No memorial services will be held. His remains will be scattered from the bridge over Las Moras Creek on Fort Clark Springs. Arrangements are by Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Mr. Hensley was small in stature, big in heart, always with a friendly smile and a good word to say. He died peacefully following a heart attack suffered on Dec. 25, 2003. He was born Nov. 13, 1915. He married Eunice Corine Clemens on June 25, 1938, in Amarillo, where they raised their three children, Bob, Darla and James. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1976, though his love for the railroad never ended. Bruce moved to Brackettville in 1998, favoring the warm weather and small town atmosphere. There, he forged numerous friendships. He was preceded in death by his wife; his mother, Erie Hensley; and two sisters, Ora Mae Fidler and Beulah Jones. Survivors include his three children and their respective spouses; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a niece; a nephew; and countless friends and neighbors. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amarillo Mary Virginia Murray Blackburn Mary Virginia Murray Blackburn, 85, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. James E. Garrett, senior pastor, the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor, and Dr. Jordan Grooms, former senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Blackburn was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Austin, to Ada Pearle and C.A. Murray. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo and Canyon. Mrs. Blackburn attended Southern Methodist University, but received her BA and MA degrees from West Texas State University. She returned to school at age 50 and graduated from Northwest Texas School of Nursing. In 1969, she served as charge nurse in the coronary care unit of Northwest Texas Hospital and as an instructor of psychiatric/mental health counseling. In 1979, she received her second master's degree in counseling. Mrs. Blackburn was a former member of Junior League of Amarillo, a Parenting Service Board member and officer, founding member of Women's Forum and the first president who initiated many projects for Amarillo Women's Network. She was an Amarillo College Women's Program director and a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She married Calvin Henry Blackburn on Feb. 15, 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a grandson, Will Whitehead. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Lynn White of Amarillo, Susan Joanna Blackburn of Omaha, Neb., and Emily Diane Burns and husband, Bob, of Dallas; her grandchildren, Gene Edmiston, Elise Eustace, Sloan Eustace, Britney Whitehead, Elizabeth White and Frank Henry White; her great- grandchildren, Dillan and Hannah Edmiston; and many dear friends and colleagues. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Bjork was born April 21, 1951, in Eureka, S.D., and was raised in Leola, S.D. She had been a Texas resident for 27 years. Known to family and friends as "Aunt Bonnie," she was an inspirational role model. She loved angels and scrapbooking. Bonnie was a Paramount Terrace Christian Church member and was a volunteer there. She retired as a computer operations manager from Anderson Merchandisers. Survivors include her husband, Ron; a daughter, Heather Woolley and husband, Tim, of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Jaedyn Alyssa Woolley of Amarillo; three sisters, Sandi Hall, Brenda Treftz, both of Amarillo, and Cheryl "Tutie" Martin of Aberdeen, S.D.; two brothers, Glenn Treftz and Mike Treftz, both of Aberdeen; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Ledgerwood married Cecil Ledgerwood on Jan. 14, 1943. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Happy Church of Christ with Rick Bloodworth, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Dorris was born May 19, 1910, in Iowa Park, to Benton and Edith Fields. She and her husband, Frank, moved to the Panhandle from Iowa Park in the late 1930s and began farming. She continued farming after her husband's death in 1947 and had one of the first Angus herds in the Texas Panhandle. She enjoyed her outdoor life and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Bruce and Gene Fields. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Frost and husband, Bob, of San Jon, N.M.; two granddaughters, Robin Slutz and husband, James, of San Jon and Michelle Frost of Happy; three great-granddaughters, Shasta Slutz, JaTawn Slutz and Brittany Slutz, all of San Jon; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Fields of Canyon and Ruth Gard of Wichita Falls; two nephews, Vonnie Fields and wife, Ann, of Canyon and Jim Gard of Newalla, Okla.; two nieces, Dorris Gard and Dianne Gard, both of Fort Worth; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Guthrie was born in Star on March 5, 1910. He married Ailene Johnson on March 18, 1948, in Lamesa. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Agnell of Austin; a son, J.T. Guthrie of Austin; a sister, Eva Costello of Austin; and two grandsons.
