Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bovina United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McGuire and the Rev. Gene Hawkins, both of Lubbock, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Roach was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Elk City, Okla., to Earnest and Florence (Reed) Foster. She had lived in the Bovina area since 1930, moving from Turkey. She married James D. "Sonny" Roach on Feb. 10, 1940, in Portales, N.M. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bovina United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 20, 2000. John Henry McWilliams, 94, of Amarillo died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004. Mr. McWilliams was born April 25, 1909, in Pangburn, Ark., to Dora Dove Drake and Lewis Thomas McWilliams, who came to Texas in 1900 by covered wagon. He was the fifth of 10 children who lived to adulthood. He married Iva L. Sanders on May 25, 1929. He began his studies for evangelical, pastoral, and missionary ministries in 1941, graduating from Jacksonville Baptist College in 1946. Fifty-five years of his pastoral ministry included churches in Tyler, Anson, Lubbock, Big Spring, Amarillo, Canyon and Ada, Okla. In recent years, until the age of 92, he spent much of his time as "Head Gardener" at the LX Ranch Headquarters. His last ministry from 1987 until 2002 was spent delivering his tomatoes, sweet corn, okra, squash and black-eyed peas to his homebound neighbors and friends along with spiritual comfort. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; his parents; three brothers, Perry, Emmett and Cecil; three sisters, Frances, Ava and Addie; and one grandson, Brent. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra McWilliams Childers of Amarillo; three sons, Travis McWilliams of Paradise, Calif., Keesee "Hank" McWilliams of Dennison and Joe McWilliams of Cross Plains; two brothers, C.B. Private memorial services were Tuesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Archer was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Amarillo to Branch and Luta Bob Archer. He was a member of a pioneer ranching family from Hansford and Hutchinson counties. During World War II, he served in the Army. He attended Amarillo College, then graduated from University of Texas at Austin and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1952. He practiced family medicine in Amarillo until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of American Academy of Family Practice, Texas Academy of Family Practice and was chief of staff at Northwest Texas Hospital in 1962. He held numerous postitions in the Potter-Randall County Medical Society, Northwest and St. Anthony's hospitals. Dr. Archer married Dorothy Munden in Dallas in 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Branch T. Archer; and a sister, Luta Bob Roberts. He then owned and operated the Ceramic Shoppe for 21 years. She was previously married to George T. Gassaway, who passed away in 1973. They had one son, John T. Gassaway, who passed away in 1981. Ann was a longtime resident and respected businesswoman. She was the business manager for Miami Independent School District from 1975 until retiring in 2002. She was a member of First Methodist Church.
