Barry Loving, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Ethan had been a resident of Pampa since Jan. 5, 2004, where he attended Pampa Middle School. He was a member of First Christian Youth Group in Pampa. "Dopey" Winborne, 68, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cornerstone Worship Center with Paul Nachtigall, minister, officiating. Mr. Winborne was born March 13, 1936, in Pampa. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers. Survivors include two children, Christina Hoskins and Chester Winborne, both of Pampa; four brothers, Bob Winborne of Sherman, Johnny Winborne of Pampa, Chuck Winborne of Lima, Ohio, and LaRoy Winborne of Columbus, Ohio; six sisters, Beth Bates of Iowa Park, Virginia Patterson of Denton, June Ruthardt of White Deer, and Judy Mitchell, Phylis Botford and Erma Reeves, all of Sadler; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Hedley to Martin Harvey and Elvie Kizzy Bell. She was the first of eight children. Her family moved to Amarillo in 1923. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1930. After graduation she worked in Pampa for JC Penney and returned to Amarillo to work at First National Bank. She married Arthur C. "Tommy" Thompson of Hereford on Jan. 14, 1942, in Clovis, N.M. Edith loved her garden, yard and home. She and her husband, along with their daughter, enjoyed traveling and camping out and their vacation home in Cokedale, Colo. She and her husband took many trips with the Shriners overseas and in the United States. She was a charter member of St. Paul Methodist Church, a volunteer for St. Anthony's Hospital and a member of Caring Christians Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; a daughter, Sharon Kay in 1970; her parents; and two brothers, M.H. Bell and Robert W. Bell. Survivors include a brother, Dick Bell of Amarillo; four sisters, Jackie Caputo of Horseshoe Bay, Ruth Kopp and Nell Hodges, both of Amarillo, and Betty Gay Davis of Lubbock; nine nephews; 11 nieces; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mrs. Paxton was born in Tulia and was a lifetime resident of Amarillo. She graduated from the University of Colorado on a music scholarship and was an accomplished violinist. She was very interested in current events and politics and was very patriotic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Paxton in 2001; and three brothers, Lawrence Tucker, David Tucker and Gildroy Tucker. Survivors include a daughter, Temple Dockery of Dallas, and her daughters, Michele Dockery and Julie Dockery, both of McKinney; a son William Allen Paxton and wife, Mariya, and their daughter, Helen Paxton, all of Arlington; a nephew, Matt Tucker of Dallas; a niece, Val Goodman of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; two great-nieces, Jordan Elizabeth Goodman and Hayley Goodman, both of Pagosa Springs; and a sister-in-law, Sue Tucker of Amarillo. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jones was born to James and Murtle Sissom on Jan. 28, 1924, in Holdenville, Okla. She moved to Anadarko, Okla., at the age of 9 and then moved to Amarillo in 1950. She married Orris E. Jones in 1953. She became a member of Second Baptist Church in 1955. Survivors include her husband; a son, Bobby Jones of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Troy Allen of Austin and Natalie Suzanne of Seattle; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 16, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- William "Billy" Mix Phillips William "Billy" Mix Phillips, 73, of Amarillo died Tuesday, April 13, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, minister, and the Rev. Jim Brown, minister of Monterey Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Citizen's Cemetery in Clarendon by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Phillips was born in White Deer on May 21, 1930. He attended schools in White Face, Klondike and graduated from Lelia Lake High School in 1948, where he was active in basketball and track. He attended Clarendon Junior College in 1950, where he was awarded a scholarship in boxing and basketball. He married Margie Nell Crofford at Martin Baptist Church on June 21, 1950. They spent 50 of their 53 plus years together in Amarillo. He was employed with the Postal Service for 36 years as a carrier. There, he received a million-mile safe driving award and recognition for superior service. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association and sang in a quartet at the Texas State Letter Carriers Convention. He sang with the Panhandle Singing Men before he became ill. While employed with the Postal Service, Bill also served as a music minister, serving more than 50 years of full-time and interim work in many Baptist churches throughout the Texas Panhandle, one being the First Baptist Church of Claude, where he served for 15 years. During that time, many muscial programs were done by the choir. He also served as director of the senior adult ministry for Amarillo Baptist Association. He received the honor of doing music at the Old Fields Baptist Church in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina on the 200th year anniversary. Many of his ancestors were ordained to the ministry or were active in this church. In 1952, Bill and his wife, Margie, were instrumental in helping start a Baptist mission in Burlington, Colo., which is now First Southern Baptist Church of Burlington. We would like to extend out sincere thanks and appreciation for the support given to us during Bill's illness. The prayers, visits, calls, cards, food and flowers from all of our friends have been graciously given from hearts of love and caring. May God bless each of you in an extra special way. The family would also like to extend a special thanks for Bill's doctors and nurses at BSA Hospital and BSA Hospice for the tender care and support they showed us at this time. God blessed Bill with the gifts of music and a love for people. Both of these gifts will touch many lives for years to come. He was a great son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend. Most of all, he loved the Lord. He was preceded in deah by his father, the Rev. Ernest A. Phillips in 1961; his mother, Maybelle Weddle Phillips in 1968; a brother, Ralph Alfred, Marines, in 1958; and a sister, Mayrene Hearn in 1985. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marla Gail Johnson and husband, Tommy, of Oklahoma City; a son, Bradley Mix Phillips of Amarillo; a brother, Tommy Phillips and wife, Ruth; three grandsons, Michael Brett Shadix of Oklahoma City, and Bradley Bates and Justin Taylor Phillips, both of Amarillo; two stepgrandsons, Anthony and Stevie Johnson; five nephews; and four nieces. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Hoynacki was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Breckenridge. She married Max Hoynacki on Aug. 18, 1959, in Tucumcari, N.M. Jerry worked as a secretary and office manager at American General Life Insurance. She was a member of Olsen Park Baptist and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Her highest accomplishment was as a devoted wife and mother. Survivors include her husband; two sons, John Washburn and Don Washburn, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Vicki Lynn Bower of Parkersburg, W. Va.; three sisters, Pauline Dunlap, Ruby Lee Meckley and Georgie Smith, all of Amarillo; a brother, Paul Harriss of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Adrian with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Callstrom was born in Cannon Falls, Minn., on April 21, 1920. As a young man, he moved to San Diego and served in World War II in Hawaii and Korea. He worked as an inspector for Convair Aircraft. He married Marjorie Haun of Yuma, Ariz., in 1955. In the 1970s, he moved to Adrian and built a motel along historic Route 66. "Grandpa Kenny" enjoyed billiards, bowling and ping pong and won may trophies over the years. His passion was construction work and he built many homes and businesses in California and Texas. He loved fishing and building things with his grandkids by his side. Everyone he met adored him. He always made everyone smile. He will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery Gurski in 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Schwartz; and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. James Ralph Carroll.
