Deak and Ann Burkett. He was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1965. He received a full scholarship to Tulsa University where he played basketball for three years and football for one. He married Janis Smith on Dec. 27, 1969 in Amarillo. He was self-employed in billboard sales. He loved to travel and was an avid golfer. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and Tascosa Country Club. He was an extremely loving husband for 34 years, a proud and supportive father and a caring brother. He was truly everyone's friend and will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Burkett and his parents. Survivors include his wife; a son, Judd Burkett and wife, Tara, of Hurst; three brothers, Jeff Burkett and Randy Burkett, both of Amarillo, and Adam Burkett of Absecon, N.J.; and a sister, Susan Shankle of Amarillo. "Butch" Crouch Jr. Charles W. "Butch" Crouch Jr., 55, of Amarillo died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003. Bell St. Mr. Crouch was born Aug. 27, 1948, in Amarillo. He attended Tascosa High School, Amarillo College and West Texas State University, during which time he was a member of the band and orchestra and played a number of instruments -- his favorite being the saxophone. He owned and operated several businesses in Canyon and Amarillo during his lifetime. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying scuba diving, fishing and hunting. Known as "Butch" to his friends, he was a compassionate man who never failed to lend a helping hand to a friend in need. He was a member of National Hot Rod Association and International Hot Rod Association for more than 30 years and enjoyed the companionship of the many friends he made. He had many accomplishments but two he was most proud of were winning the Competition Eliminator Class at the 1975 NHRA Winter Nationals and setting the class record in IHRA F1 B/SA in 1975. He was always willing to help his friends and fellow racers and enjoyed seeing his friends do well, on and off the track. He was preceded in death by his father, C.W. Crouch. Surivivors include his mother, Ann Crouch; and special friends, Jackie Ferguson and Les Hastie, both of Amarillo, Rik Andersen of Canyon, and Jerry Anderson of Amarillo. Georgia St. Mr. Wood served in the Navy during World War II. he was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church for more than 30 years where he served as deacon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Ted," in December 1986; a grandson, Donnie Jordan; a brother, Bernard Webb; a sister, Ione Webb; and her parents. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. O'Neal was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Pampa and had been a Clarendon resident all of his life. He was employed for several years as a custodian for Clarandon Public Schools. He was very involved in Clarendon Church of Christ and in the activities of Medical Center Nursing Home where he had resided for the past several years. He was always eager and willing to help people in any way. He was preceded in death by his parents, James LeRoy "Boots" O'Neal and Bernice Lee Andis O'Neal; and a sister, Becky Miller. Ron Noble, pastor of Pampa Chapel of the Apostolic Faith, Mike Mueller, elder of Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints Church in Dumas, and Richard Gattis, of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pampa, officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton by Carmichael- Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Simmons was born Dec. 6, 1908, in Section 79, Block 4-T, T & NO Railway Co. Survey in Ochiltree County to William Andie Simmons and Sarah Elizabeth Seay Simmons of Wawaka. His only sibling was Joseph Hayden Simmons who was nearly 12 years his senior. He married Anabel Gilliam on Sept. 7, 1930, in Gruver. Anabel was born less than one mile from where Edwin was born and they were never separated for any long period of time during their lifetimes. They had been married for 73 years at the time of his death. They had one child, a son, Paul Simmons, who was born in Ochiltree County at the home of his mother's parents within two miles of the places of Edwin's and Anabel's birthplaces. Mr. Simmons obtained his certificate of public accountancy on March 31, 1946, and remained in active practice for more than 56 years. He was a member of Texas Association of Certified Public Accountants. He accepted Christ as his savior shortly after the birth of their son and became a member of Reorganzied Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when he was 76 years of age and remained so until his death. He was a member of Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. Suvivors include his wife; a son, Paul Simmons and wife, Ione, of Pampa; two grandchildren, J. Vondel Stevens and husband, Scott, of Canyon and E.P. Simmons of Chicago; one great-grandson, Timothy Stevens of Canyon; and one niece, Rubyjo Wilbanks ,of Spearman who is also his sister by adoption. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Sotero Sena officiating. Burial will be in Texico Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home. He worked for El Dorado Dairy where he was an animal health assistant. He was a graduate of Clovis High School. Survivors include his mother, Mary C. Gonzalez of Clovis; five brothers, Val Gonzales, Johnny Gonzales, Joe Gonzales and Alfonso Sandoval, all of Clovis, and Manuel Chavez of Pueblo, Colo.; three sisters, Tina Chavez of Portales, and Lucille Mondragon and Cipriana Aragon, both of Clovis; 16 nieces and nephews; a great-nephew; and numerous cousins.
