May Kenneth C. May, 86, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 24, 2004. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. May was born to Robert C. and Iva Grace May in Canadian on May 16, 1917. He began working for Santa Fe Railway in Canadian in 1937 as an apprentice operator. He retired as superintendent of the Plains Division in Amarillo in 1980. He married the former Peggy Walker on March 1, 1947, in Memphis. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and a member of McDavid Sunday school class. He served on the administrative board and also served as an usher for many years. Survivors include his wife; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy May of Albuquerque, N.M. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Prayer services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Pat Carathers of St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church officiating. Mrs. Bolte was born in Umbarger. She married Siegfried Bolte in Umbarger in 1955. She ran restaurants in Umbarger, including the Rhinegold Restaurant, for more than 35 years. She was a loving person to everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Brockwell of Umbarger; a son, Jimmie Brockwell of Longview; two sisters, Emmie O'Dell of Amarillo and Christine Koch of Temple; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in East Amarillo Church of Christ with Fred Riley, minister, and Cecil Burch officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Bates was born in Amarillo and had been a lifetime resident. She began a 32-year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator and retired as a clerk. Mrs. Bates was a member of Weight Watchers since 1970 and of Telephone Pioneers. She was also a member of East Amarillo Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She married Jay Bates on Feb. 17, 1950, in Lubbock. The family wishes to express appreciation to BSA Hospice, Dr. Clarkson and Dr. Guttenplan for their care. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 26, 2003; and two brothers, Oscar Theodore Allen and Billy M. Allen. Amarillo Globe-News, April 27, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Cecil Russell PANHANDLE - Cecil Russell, 88, died Saturday, April 24, 2004. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Panhandle Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Matsler of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Russell died at home with his family by his side. He was born in Nacogdoches County on Nov. 29, 1915, to Martha Tynes Russell and Robert E. Russell. He moved to Panhandle when he was 6 years old. Cecil was employed by C.C. Camp during World War II. He retired from Panhandle Butane and Oil, where he worked for several years, in the late 1980s. Cecil was raised a Master Mason on Dec. 10, 1947, serving 57 years in Lodge No. 1167. During this time, he was Worshipful Master from 1971-1972 and 1996-1998. He was awarded the Golden Trowel award in 2002. Cecil loved to fish and spend time with friends and family. He never met a stranger or turned down someone in need. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; and two sons, Joe Russell and David Russell. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Snider and husband, Don, of Pampa; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many other close family members and friends; and a special nurse, Marcia Carter. The family will be at 310 E. 10 St. following the graveside service. Entombment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Hunter was born April 12, 1916, in Mangum, Okla., to Henry L. Parker and Amma L. Gray Parker. She married W.L. "Bill" Hunter on Sept. 19, 1938, in Oklahoma City. Survivors include a brother, Harold Parker of Mangum. Mrs. Hartline was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Ellis County to Oscar and Martha Caloway. She was retired from the home health-care nursing industry. Amarillo Globe-News, April 27, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cecil R. Hahn PAMPA - Cecil R. Hahn, 83, died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bible Church of Pampa with the Rev. Bob Banks, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Hahn was born June 27, 1920, in St. John, Kan. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in England and Germany with the rank of sergeant during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Opal Sidebottom in 1947 and she preceded him in death. He later married Joyce Scott on June 24, 2003. He owned and operated Hahn Building Supply in Ulysses, Kan., from 1960 to 1971. He was a resident of Amarillo from 1971 until moving to Pampa in 2003. He was a member of Lions Club and was past District Governor. He attended Bible Church of Pampa and was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Celia Polster and husband, Dennis, of Conway, Ark.; three sisters, Eleanor Ruscoe of Stafford, Kan., Stella Crouse of Deltona, Fla., and Margery Clark of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandchildren, Brad West of Butler, Pa., and Wendy West of Hattieville, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews, including Betty Frye of Pampa. Ms. Phipps was born July 15, 1938, to Dudley and Ruth Monk Phipps in Wellington. She was a longtime teacher for the Grand Saline School District. Masonic rites will be by Masonic Lodge No. 1009. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Harvey was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Willow, Okla. He was a Dumas and Moore County resident since 1950. He married Mary Jane Gossett on June 6, 1942, in Sayre, Okla. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and longtime member of Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 in Dumas. He retired as a real estate broker from Harvey's Real Estate. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, serving in the Pacific Theater. He received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and various campaign medals. He was middleweight boxing champion of the Pacific Theater. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 22, 2003. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Harvey and wife, Lyndall, and Sammy Harvey and wife, Shirley, all of Fritch; two daughters, Terri Harvey and Paula Snyder and husband, Jimmy, all of Dumas; a sister, Claudia Hankins of Magalia, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Byrd was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Vinson, Okla. She had been a bookkeeper for Byrd Truck Repair Co. in Tucumcari. After leaving Amarillo, they moved to Cuba, N.M., where they lived happily before relocating to Arlington. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who was active in every community in which they lived. She will be greatly missed.
