Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Assembly of God Church. Arrangements are by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Early Tuesday morning as the rest of us were waking in our homes to start our day, Barbara Nunn woke up and found "a better home awaiting." Born Sept. 23, 1930, Barbara was the first child born to M.C. and Ann Davis. At the age of 4, Barbara was stricken with polio, but from that moment on, dared the disease to impact her life in any way. Although she faced many physical hardships, her soul was so developed it made the rest of us realize that physical space is such a small part of life. Barbara went on to college and successfully completed a double master's program in art and library science. She married Sparky, the first love of her life, and returned to her home in Panhandle, where she lived and raised the second love of her life, Debbie. With Barbara's caring nature, her Southern charm and her pearly West Texas drawl, acquaintances soon became lifelong friends. In Panhandle, Barbara was very involved with the school and the Methodist church. She was head librarian of Carson County Public Library and transformed it into one of the best libraries in Texas. Fortune smiled on Barbara once again when she married Richard Nunn, the next love of her life. Richard and Barbara moved to Central Texas to be closer to their children and spent many happy years together. Barbara was soon blessed with the final and dearest love of her life, her beautiful granddaughter, Kacy. Barbara and Kacy spent wonderful days together painting and discussing the deep philosophical issues known only to a young soul. Barbara will be remembered most for her beautiful artwork. She began painting at the age of 7. Not only did she become an accomplished artist in many media from needlework to oil painting, but for the last 20 years mastered the difficult media of watercolor. For 50 years, Barbara hand-painted each and every one of her Christmas cards, which were sent out to more than 100 friends and family each year. Her collection of Christmas cards has been displayed at the Square House Museum and written about in numerous articles. They are treasures that are collected and preserved by her friends and family. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Opdahl and husband, Chris; a brother, Marvin Davis and wife, Monica; a sister-in-law, Velma Davis; her stepchildren, Susan Wester, Riley and Dana Nunn, Karen and Danny Escobedo and Rick and Peggy Schatz; her grandchildren, Kacy Opdahl, Conal and Selena Rosanbalm, Bonnie and Collier Schatz and Tori and Pearson Nunn; her nieces, Chris Duffy and Nancy Rajchel; a nephew, Kelly Davis; and many, many friends who loved her very much.
