Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Wayside Cemetery in Wayside with Jeremy Thompson, grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Thompson was a longtime resident of Amarillo and recently moved to Plainview. She was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Thompson of Bedford and Roland Jay Thompson of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Kelly Palmer of Kress; three sisters, Willie Lee Thomas and Juanita Dougan, both of Amarillo, and Virginia Noe of Bremerton, Wash.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. "Jake" Edwards, 91, of Lubbock died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Boggs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in East Mound Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Edwards was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Paducah. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 11, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grace Haines Holt CANADIAN - Grace Maye Robbins Haines Holt, 98, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Michael Kirby, pastor, and Donald Hill, pastor of The River in Canadian, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Holt was born to George and Mary Robbins. George and Mary ran a 10 mile house on the freight line between Glazier and Old Ochiltree Farm and Dairy. Grace moved to Texas in the spring of 1906. She married Harry F. Haines Jr. on May 15, 1938. They farmed in Lipscomb for many years. Harry passed from this life in December 1971. Grace married Ray Holt on June 8, 1990. He died in September 1995. She was a member of Eastern Star and an aide to the home demonstration agent in the war period. Grace was an active member of First Christian Church of Canadian and a Sunday school teacher for 20 plus years. She was a volunteer at Hemphill County Hospital and Edward Abraham Memorial Home. Grace was an all-round lady who was very devoted to her Lord. She was preceded in death by two husbands; and two sons, Harry F. Haines Jr. and Dee Alvin. Survivors include a son, Harold Ray Haines of Canadian; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many, many friends. Mrs. Collier was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Las Cruces, N.M., the daughter of Ernest and Artie Pellam. She married William Collier on March 18, 1946, in Clovis, N.M. She was a homemaker. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Ownsby was born May 23, 1936, in Dodge City, Kan. She had worked for many years as manager at Blair Uniforms. She loved to knit and won many knitting contests. She married Bill Ownsby on July 2, 1972, in Panhandle. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and her father, Bob Rader. Survivors include her husband; a son, Curtis Lepel of Greenville, Fla.; seven daughters, Terry Bertrand, Jeanne McCubbin and Tammy Lepel, all of Amarillo, Sherry Sims of Mobeetie, Megan Lepel of Sunnyvale, Calif., Billie Patridge of Arlington and Ann Scott of Trinidad, Colo.; her mother, Fern Rader of Amarillo; two brothers, Bruce Rader of La Junta, Colo., and Mike Rader of Amarillo; and two sisters, Mona Myers and Marilyn Albert, both of Walsh, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. "Jake" Brown, 87, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in South Padre Island. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with La Von Thompson, pastor of Life of Praise Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born in Merkel. He moved to Amarillo in 1946 from Oklahoma. He served in the Army during World War II, where he received a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He worked as a pipe-fitter for the Texaco Refinery for 32 years, retiring in 1977. He also served as president of operating and engineering of the local pipe-fitters union. Mr. Brown married Sally McMillan in 1940 in Wichita Falls. She died in 1962. He married Modell Usher Gable in 1965 at Amarillo. She died in 2000. Survivors include four daughters, Cindy Brown and Rita Williams, both of Amarillo, Glenda Salvo of Fort Worth and Nora Parsons of East Alton, Ill.; three sons, Ken Brown of Gadsden, Ala., Dennis Brown of El Paso and Jim Gable of Amarillo; a sister, Ruby Kissee of Alaska; a brother, Tunie Brown of Pampa; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. McDowell was born May 5, 1949, in Pampa to Travis and Alice Hazelwood Williams. She went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a drug and alcohol counselor at the Clements Unit in Amarillo. She transferred to the Eastham Unit in 1995 and was a correctional officer. She was a great mother, grandmother and a very good friend to her many friends and co-workers. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Alicia Ann Pierce; a sister, Vivian Ann Shelton; and a nephew, James Travis Shelton.
