Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, senior pastor, and Dr. Winfred Moore, pastor emeritus, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Sutton was born in Muskogee, Okla., and had been a resident of Amarillo for 55 years. She was a homemaker. She married Clarence Sutton on Nov. 24, 1938, in Sand Springs, Okla. As a member of First Baptist Church, she had been a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She had a great love for the Lord and lived the life that was taught through her Sunday school lessons. Her first love was the Lord and her family was second. It may never be known how many lives she touched in a Christian manner and how many lives were led to the Lord through her teachings. She took mission trips to Singapore, Malaysia and Sicily, and financially supported many other mission trips. She and her husband sponsored five children throughout the world. Travel throughout the world with her husband was one of her greatest pleasures. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Sutton in 2001. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jan Heineman and husband, Robert, of Colleyville and Donna Sutton of Irving; two brothers, Bennett Kerr of Muskogee, Okla., and Jack Kerr of Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren, Parker, Taylor, Oliver and Stephen. She was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church, where she was very involved with the women's ministry. She was also a member of the County Extension Women's Group. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with Dr. Stan Coffey, pastor of San Jacinto Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be Saturday in Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, Colo., with Keith Kelley, her husband's nephew of Snyder, Colo., officiating. Mrs. Kelley was born in Lamar on March 1, 1915, to Dock and Viola Cosper. She graduated from Lamar Union High School in 1933 and from Colorado Woman's College in Denver in 1935. She taught in rural schools in Kiowa and Prowers counties in Colorado for six years. She married Paul Edward Kelley on July 4, 1941, in Salina, Kan. They lived in Denver, Indianapolis and Las Animas, Colo., before moving to Amarillo in 1959. She was the secretary for Sunrise Elementary School from 1960 to 1980. She had been a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church since 1959. She taught in the children's Sunday school department for more than 30 years, and also volunteered for many years in the church's Heartbeat Tape Ministry. She had been a resident of Seville Estates since November 2001, where she enjoyed playing dominoes with the other residents. She had wanted to visit every state before dying. She fell short by only one state, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; her parents; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Paul E. Kelley Jr. and wife, Rosemary, of Austin, and Gordon R. Kelley and wife, Roxy, and David K. Kelley, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Ms. Meredith was born in Wichita Falls and moved to Amarillo at the age of 8. She attended McKinley School and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1938. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 44 years of service. Ms. Meredith was a member of First Baptist Church, Telephone Company Pioneers and Amarillo Senior Citizens. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 22, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- K Bert "Tex" Watson K Bert "Tex" Watson, 78, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with the Rev. Roger Hubbard officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Watson was born to Max and Elizabeth Watson in Ranger. The family moved to Amarillo when he was 3. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942, then enrolled in the Naval V12 program at the University of Colorado, receiving a BA in chemical engineering in 1945. He was called to duty in the Pacific Theater as an officer during World War II. Upon receipt of an honorable discharge, Tex returned to the University of Colorado to attend law school. K Bert and Joy Willhoite were married in Houston in 1947. He completed his law degree in 1949. In 1950, K Bert started his career as a Texas assistant attorney general and completed his career as CEO of Pioneer Corp. after 41 years of service. Community service positions held include chairman of Southern Union Gas, chairman of Water Inc., president of Amarillo Bar Association and director of United Way. K Bert was voted as Outstanding Young Texan and Boss of the Year in 1976. He served on the Texas Tech Advisory Board and the Dean's Advisory Committee during the 1980s. Tex enjoyed many years of service to Boy Scouts of America as committee chairman of Troop 80, and on the executive committee of Llano Estacado Council. He received BSA's highest honor of the Silver Beaver award in 1985. Tex enjoyed hunting, ranching, reading, traveling, metal sculpting and raising horses. His greatest love was time with his family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandy; four sons, Randy and wife, Ann, Kenneth, Delk and wife, Ruth, and David and wife, Janet; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Bartel, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Maness was born March 20, 1916, in McNairy County, Tenn., to John Gilbert and Dona Hunter Ward. She was an outstanding basketball player during her school years at Finger, Tenn. She went on to become a teacher and basketball coach in the Finger schools after receiving her teaching certificate from Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tenn., in 1940. She will be remembered for her love of children and of teaching. Indeed, she is remembered in the book "First A Dream," printed in 2002, authored by Jim Clayton, one of her first grade students, describing her as "sweet, tolerant, patient, yet completely in charge." She married Troy Edward Maness in Corinth, Miss., on Oct. 18, 1947, giving up her beloved teaching career to become a homemaker in the Panhandle of Texas. She and her husband lived and farmed outside White Deer until retiring in 1980, and moving to Pampa in 1981, where they lived for 20 years and were members of Calvary Baptist Church. Due to health reasons, they moved to Amarillo in March 2001 to be closer to their children in their later years. We express our gratitude to Dewain and Carolyn Callen of Amarillo, who have lovingly cared for her in their home for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leonard Ward and John Gilbert Ward Jr.; and seven sisters, Lottie Joyner, Effie Freeman, Myrtle Smith, Annie Roland, Lettie Lofton, Hazel Womble and Crystal Redmon; and her precious granddaughter, Keitha Jo Davis. Mr. Lindsey was born June 9, 1945, to Frank Bailey Lindsey and Pauline Wingeart Lindsey in Wellington. He graduated from Quail High School with the class of 1963. Bill married Nancy Thomas on June 1, 1968, in Wellington. He worked as a welder, a farmer and rancher and in law enforcement. He was a former deputy of Hall, Childress and Collingsworth counties. He had also worked for the Midland Police Department. While in Hall County, Bill had also served as chief of police. Bill was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as deacon. He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and past master of Wellington Masonic Lodge No. 763. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Lindsey and Frank Lindsey Jr. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, DeJon O'Rear and Diana Green, both of Wellington, and Danielle Morgan of Amarillo; a brother, Jimmy Don Lindsey of Memphis; a sister, Mary Ann Simpson of Tulsa, Okla.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Herbert Walls; and a brother, Bill West.
