Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ochiltree Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Kennedy, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Perryton, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Witt was born Dec. 12, 1915, to Jess and India Cudd in "Old Ochiltree" south of Perryton. After graduation from high school, Mrs. Witt went to Shattuck, Okla., pursuing a career in nursing at Newman Memorial Hospital. After the death of her mother, she moved back to Perryton and went to work for Dr. G.L. Kengle at Perryton Hospital. She married Vernon Witt on Oct. 8, 1939. After raising her family she returned to the work force as a deputy clerk for Ochiltree County. Mrs. Witt was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for her daughter and then her four granddaughters, which included making prom formals, graduation dresses and wedding dresses. Mrs. Witt was also responsible for the reorganization of Girl Scouts in Perryton in the mid-1950s. She was instrumental in the organization of the Yucca Girl Scout Council, serving as neighborhood chairman for many years and had as many as three troops at one time. She also was involved in the creation of Camp Parnell at Wolf Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Charles Witt; her sister, Esther Overbey and husband, Raymond; a brother, Warren Cudd and wife, Betty; and her stepmother, Garnett Hampton "Hamp" Cudd. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Garvin and husband, Danny, of Canadian; a son, Leslie Witt and wife, Belva, of Perryton; two brothers, Gene Cudd and wife, Frances, of Spearman and Coke Cudd of Perryton; a sister, Betty Neal and husband, S.K., of Perkins, Okla.; six grandchildren, Kristi Garvin-Campbell and husband, Don, of Santa Fe, Danee' Cansler and husband, Kevin, of Hartley, Teresa Honeycutt and husband, Jeff, of Purcell, Okla., Eric Garvin and wife, Tatum, of Amarillo, Mark Witt and wife, Kimberly, of Fort Worth, and Jennifer Turner and husband, Tate, of Perryton; and seven great-grandchildren, Reese Wilson, Kody Cansler, Zach Doty, Ryne Garvin, Wittney Turner, Sawyer Turner and Macey Witt. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Hill was born to Clayton and Frankie Stoker Hill on Aug. 4, 1952, in Kansas City, Kan. J.C. was educated in Canadian and Bryan-College Station. He lived in Canadian most of his life and was a member of The River Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Pruitt married Mary Ruth Pyle on May 27, 1947, in Plainview. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 10, 1987, in Tulia. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Minyard of Savoy and Cheryl Durling of Mustang, Okla.; a son, Ronnie Pruitt of Garden City, Kan.; a brother, Don Pruitt of Plainview; a sister, Sybil Gay of Tulia; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 16, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harvey Carroll Shaw Jr. CLARENDON - Harvey Carroll Shaw Jr., 78, died Monday, March 15, 2004, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Shaw was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Donley County and had been a lifetime resident. He married Joan Hillman on April 2, 1945, in Memphis. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and had been a farmer and rancher most of his life. He will long be remembered for his caring and compassion for his family, friends and others in his community. He particularly loved children and young people. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and placed other's welfare and happiness far above his own. He had served as a board member of Greenbelt Electric Cooperative and for several terms on the ASCS board in Donley County. He was a member of Clarendon VFW Post 7782 and a member of First Baptist Church of Clarendon. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sherry Moore and husband, Terry, of Spearman and Carrie Shaw of Garland; two grandchildren, Billie Jo Pierson and husband, Wayne, of Muleshoe and Shawn Moore and wife, Dynelle, of Virginia; and two great-grandchildren, Megan Pierce and Tobin Pierce. Mrs. Ross taught voice and piano from 1958 to 1987 in Quanah, and then moved to Weatherford. She married Erving G. Ross on June 10, 1931. Survivors include two sons, James Glen Ross of Childress and Jerry Ross of Weatherford; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Stringer was born April 24, 1961, in Dumas. He lived in Moore County most of his life. He was a 1979 graduate of Dumas High School. He attended Baylor University. He was a member of Sunray Baptist Church and was very active in all aspects of the church. He was a member of the Dumas Noon Lions and was active in Emmaus Community. He married Brenda Hicks on March 13, 1999, in Dumas. He was a lifetime farmer before opening Stringers Appliance and Automotive Store in Dumas in July 2003. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dallas Stringer and wife, Heather, of Amarillo, Brock Stringer of Dumas and Austin Hicks of Sunray; two daughters, Alyssa Hicks and Madison Hicks, both of Sunray; his parents, Berkley and Charlotte Stringer of Dumas; two brothers, Reid Stringer of Tallahassee, Fla., and Blake Stringer of Dumas; and a sister, Kendra Beene of Greenville. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Presley was born to Kurt and Juanita (Perez) Becker on Sept. 21, 1918, in Caracas, Venezuela. Mercedes married Oris Presley on April 24, 1943, in Miami. Oris returned to the Panhandle of Texas with his bride after World War II. Mercedes was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who always had time for family, church and community. She was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and had served on the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and other volunteer positions at the church. Mercedes was also active in the Dalhart community. She served as a volunteer at Good Samaritan, was a member of 55 Plus Club, Rhem home extension group and the readers club to name a few. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers; and a son, James M. Presley. Survivors include two sons, Tommy Presley and wife, Donna Faye, of Amarillo and Kurt Presley and wife, Jeaneal, of Dalhart; a daughter, Toni Coke and husband, Corky, of Dalhart; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Andrews was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Perryton and was a lifetime resident. She married Lewis Andrews on Feb. 1, 1968, in Pampa. She was owner/manager of Dutch Inn Motel and Restaurant from 1965 to 1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Perryton. She graduated from Perryton High School in 1939 and from beauty school in 1953. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Davis of Perryton and Bobby Sue Baker of Wheeler; a sister, Wilma "Holly" Schuster of Lubbock; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Turner was born and raised in Amarillo. He married Jane Powell on July 27, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. He served as a drill sergeant in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a truck driver for ICX Trucking and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a private crop dusting pilot and owned Turner Flying Service. He was a member of Amarillo Gun Club. He was preceded in death by a sister, Claudia Winters in 2003. He was retired with the International Union of Operating Engineers as a crane operator for Panhandle Steel Erectors. His life was enriched by his sense of humor, love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing and many friends. He is especially remembered by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller of Amarillo, and many nieces and nephews, especially Mr. and Mrs. Gene Blackiston and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Blackiston. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Medford Blackiston Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah S. Moose and husband, the Rev.
