Evening services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Trinity Fellowship Church North Ministry Center with Phil Mercado, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Alvarez was born in Amarillo and lived here most of his life. He moved to Lubbock two years ago. He was in the concrete construction business. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nettie Alvarez and Celia and Jesus Flores. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Tony and Mary Alvarez of Lubbock; his mother, Irma Flores of Amarillo; three stepsisters, Alicia Alvarez, Patricia Chavez and Anna Ortiz, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; his grandparents, Wanda and Celestino Alvarez of Lubbock; two sons, Anthony and Isaiah; and a daughter, Stephanie. The family will be at 2908 Detroit. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Roberts was born Sept. 27, 1950, in Davidson, Okla., to Jim and Jackie Roberts. He graduated with a BS in sociology from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree in criminology and law enforcement from Sam Houston State. Mike was an active member of the Lone Star Runners Club, having recently run in the Boston Marathon. He worked for the U.S. Courts for more than 28 years, where he had worked as a pre-trial officer. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Karen Butz on March 13, 1981, in Amarillo. His was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Batterton Roberts in 1971; and his second wife, Jo Ann Stimatze Roberts in 1980. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Chris Roberts of Albuquerque, N.M., Craig Roberts of Waco and Casey Roberts of Amarillo; a daughter, Christi Shortino of Coppell; his mother, Jackie Covington of Mesa, Ariz.; his father, Jim Roberts of Lubbock; a grandmother, Lilian Myers of Rogers, Ark.; two brothers, Mark Roberts of Davidson, Okla., and Monty Roberts of Enid, Okla.; a sister, Mitzi Roberts of St. Johns, Virgin Islands; and a granddaughter, Brooke Renae Shortino. Hughes St. Mr. Skinner was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Hughes Springs to the late Willie Skinner and Pearl Edwards. He was a member of Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Army. He had been employed by Garner Motors, Southwestern Public Service and was self-employed at Jamerson and Skinner Detail Shop for more than 10 years. He retired from John Judd Motors in 1990. Survivors include his wife, Versie; a stepson, Delbert Moore of Amarillo; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Nina Alford of Amarillo; two sisters-in-law, Pearlene Brown and Lillie Miller, both of Amarillo; and a host of relatives and friends. Burial will be in the Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield. Mr. Mendez was an auto mechanic and member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife had lived in Amarillo about four years. Survivors include his wife, Eva; a son, John Mendez of Amarillo; three daughters, Misty Mendez, Van Den Boogerd and Amanda Mendez, all of Amarillo; and two granddaughters. Mrs. Bennett was born July 21, 1903, in Fairfield, Mo. She married Milford Jay Bennett in Kingfisher on Sept. 24, 1924. Survivors include two sons, Daryl Bennett of Beaver and Ronald Jay Bennett of Turpin; three daughters, Fayrene Mayes of Sedalia, Mo., Wylene Arnold of Centennial, Colo., and Judy Woolard of Santa Fe, N.M.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She married Truman Smith in 1927 and they celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death. Survivors include a daughter, Jeannene Cox of Hurst; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
