Mrs. Nelson was born Nov. 25, 1905, in Bell County to John R. Petty and Susan S. Jennings Petty. She married Jack Nelson on June 14, 1922, in Wellington. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Mitchell of Waco and Helen Henard of Lovington, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cubine was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Valentine. Her parents, L.N. and Florence Bridges, later moved with their family to Roby. Then they moved to Knox City, where she graduated from public schools. She attended and graduated from John Tarleton College in Stephenville. In 1928, she came to McLean to teach school. There she met Ercy Cubine. They were married May 24, 1930. She was a devoted homemaker, an active member of McLean Methodist Church and a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; her parents; and two brothers, Jim Bridges and Vernon Bridges. Survivors include a daughter, Floella "Flo" Quattlebaum and husband, Neil, of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Cindy Thomas of Laredo and Kay Taylor of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren, Sara Thomas and Christopher, both of Laredo, and Tiffany Taylor and Trey Taylor, both of Amarillo; and a brother, L.N. Mrs. Russell was born in Lone Oak. She moved to Amarillo in 1976 from California. She was the former owner of dry cleaning businesses in California and Amarillo. Mrs. Russell worked at Williams Cleaners on Amarillo Boulevard until her retirement. She was a very active member of Second Baptist Church. She loved to cook for everyone. She adored all of her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Smith, 79, of Plainview died Friday, March 5, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Main Street Church of Christ with Russell Harris and J.W. Hamby officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore- Rose-White Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born April 23, 1924 in Sterley to Robert W. and Annie Lee Reeves Smith. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1942 and attended Texas Tech University. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines. He married Dorothy Dallas on March 28, 1953, in Tulia and was a Lockney resident until he moved to Plainview in 1991. Farming was his life, and he was a third-generation Floyd County farmer. Mr. Smith was on the Board of Directors for the Floyd County Farm Bureau and Sterley Gin. He was a member of the Lion's Club, Rotary Club and Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview, and had been a deacon at Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney for many years until he moved to Plainview. He was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted husband. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Lee Smith. Survivors include his wife; one son, Dan Smith and wife, Reeda Cay, of Lockney; one daughter, Marilyn White and husband, Charles, of Lynnfield, Mass.; one brother, Howard Smith of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Tikka Smith of Dallas, Michelle Smith of Lubbock, Rebekah White and Abigail White, both of Lynnfield; and numerous nieces and nephew. Mr. McFarland was born Oct. 22, 1984, in Amarillo. He attended school in Clarendon from 1992 until he graduated in 2003. He was a student at Lubbock Christian University, where he was planning on majoring in youth ministry. Mr. McFarland was very involved in his church and youth groups and had taught Sunday school in Clarendon while still in high school. He loved studying his Bible, Christian music and playing baseball. Bryan had a love of life that exceeded his young age. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stephen Lowrie, minister, and Dr. Clifford Dane, minister to senior adults, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Richards was born to B.D. and Ruth Jones Holloway in Homer, La., on Oct. 28, 1923. She became a Christian and was baptized Nov. 9, 1932, at First Baptist Church of Minden, La. She attended schools and graduated from high school in Lousiana. She met Lt. Floyd Holt Richards in Shreveport, La., and they were married April 24, 1944, in the chapel at Barksdale Field in Shreveport. The couple moved to Houston to finish out his active duty in the Air Force. In December 1945, they moved to the Panhandle, making Dalhart their home. Mrs. Richards was an active member of First Baptist Church and in the Adult No.5 Sunday school class. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. Amarillo Globe-News, March 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sidney Merle Jines PERRYTON -- Sidney Merle Jines, 82, died Thursday, March 4, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Kennedy and the Rev. Richard Lafferty officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. Jines was born in a small frame house on a farm in Ochiltree County on May 4, 1921, the son of Sibley and Clieta Jines. In 1924 the family moved to Wolf Creek, a location that enjoyed a natural swimming area, which the family soon converted into a local swimming hole affectionately remembered as "Jines Springs." As a young boy, Mr. Jines helped his mother run the concession stand at the family-run swimming hole. In 1929 the family moved to Perryton, where Sibley opened Sibley Jines Real Estate. Sidney graduated from Perryton High School in 1938. He graduated from the University of Texas on June 5, 1942, where he participated as a member of the University of Texas Marching Band. A day after graduating he enlisted in the Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Prior to serving in Europe, and while stationed in Indianapolis at Fort Benjamin Harrison, he met Carol Marie Asbury at a USO dance. Mr. Jines served with the 11th Armored Division, 3rd Army under the command of General Patton. A participant in the Battle of the Bulge, he was involved in the liberation of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp. On Aug. 26, 1946, Sidney married Carol Asbury at the First United Methodists Church in Rockville, Ind. Shortly thereafter he joined his father in business in Perryton. That business is now named Sibley Jines and Son Real Estate and Insurance. He was a Perryton Jaycee and later a Cub Master and member of the Area Council of the Boys Scouts of America. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Pierce Johnson Post No. 254 and served at various times as the post commander. He also served a term as Vice President of the 11th Armored Reunion. He and his wife of 56 years were members of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Jines was preceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Doris Jines Harlow. Survivors include his wife; children, Larry of Houston, Lanny of South Charleston, Ohio, and Linda of Fort Worth; his daughter-in-law Karen Stute Jines; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Jines-Storey and husband, Blake, Jeremy Calliham and Traci Jines; and great-granddaughter Nola. Georgia St. Mr. Bourg was born in Napleonville, La. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He moved to the Amarillo Air Force Base in 1942. He married Barbara Motch in Amarillo on April 11, 1945. Mr. Bourg was a carpetner and retired from Star Lumber after 32 years of employment. He was a charter member of St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church and a member of the Senior Citizen's Association. He volunteered for many fund- raisers at St. Mary's Catholic School from 1952 until 1971 and served on the board of St. Mary's Credit Union. Mr. Bourg was a respected member of the community who enjoyed helping others. He and his wife enjoyed dancing to the Big Band music of the 1940s. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He joined the Navy prior to World War II. The Pacific remained his station during the war. He later moved to Texas, remaining in the Navy reserves, and completed his work for a bachelor of science degree at Sul Ross University in Alpine. He worked for the U.S. government as well as 20 years for the Texas Employment Commission. He later became an active member of the Reserve Law Enforcement Office. He was active member of the Masonic Order, Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his brother, Harold R. Williams; two sisters, Geraldine Miles and Pauline Thomas; a nephew, James Miles; and a niece, Diana Miles.
