May Kenneth C. May, 86, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 24, 2004. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today in Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. May was born to Robert C. and Iva Grace May in Canadian on May 16, 1917. He began working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Canadian in 1937 as an apprentice operator. He retired as superintendent of the Plains Division in Amarillo in 1980. He married the former Peggy Walker on March 1, 1947, in Memphis. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and a member of McDavid Sunday school class. He served on the administrative board and also served as an usher for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman May of Albuquerque, N.M., and Burrell May of Canadian; and a grandson, Keith Warren of Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynn Warren and husband, Tom, of Sugarland; a sister, Bea Reid of Borger; a grandson, Kevin Warren of Hurst; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy May of Albuquerque. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, Panhandle Chapter, 2200 W. Amarillo Globe-News, April 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bonnie Witt King Bonnie Witt King, 100, of Pflugerville, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 24, 2004. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Bishop Emeritus L.T. Matthiesen, Monsignor James C. Gurzynski and Monsignor Francis Smyer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. King was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Wheeler County, the sixth of nine children born to John and Paralee Witt. Bonnie met her husband, William H. King, while working in Amarillo, where they made their home and raised four children. During that time Bonnie was active in Home Demonstration Clubs, Federated Music Club, Catholic Study Club and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Mary's Parish. After the death of her husband in 1954, she became a licensed medical and X-ray technologist and hospital administrator. She worked at Groom Memorial Hospital for eight years. Following her retirement, Bonnie took up Bible study and oil painting. She moved from Groom to Austin in 1975, continuing her art and Bible studies. She was active in Legion of Mary, Scripture study, the School for Spiritual Growth and Inter Healing and served as eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Parish in Austin. She was also instrumental in the organization of Mercy of God Prayer Center and participated in several civic organizations with the Senior Citizens. In 1991, Bonnie moved back to Amarillo to the Amarillo Good Samaritan Retirement Center, later known as the Canyons Retirement Center, where she lived for five years. She transferred to St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Waco and subsequently to the Pflugerville Care Center. Foremost in her long life was service to God and faith to Him. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 27 years; three brothers, C. Bryan Witt, Griffith S. Witt and John L. Witt; five sisters, Eugenia Chandler, Sarah Smith, Lita Witt, Stella Carver and Margaret Arnett; two adopted brothers, Tom Graves and John V. London; two great-grandchildren; two nephews; and two nieces. Survivors include two sons, Joseph A. King and wife, Gertrud, of Kemp and James B. King and wife, Evelyn, of Amarillo; two daughters, Rita Hoehn and husband, Bill, of Graham and Anne Winter of Pflugerville; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, April 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Ellie Jane Wilkinson CLARENDON - Ellie Jane Wilkinson, 92, died Monday, April 26, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with Dr. Genoah Goad, pastor of First Baptist Church in Howardwick, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mrs. Wilkinson was born March 14, 1912, in Altus, Okla. She was a resident of Nunn, Colo., for 21 years before moving to Clarendon 21 years ago. She married George Alton Wilkinson on Jan. 28, 1933, in Erick, Okla. She and her husband were wheat farmers in Montana and Colorado for much of their life before retirement. They were active in the homemade crafts business in Colorado and were avid world travelers. They were charter members of Clarendon VFW Post 7782 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Wilkinson was well known for her homemade candles and other items which she enjoyed delivering to various people within the area, especially during the Christmas season. She was also very involved for many years in Donley County Senior Citizens Association in Clarendon. She was a Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 2, 1988; three sisters; two brothers; and a nephew. Survivors include two brothers, Alec Walker of Pine Grove, Calif., and George C. Walker of Wheeler; numerous nieces and nephews including, from the Panhandle area, Bill Walker of Briscoe and Nancy Davis of Howardwick; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-great-nieces and nephews, who were all very special to her. Casket bearers include Dan Davis, Don Davis, Jamie Walker, Chad Knight, Dusty Walker and Stephen Horton. Honorary pallbearers include her great-great- nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Seale, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hill was born March 19, 1913, in Flippin, Ark. She had been a resident of Hall and Donley counties most of her life. She married Orvel Otto Hill on Dec. 22, 1929, in Mountain Springs, Cook County. She had worked as a grocery clerk much of her life before retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 4, 1987; a son, Benny Boyce Hill; all of her siblings; and two grandchildren. Survivors include three sons, Bill Hill of Clarendon, Bob Hill of Inglewood, Colo., and Jerry Hill of Fort Worth; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Novak was a member of First United Methodist Church of Spearman. He was past president of Hansford County Farm Bureau Board, was past president and served on the Palo Duro River Authority from 1976-2002 and served on the Hansford Soil and Water Conservation District Board from 1973-2002. He was a member of Hansford Masonic Lodge No. 1040 AF&AM. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Sharan David of Medina, Mary Ellen Sager of Balko, Okla., and Patricia Gabriel of Crown Point Ind.; a sister, Louise Turner of Quanah; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Metzger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery. Mr. Cotney was born in Martha, Okla., on July 16, 1930. He married Mary Lou Garoutte in Stratford on June 21, 1951. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a past member of Stratford Masonic Lodge. He served in the Army in the late 1940s. He farmed and operated C&C Texaco Products for 25 years. He loved baseball, golf, tennis, fishing and dancing. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kim Loerwald and husband, Donnie, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kay Cotney and friend, Nelson Williams, of Amarillo; a son, Kevin Yale Cotney and wife, Brenda, of Amarillo; a sister, Anna Mae Norris of Wichita, Kan.; a granddaughter, Erica Jordan Loerwald of Albuquerque; and a grandson, Dax Ryan Loerwald of Albuquerque. "Red" Hope, 72, died Monday, April 26, 2004, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bible Baptist Church in Borger with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Hope was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He married Mary Belle Hill on Feb. 16, 1951, in Lovington, N.M. He was preceded in death by a son, Mack Hope on May 6, 1971. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Hope and Mark Hope, both of Stinnett; eight daughters, Linda Compton of Houston, Vicki Hartman and Judy Lewis, both of Amarillo, Peggy Isaacs, Sherry Sloan and Kristie Casey, all of Borger, Denise Webb of Fritch and Darla Garcia of Spearman; two brothers, Ken Hope of Hominy, Okla., and Gerald Hope of Sweetwater; a sister, Betty Jackson of Cabot, Ark.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Leighnor was raised in Guymon, moving to Longdale 12 years ago. He loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, motorcycling or gardening. Survivors include his mother, Grace Goodman of Longdale; a sister, Norma Sue Walkup of Washington, Okla.; and a brother, Faron Leighnor Sr. of Guymon. Mr. Campbell was born April 27, 1913, near Elmwood. He married Olive Gail Rock on March 22, 1941, in Beaver. Survivors include three sons, William Tim Campbell of Guymon, Terry Lynn Campbell of Bixby and Charles Logan Campbell of Glenpool; a brother, Leslie Campbell of Beaver; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Watts was born Oct. 6, 1958, in Odessa to Sue and Gerald Watts. She attended Tascosa High School in Amarillo, graduating in 1977. She attended Amarillo College, Houston Community College and was currently a pre-med student at Texas Tech University. She worked as a radiographer at numerous medical facilities across Texas. Glyna was a bright, loving, thoughtful person who will be missed so much by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include her mother, Sue Roberson of Lubbock; her father, Gerald Watts and wife, Yvonne, of Tyler; a brother, Mike Watts and wife, Julie, of Lubbock; two nieces, Stephanie and Haley, both of Lubbock; a nephew, Sean Ryan of Kansas City, Mo.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and her four dogs, Barbara, Bernice, Ellie and Chow.
