Moore Joe E. Moore, 85, of Canyon died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Pampa. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holley Funeral Home Chapel in Canyon with the Rev. David Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Private burial will be in Umbarger. Mr. Moore was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Mount Pleasant. He attended Amarillo High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He married Elizabeth Morgan on Aug. 15, 1990, in Price, Utah, and moved to Canyon to live. He was a member of Canyon Senior Citizens Association. Survivors include his wife. The family suggests memorials be to Pampa Nursing Center, 1321 W. Kentucky St., Pampa, TX 79066. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amarillo Marvin Felty Marvin Felty, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Felty was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Olustee, Okla., to Ezra Forest Felty and Berniece Billington. He married Mary Carter on Feb. 14, 1953, in Tucumcari, N.M. He enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart. He was employed at Farmland Industries as a warehouse manager, retiring after 42 years of service. Mr. Felty was a member of Bykota Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Vincent Forest Felty of Irving and Mike Felty and Greg Felty, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Billie Cooper of Plainview and Tommie Johnson of Washington; three grandchildren, Cory Felty of Amarillo, Lori Lara of Hurst and Shawntell Riddick of Dallas; and eight great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phoebe Jane Welch Shelton Phoebe Jane Welch Shelton, 95, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery at the Shelton Family Mausoleum with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Shelton was born Jan. 29, 1908, in Wellsville, N.Y., one of five children to Van and Gertrude Welch. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy of The Woods in Indiana, with a major in interior design. She married J. Malcolm Shelton, an Amarillo ranching and business leader, in 1940 in Fort Worth. Widely traveled and an avid lover of the arts, Mrs. Shelton was a founding trustee and longtime advocate for Amarillo Museum of Art, receiving a Golden Nail Foundation Award in 1987. As a supporter of the arts, in the past few years, Mrs. Shelton has donated some 25 works of art to the museum, all reflecting her discerning eye and wide-ranging interest. Mrs. Shelton was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and three brothers. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie W. Iverson of Midland; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Art Center, 500 S. Taylor St., Suite 101, Amarillo, TX 79101. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Jewell Sprague BORGER - Jewell Sprague, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Calvin Newton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Sprague was a homemaker, church pianist and oganist and taught piano in her home for many years. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include three daughters, Arlynna DeVore of Tulsa, Okla., Annelle Reed of Amarillo and Aleesa Rau of Springdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 20, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helen Whitney PANHANDLE - Helen Whitney, 90, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. William Fuller officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Ms. Whitney was born March 16, 1913, in Panhandle, and lived many of her wonderful years in Texas. Ms. Whitney died at St. Ann's Nursing Home in the town of her birthplace. Ms. Whitney was one of five children born to the late Goldie Margaret Held and Stala Gibson Bobbitt. She resided many years in Carlsbad, N.M., and later moved to Denver. Ms. Whitney was active in each of these communities, serving as a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church congregation and Order of the Eastern Star in Panhandle, and a member of the Altrurian Club and president of the Credit Women's Breakfast Club in New Mexico. She enjoyed playing the piano, but the truest love of her blessed life was her family. Ms. Whitney's family would like to express deep appreciation to all the "earth angels" at St. Ann's Nursing Home for their heartfelt care, compassion, and support. She was preceded in death by her parents; two young sons, Jimmy and Dewayne; and her sister, Charlotte. Survivors include a daughter, Nelda Buehler of Amarillo; a sister, Jerry Nunn of Panhandle; two brothers, Glenn Bobbitt and wife, Lois, of Amarillo and Fred Bobbitt of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Tracy, Kristi, and Phillip; six "pride and joy" great-grandchildren, Jordan, Nicole, Hannah, Elise, Rachel, and Elaina; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to St. Ann's Nursing Home, P.O. Box 1179, Panhandle, TX 79068; or a favorite charity. Visitation will be today at Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle. Mr. Jacobs was born Nov. 26, 1959, in Quanah. He married Katherine Anthony on Aug. 22, 1991, in Childress. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Pearl Dalton of Childress; a daughter, Tamisha Evon Brown of Childress; a stepson, Eric Anthony Jacobs of Childress; six brothers, Gene Edward Burns of Amarillo, Williams Davis II of San Diego, and Abraham Jacobs, Calvin Jacobs, Eugene Jacobs and Gerald Jacobs, all of Baton Rouge, La.; seven sisters, Terri Lynn Dickens and Rena Jane Davis, both of Childress, Elizabeth Ann Carter of Norman, Okla., Joann Shepard of Borger, Claudette Allen and Tammy Resha Davis, both of San Diego, and Tammy Jacobs of Baton Rouge; a granddaughter; and a stepbrother, James Burns of Baton Rouge.
