Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Wolf, officiating, and the Rev. O.K. Bowen, assisting. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home. Mr. Elliott was born March 28, 1934, in Bomarton to the late Edmond Elliott and Mae Clark Elliott. He graduated from high school in Seymour. He moved to Memphis on Oct. 19, 1963, from Albany. He married Nancy Hayley on June 11, 1954, in Seymour. Mr. Elliott was owner of Elliott's Service Center. He retired in 1999. He served as a board member on the Memphis Chamber of Commerce, Memphis City Council and Memphis Economic Development Corp. He was also a member of First Baptist Church, Memphis Lions Club and Memphis Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by two sisters, Neva Jo Elliott and Emma Dean Young. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Brenda Browning and her husband, Mike, of Seminole, and Suzanne Bierschwale and her husband, Billy, of Hewitt; two brothers, Roy Elliott of Neosho, Mo., and Marvin Elliott of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Gerry Gamboa of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren, Chris Browning of Canyon, Ryan Browning of San Marcos, Hayley Mejia and Nathan Mejia, both of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Erin Browning and Morgan Browning, both of Seminole. She was a member of the Pioneer Study Club, Ladies Aide at Trinity Lutheran Church and the library board. Koob, 87, of Amarillo died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Children's Chapel of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Koob was born in St. Louis on May 25, 1916. He married his high school sweetheart, Willetta G. Egner, on June 21, 1939. For the next 41 years they lived in St. Louis where they raised their family of four children. He and Willetta moved to Melbourne, Fla., in 1980. They were active members of Crossroads Community Church. Mr. Koob had great energy and enthusiasm for life and a delightful sense of humor. He worked in the dry cleaning management business until age 84. In 1994, he was among semi-finalists for the Timex Longevity Award, an award sponsored by the state of Florida to dispel myths about older workers and their abilities. He and Willetta moved to Amarillo in August, 2002, and lived at The Continental. Survivors include his wife; three sons, the Rev. James F. Koob, and his wife, Eileen, of Arvada, Colo., Jeff Koob, and Jerrold Koob and wife, Nettie, of St. Louis; a daughter, Judy Periman, and her husband, Dr. Phillip Periman of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Renfro was born May 16, 1921, to Tipton Rogers and Loye Mae Moore in Grove, Okla. She married Daniel S. Renfro on June 3, 1945, at Sacramento, Calif. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and worked as a Realtor. Nana always loved her family with all her heart and was dedicated to protecting and looking out for her family. She loved God and was a very loving wife and was devoted to her husband Daniel. She was active in her church when she was younger and in the Women's Missionary Society. She had worked in the nursery. Mrs. Hatfield was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was always smiling. She loved family and friends; and her house was always open. She had a great love for God and life. She was the adopted "granny" to many boys and girls from Boys Ranch. She married Mark B. Hatfield on Jan. 13, 1946, in Clarendon. Mrs. Hatfield was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; a son, Johnny Warren Hatfield in 1987; her parents, Ruby and Jess Ivey; and a brother, Rembert Ivey. Mr. Rogers was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Goodwell, Okla., to Martel and Ethel Pearl Taggart Rogers. He was a Baptist minister and served in the Philippines as a missionary. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 1, 2004 ============================================================================= Elsewhere William James Cessnun Jr. SOLDOTNA, Alaska - William James Cessnun Jr., 70., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003. Services were Dec. 23 at Kenai Bible Church with Vance Wonser, pastor, officiating. Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Jones, Don Frame, Don Brown, Joe Rousewell, Matt Neel, Brad Frates, Billy Cessnun, Guy Holland, Tex Cole and Jerry Hobart. Mr. Cessnun was born March 25, 1933, in Dalhart, Texas, where he attended high school and received his diploma. He furthered his education at Texas A&M after receiving a football scholarship. He entered the Army and served during the Korean War until he was honorable discharged on April 15, 1955. Mr. Cessnun met his wife, Elaine, in church and they were married at First Baptist Church in Spearman, Texas, on July 28, 1956. Together they spent 13 years in Texas before moving to Kenai in 1969. He lived in Kenai for 26 years and had moved to Soldotna seven years ago. He worked as an operator at Unocal from 1970 until he retired in September 1993. He was a member of the Kenai Bible Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046 in Soldotna. He also volunteered with the American Red Cross during the floods on the Kenai peninsula. He enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren, hunting and spending time in Caribou Hills, woodworking, snow machining and picking berries. The family wrote, "Dad loved his family! His cheering voice could be heard above the crowd encouraging his loved ones to run faster, shoot more baskets and sing prettier. A more loyal fan could not be found. He would listen forever, drive through snowstorms to pick you up or build you a wishing well to decorate the yard. Dad knew no strangers. He loved to chat, engaging often in friendly debate. He was a great neighbor and could be found mowing lawns, snow blowing driveways or keeping an eye on things. By example, Dad taught us honesty, courage and hard work. He instilled in all of us a belief that we could do anything. We will miss his smile, laugh and tender hugs and we look forward to rejoining him in Heaven one day." He lost a long battle with lymphoma surrounded by his family at his home. Mr. Cessnun was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Estelle Cessnun, and a brother, J.B. Cessnun. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 1, 2004 ============================================================================= Ella Rea LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Ella Rea, 77, of Lynnwood, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at HCR- Manor Care in Lynnwood. Ella Rea was born March 19, 1926 to John Furey and Catherine Furey. Ella grew up and attended school in Philadelphia. She married Carl N. Rea on Aug. 19, 1947. Carl and Ella Rea moved to Amarillo in June, 1948, where Ella gave birth to the couple's only child, Carl H. Rea. She was involved in local school and military service organizations. Since May 1997, Ella lived in Lynnwood with her son. She was involved with two senior citizen organizations in Lynnwood. Ella's absolute devotion to her family and friends, her true sense of humor and her unconditional love will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a very warm loving mother, grandmother and friend. Everyone who met Ella was better for the experience of knowing her. Her family would like to express its deep appreciation for the wonderful care given to our mother and grandmother by the staff at HCR-Manor Care in Lynnwood. Survivors include her son, Carl H.
