Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Ms. Nichols was born Feb. 20, 1930, in DeNoya, Okla., to James Cecil and Alyse Beasley Nichols. With 36 years of experience in education, counseling and consulting, Nichols supervised Shared Service Arrangements Fiscal Agents that included Bushland, Wildorado, Walcott, Boys Ranch-Girlstown, Highland Park, Texhoma and River Road school districts. She taught school in Tulia and Amarillo. She was special education director for Canyon ISD and Friona ISD. A graduate of Pampa High School, Nichols earned her bachelor of science and master's degrees in elementary education from West Texas State University, where she earned certification in professional administration. She also did supervisory certification work at Texas Tech University. Nichols launched her elementary education career teaching third grade in Tulia and Amarillo. From that she ventured into school administration, where she spent the majority of her career. She retired in 1988 and was immediately called back to consult with Panhandle school districts through Region XVI Education Service Center and Boys Ranch-Girlstown to work with its homebound instruction program. She had served on a number of national and state boards and organizations including the Alliance of Local Special Education Administrators, Texas Data Acquisition Task Force, Task Force on the Study of Learning Disabilities and the Goodwill Industries board of directors. In 1991, Nichols was inducted into the Texas Special Education Hall of Fame by the Texas Council of Special Education. She also received the Meritorious Service Award from the Texas Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities. Her most recent achievement and award was from the Amarillo Women's Network, when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award for achieving numerous milestones in her professional career over an extended period of time. She was truly a matriarch in special education. Nichols served the community in many volunteer roles as regional coordinator for the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education, treasurer for Potter County Chapter of Soroptimist International, vice-president of Alpha Delta Kappa and president of Texas Council of Administrators of Special Education. She had been selected as Educator of the Year and was listed in Who's Who in American Education. The Amarillo Globe-News honored her as a Good Neighbor in 1994. She organized the Soroptimist Committee to establish a library for cancer victims and survivors at Harrington Cancer Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with The Venerable Patsy Masterman, deacon emeritus, officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland, Md. Mrs. Parker was born Dorothy Thomaseenia Herriott on Jan. 31, 1915, in New York. She was a graduate of Miner Teachers College in Washington, D.C., and taught elementary school for more than 35 years, primarily in Philadelphia. She met and married Albert F. Parker in 1947. Following her retirement, she moved to Amarillo to join her daughter and grandchildren. She loved teaching and volunteered many hours to help the children she loved get the extra help they needed to overcome learning disadvantages and become proficient learners. She was the recipient of numerous teaching awards and was recognized throughout her teaching career as a master educator. Mrs. Parker was active in many teaching organizations until her retirement. She loved to travel, enjoyed cooking and reading, as well as teaching. She was always an active member of the Episcopal Church and most recently had been a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents, Randall Herriott and Dorothy V. Herriott Scott. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Lynda M. Burial will be at 10:15 a.m. in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Hornstra was born in Springfield, S.D., to John and Sadie Hornstra and had lived in Amarillo since 1946. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He was the in 90th Division, 359th Infantry under General George Patton. His division landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day +3. He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Blasingame on Nov. 2, 1942, in Breckenridge. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He worked for Crowe-Gulde Cement as block foreman and later went to Panhandle Concrete. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Ted Hornstra; and a sister, Gertrude Steckler. Survivors include a son, John Hornstra and wife, Lola, of Amarillo; a daughter, Carol Foster of Amarillo; two grandsons, Chris Hornstra of Amarillo and James Hornstra and wife, Anna, of Katy; a sister, Vivian Hubner and husband, Cal; a sister-in-law, Jennie Hornstra of Avon, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, May 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ada Farnsworth Webb Ada Farnsworth Webb, 93, of Amarillo died Saturday, May 22, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. At Ada's request, this will be the only service on her behalf. She fulfilled a longstanding commitment to donate her body to science at Texas Tech Medical School. Mrs. Webb was born March 31, 1911, in Anson. She graduated from Anson High School in 1929, then attended North Texas University to obtain a temporary teaching certificate. She started her 33-year teaching career in the Oak Grove Community of Jones County, near Anson. By teaching and attending college part- time for several years, she obtained her BA from North Texas in 1938. She received her M.Ed. from West Texas A&M University in 1954. She married Boyd Marshall Webb of Borger on Sept. 29, 1940. Mrs. Webb taught third grade in Amarillo from 1954 through 1975, including at Sanborn, Wilson, Coronado and South Georgia elementary schools. She also served the teaching community for decades as a member, officer, and president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She served Westminster Presbyterian Church in many ways, including as moderator of Presbyterian Women in 1979, as an elder from 1984 to 1986 and as a delegate to many church conventions. She received the Woman of Faith award from the church in 1989. She was an officer and president of Church Women United of Amarillo. She supported the Presbyterian Children's Home in Amarillo for decades. Amarillo College established a scholarship in her name in the 1990s, which continues to benefit students there. She was the eldest child of seven of Eva Fowler Farnsworth and Edward E. Farnsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 20, 1965; her brother, Staff Sgt. Elmer Lee Farnsworth; and a sister, Susie Mildred Hudson. Survivors include two sisters, Mary M. McBride of Round Rock and Eva G. Sage of Dallas; two brothers, John E. Farnsworth of Anson and Bill F. Farnsworth of Bella Vista, Ark.; a son, David F. Webb of Houston; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Roehl of Pearland and Alexander D. Webb of San Antonio. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1981, where she worked for Daylight Donuts for 10 years. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 15, 1996. Mr. Bryan was born June 10, 1925, in Merkel, the son of Tom and Ethel Bryan. He married Wilma Thompson on Aug. 28, 1940, in Paducah. Mr. Bryan was a veteran, having served in the Army during World War II. He owned and operated Bryan Trucking for several years and worked in the automotive sales and service industry for many years. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Avenue Baptist Church of Hereford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; a son, Doug Bryan; a brother, Billy Bryan; and a sister, Lois Roper. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery. Mr. Tipton was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Big Spring to the late Silby and Faye Beal Tipton. He moved to Coleman as a small child and attended school in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School in 1954. Gene served his country in the Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1958, he married Sandra LeBlanc in Shamrock. He worked all of his life in the oil field and pipeline construction. He moved to Canyon three years ago. While living in Coleman, he was a member of Central Baptist Church and at the time of his death was a member of San Jacinto Baptist in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three children, Carolynn Tipton of Coleman, Robert Tipton of Cochise, Ariz., and Shanna Tipton of Canyon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, A.W. Sharp LUBBOCK - Larry Sharp, 98, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, May 24, 2004. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Hesse of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. Sharp was born Nov. 23, 1905, in Perry Township, Ohio. He spent his adult life as a commercial artist and at one time was employed as the first designer of educational exhibits for the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies at Oak Ridge, Tenn. In 1952, he won the international award of Display World, a trade journal for display designers. He owned Pro Signs on sixth Street in Amarillo for many years and was recognizable by his black beret. Those who knew him realized he was one of a kind. He will be missed by his family and his many friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred, in 2002. Survivors include a sister, Mary Folsom of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a son, Wesley Sharp of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Melinda Douglas of San Diego and Karen Levesque of Ottawa, Canada; six grandchildren, Kerry Lionadh of Ottawa, Maria Lineker of Craig, Alaska, Michael Sprouse of Seattle, Angela Kay Krasny of Brooklyn, N.Y., Tammy Rector of Grove City, Ohio, Michael Sharp of Mount Sterling, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren, Hesperus Lineker, Colton, Taylor and Austin Rector, and Shimon, Avigdor and Nossen Krasny.
