Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Hale was born in 1915 in Gober to William Love Hale and Annie Mae Hopwood. The family moved to Lorenzo when he was a year old and then moved to Lubbock in 1927. James graduated from Lubbock High School in 1934. He then attended Texas Tech University for two years. In 1936, he married his high school sweetheart, Sybil Theodora McLarry. They lived in Lubbock until the birth of their daughter, Karen Sue, in 1942. Then they moved to Dallas where Rayburn worked at North American Aircraft. After the war, he joined Southwest Wheel Inc., in Dallas, but in 1949, he transferred to Memphis, Tenn., with the compnay. Rayburn and his family then returned to Dallas in 1957 and settled in the University Park Area. At this time, Rayburn founded Prior Gaskets Inc., where he was vice-president until his retirement. The family were members of University Park United Methodist Church, where their daughter, Karen Sue, married William Allen Vandivere in 1965. After the death of Sybil, Rayburn moved to Amarillo to the Craig Methodist Retirement Community to he near Karen Sue and his family. He was a member of Sons of the Republic of Texas, Maxwell Society, Sons of the Confederacy, Sons of the American Revolution and Texas Society War of 1812. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; his older brother, William Love Varnell; his twin brother, Robert Haven Hale; and an infant brother, James Presley. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue; a granddaughter, Amy Diane Vandivere; a grandson, Allen Hale Vandivere; a niece, Diedra Hunnicutt; and two nephews, Gary Hale and William Varnel Hale II. Brawley, 77, of Amarillo died Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jackie Finley of Christian Lighthouse Church officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum. Mrs. Brawley married Hubert E. Brawley in 1942 in Memphis, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brawley was a good Christian woman and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband in June 2003; a son, Royce Brawley; and a daughter, Louise Brawley. Survivors include two daughters, Ann Jobe and husband, Leroy, and Irene McDonald and husband, Tommy, all of Amarillo; a son, H.E. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Higgins; and a sister, Nina Mitchell. Gary Pastwa, associate pastor of Bible Believer's Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Beardsley was born in Livingston and raised in DeQueen, Ark. She married Robert Stanley Beardsley on June 28, 1978, in Amarillo. She worked at several nursing homes in Amarillo as a nurse until her retirement. She was a very loving person who will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Tollett of Borger; a son, Walter R. Perry Hunsaker, associate pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Channing Cemetery in Channing. Mr. Amason was born June 17, 1929, in Channing to Luther and Hazel Amason. He retired after working for many years for ICX. He joined Gruver Masonic Lodge No. 1326 on Aug. 21, 1950, and transferred his membership to Amarillo Palo Duro Lodge in 1964. There he received a 50-year Service Award from the Grand Lodge of Texas on Aug. 19, 2000. On May 7, 1966, he became a member of Khiva Shriners. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jo Fisher and Mary Lou Every. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Lee Heyland and husband, Bob, of Abilene, Susan Lynn Revill and husband, Jim, of Frost and Delphia Anne Moore and husband, Clay, of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, John Amason and wife, Linda; five grandchildren, Tara Lee Gans, Erin Revill, Jordan Revill, Ryan Moore and Allie Moore; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moore lost her battle to cancer on Sunday in Dallas. Mrs. Moore was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Dallas. She and her family lived in Amarillo for 30 years. She worked for First Presbyterian Church for many years. Mrs. Moore was married to Billy Locke Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; and a grandson, Todd Erwin. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Bonita McDowell and husband, Jerry, of Dallas and Terry Hoddinott and husband, Haynes III, of Virginia; her mother, Ellen Dunaway of Dallas; a brother, Wayne Smith and wife, Sherry, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Michele Erwin-Erke, Cody Locke Moore, Brice McAlister and George Hoddinott IV; and a great-granddaughter, Mariah Sage McAlister. Amarillo Globe-News, April 29, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Movelda Irene Vernon Fortenberry FRIONA - Movelda Irene Vernon Fortenberry, 86, died Monday, April 26, 2004, in San Antonio. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Fortenberry was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Olney to Richard and Kate Vernon. She grew up in Happy with her brother, William Clovis, and a sister, Anita Jo. She graduated from Happy High School in 1935. She attended West Texas State College in Canyon and Holmes School of Business in Amarillo. She married James Paul Fortenberry in Louisville, Ky., on June 16, 1942. Shortly after their wedding, Paul was shipped overseas during World War II. Movelda worked as a secretary to the manager of the Amarillo Building. After the war, they lived in Phillips where Paul worked for Phillips Petroleum. Their first son, James Richard, was born June 12, 1946. They moved to Friona in 1949 from Phillips, where they purchased the Phillips Wholesale Dealership. Their daughter, Paula Ann, was born Aug. 13, 1951, and a younger son, Don Wayne, was born Nov. 20, 1952. Movelda was the comsumate homemaker. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. Her life's work was taking care of her husband and children. After Paul's retirement, they enjoyed traveling, taking many tours of the United States and numerous cruises. Movelda and Paul loved to travel to Odessa and San Antonio to take part in the activities of their four grandchildren. They never missed an important game or recital. Movelda and Paul moved to San Antonio in 1999 and lived there until their deaths. They loved and missed all their dear friends from Friona and the Panhandle. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; a son, Richard; and her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Sturm and husband, Jay, of San Antonio; a son, Don Fortenberry and wife, Phyllis, of Odessa; her four precious grandchildren, Beau Jayson Sturm of Dallas, Zachary Paul Strum of Austin, James Ryan Fortenberry of San Marcos and Kara Jo Fortenberry of Lubbock; a sister, Anita Jo Anderson of Canyon; two sisters-in-law, Lonas Wright of Canyon and Bobbie Fortenberry of Amarillo; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friends. Vanya Neeley, pastor of Abundant Life Fellowship, officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Hamby was born Sept. 23, 1946, to William Truman and Lillian Jarrad Hamby in Shamrock. He served his country as an airborne solider in the Army for 21 years in various locations. He fought in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. Irwin retired from the Army at the rank of sergeant first class. He married Holli Hood on Jan. 1, 1999, in Amarillo. He attended Abundant Life Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Vera Lorraine Foster. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Herd was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Wheeler to Hammy H. and Gladys Criner Herd. He attended Wheeler schools and graduated from Wheeler High School in 1954. He married Wanda Sue Waters on April 15, 1957, in Amarillo. He joined the Air Force after high school and retired in 1975. He attended Yale University during his service time and served in the Far East and San Angelo. He moved back to Wheeler in 1983 to open and operate Maxey's Steakhouse. He was a member of First Baptist Church and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a grandson, Nathan Sauer. Chuck graduated from Spearman High School and Texas Tech University. He was an engineer for General Dynamics for 10 years before he founded Angles Inc., a landscape construction company, based in Arlington. Chuck was an avid golfer, a member of Texas Tech Alumni Association and First Baptist Church of Dallas. He was married to his wife, Laura Elliott Easton, for 14 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and dear friend, who will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Peggy Elliott; and his grandparents, Roscoe L. After leaving Amarillo, they moved to Cuba, N.M., where they lived happily before relocating to Arlington. She and her husband, Dr. Samuel Fine, were married 62 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who was active in every community in which they lived. She will be greatly missed. Mr. Marsh was raised in Amarillo and graduated top of his class with a law degree from Texas Tech University. He was proud to call the Valley his home for over 30 years.
