Mr. McCunn was a computer programmer at Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1985 and he was a Lutheran. Mrs. Fergerson was born July 19, 1934, in Duke, Okla., and had been a resident of Pampa since 1953, moving from Hollis, Okla. She married James Nipp in 1953. She later married Dillon Fergerson on May 11, 1967, in Pampa. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school for the past 45 years. She was a former Meals on Wheels employee and later became a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nipp, in 1962. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by McGee Memorial Chapel Mortuary. Mrs. Carr was a 57-year resident of Santa Fe. She was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, the youngest and last surviving child of Thomas "Jack" and Didama Gaines Warren. She taught speech, English and drama at Santa Fe High School for 35 years. She was an independent spirit, an avid gardener, and continued to live on her own until a month before her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newman J. Carr; a daughter, Sarah Carr Will; her brothers, Clarence, Gaines, and Frank; and her sisters, Addie and Birdie. Survivors include her sons, T.J. Carr of Albuquerque and Cleve N. Carr of Indian Springs, Nev.; her grandchildren, John N. Mrs. Harwood was born April 23, 1907, in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, to William Luther and Abba Rachel Holland. She married Johnny Hoy Lacy on Jan. 15, 1926, in Turkey. After his death, she married Frank H. Harwood on Oct. 26, 1972, in Canyon. She was the owner of a grocery store in Turkey for 30 years. She belonged to Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husbands; seven brothers and sisters; three children; and three grandchildren. Memorial services in Thornton are pending. Arrangements are by Highland Mortuary. Mrs. Skidmore was born March 14, 1920, in Higgins, Texas. For the past year she resided at The Villas at Sunny Acres in Thornton. Previously, she was a longtime resident of Shamrock, Texas, and Lubbock, Texas. In later years, she lived in Snellville, Ga., and Chicago before moving to Colorado. Mrs. Skidmore was a member of First United Methodist Church Church of Evergreen Park in Chicago, Chapter No. 898 Order of the Eastern Star in Lubbock and held a life membership in National Education Association and Texas Education Association. She received her bachelor of science degree from Texas Tech and a master's degree from West Texas State College. She was a teacher in Shamrock and then worked for Texas Department of Human Services in Shamrock and Lubbock before retiring. Mrs. Skidmore, the daughter of James Theodore Guinn and Florence Elizabeth Daily Guinn, married Owen Bueford Harvey Jr. in 1938. In June 1960, she married Ben Amos Skidmore, who preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Tonn was born to Elmer and Bessie Lee Holloway Bethany Aug. 21, 1924, in Carbon. She grew up in Carbon and graduated from Carbon High School in 1943. She married Leslie E. Tonn on Feb. 17, 1945, in Carbon. She attended Cisco Junior College and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1971. She was a retired teacher, having taught in Rotan and Ropesville. She returned to Eastland in 1987 and moved to Round Rock in 1997. She was also a homemaker and mother and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Eastland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an aunt and uncle, Odell and Emma Bethany. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Nistler was born to Steven Nistler and Susan Nistler in Eden Valley, Minn., on April 24, 1925. He was surrounded by a large loving family his entire life as he had nine brothers and four sisters. He also enjoyed the love of both his wife, Mary Ellen, and their six children. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served in the 24th Division, 3rd Battalion, 19th Infantry in World War II, prior to entering the construction industry until his retirement from Iowa Beef Packers in 1991. During his early travels building grain elevators across the Midwest, he met his soul mate, Mary Ellen Sill of Emporia, Kan. They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Sept. 24, 1949. They shared 54 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling to see their children, grandchildren and friends. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1980 in Emporia, Kan. A company transfer brought him to Amarillo in 1973. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he and his wife celebrated their faith and the companionship of numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and seven brothers. Amarillo Globe-News, March 21, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernestine Smith Nobles Ernestine Smith Nobles, 96, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 17, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead and Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 5th Ave. and Pierce St. Mrs. Nobles was born June 8, 1907, in Globe, Ariz., to H.E. and Hettie Bennett Smith. The family moved from a ranch to Amarillo on July 4, 1915. Oldest of five children, she was devoted to her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews whom she adored. She married Grady Cleveland Nobles on April 26, 1939. She attended Amarillo schools and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1925. After attending Trinity University in Waxahachie and Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts in New York City, she came home to assist her parents in the management of Talmage Place Apartments. She joined First Presbyterian Church on Dec. 25, 1921. She was active in the church for 84 years. She taught a Sunday school class for 22 years and was head of the Junior Department from 1933 to 1950. She held various offices in the Women's Association: recording secretary 10 years, Circle chairman three times, World Service chairman three years and president two years. She was selected Woman of the Year in 1957 by the United Church Women. She enjoyed the fellowship with members of NUFFS (No One Under 55). She was the youngest member ever to be elected to the Texas P.E.O. Board in 1937 where she served as recording secretary, organizer and second vice president. She organized four chapters, including Chapter AN in Amarillo. She organized the Amarillo P.E.O. Council on May 5, 1938. Initiated in Chapter B and a charter member of Chapter Z, she held six offices in the local chapter, including two terms as president. Chapter Z and the Amarillo Area P.E.O. Council honored her at Founders' Day luncheon in January 2004 for her 75 years of membership and service to the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was active for many years in the Delphian Society. She organized two chapters in Amarillo and two in Pampa. She served as president of several local study groups. She was the sponsor of Alpha Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for 27 years. She became an International Honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi in 1955 and was given an award for achievement in 1957. She became very active in the Amarillo Garden Club, Inc. and served as president from 1957 to 1959 and as president of the Amarillo Council of Garden Clubs from 1962 to 1965. She assisted in organizing three Garden Clubs, including the first black club in Amarillo. She was a member of the building committee and furnishings committee of the Amarillo Garden Center. She served as volunteer rentals chairman for 22 years to open the Garden Center for weddings, receptions and many other occasions. Other memberships included life memberships in the Y.W.C.A., Amarillo Garden Center and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society; International Club; and the Amarillo Republican Women's Club where she served as legislative chairman for three years. She was recognized by the American National Red Cross for service performed in the Hospital Dressing Corps in World War II. She received a Certificate of Appreciation for Exceptional Assistance in the Amarillo Air Base Beautification Program from Major General, USAF Commander D.O. Montieth on Aug. 30, 1963. Her hobbies included china painting, needlepoint, monogram embroidery and smocking. She remained actively interested in reading and studying politics due to extensive world travel. Ernestine Smith Nobles had a life lived well - a life dedicated to family, church, friends and service to the community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 26, 1970; a sister, Wilda Gosnell of Denver; and a brother Henry D. Smith of Amarillo. Survivors include her sister, Lois Conway of San Francisco; a brother, Earl T. Smith and wife, Suzanne, of Amarillo; three nephews; and five nieces, including T. Sue LaFon and husband, Henry, of Amarillo. She is dearly loved by them. The body will not be available for viewing. Mr. Allen was born in Amarillo Oct. 19, 1951. He attended public school in Amarillo and New York City and also attended Andrew Jackson High School in Jamaica, N.Y., where he excelled in track and field and won many trophies. He was a masterful mathematician and mentor for many young children. He attended Georgia State College in Atlanta and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. Survivors include his wife, Burnadette Kariem; his father, Allen D. Turner Jr. and wife, Vivian, of Columbus, Ohio; five children, El-Amin Kariem, Burnadette Kariem, Aesha Kariem, Amir Kariem and Shamika Kariem, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren; a sister, Gail Heron of Columbus; two aunts, Lillie Mitchell of Amarillo and Carol La Rue House of Columbus; two uncles, James Leon Turner of Albuquerque, N.M., and Earnest Turner of Oklahoma City.
