Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Dodson was born April 1, 1913, in Tell to Annie May Crain and Howard Allston Davis. She married Karl W. Cooper on Dec. 20, 1930, in Mangum, Okla. He preceded her in death in March 1971. On Oct. 18, 1974, she married Richard L. Dodson. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1987. She retired after 28 years of employment at Lee Optical. Survivors include a son, Karl and wife, Beverly, of Amarillo; a brother, C.A. Davis of Boston; two sisters, Jo Nikirk of Amarillo and Norma Webb of Ocean Springs, Miss.; her grandchildren, Barry Cooper, Chris Cooper and wife, Rhonda, Brian Cooper and Lanie Caldwell and husband, Chris, all of Amarillo, and Shawn Cooper and wife, Kim, of Elgin, Okla.; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, May 29, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon Recil Johnson Recil Johnson, 87, of Canyon died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in University Church of Christ with David Lough and Bob Shepard, director of Bible chair, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Johnson was born June 7, 1916, in Grandfield, Okla. He married Florine Sandefur in 1938. He was a resident of Canyon for 52 years. During World War II he worked at Lockheed and later ran Buffalo Lake until 1962. He was the former owner of Chaparral Villa mobile park and retired from Randall County Sheriff's Department in 1980. He was a member of University Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Brenda Craven of Tulsa, Okla., and Karel Watkins of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Rowe Cemetery with Bright Newhouse, minister of Hedley Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Fontenot was born April 12, 1927, in Roosevelt County, N.M. She was a resident of Amarillo before moving to Hedley more than 20 years ago. She was a restaurant owner/operator for several years. She had worked for the City of Hedley and for Hedley Senior Citizens Association before her retirement. Survivors include a son, Johnny Lund of Hedley; two sisters, Lois Watson and Wanda Coots, both of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. A service of thanksgiving for life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Duncan, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 20, 1934, to Harper Stewart "Major" and Bess Graham Johnson in State College, Miss. He graduated from Starkville High and Mississippi State College. He married Floyce Jane Shaw on Aug. 4, 1956, in College Hill, near Oxford, Miss. He was a pilot and photo interpreter in the Air Force and then graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky. He served as a mobile minister and pastor at Reserve, Glenwood, Apache Creek, Datil and Quemado, N.M. He was director of Geneva Conference Center for the Synod of Indiana at Rochester, Ind., a civil engineer technician in Indianapolis, then pastor at Canadian. He was a landman and pilot for George Arrington Oil, a pilot for King Drilling, operated the Hemphill County Airport, was a flight instructor, EMT intermediary and retired from America West Airlines as a captain. He served as pastor at Clarendon and was honorably retired from the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2001. Survivors include his wife; his children, Janet Cullender and husband, Jeff, and their children, Patricia and Joey; Steve Johnson and wife, Lisa, and their children, Austin, Lacey, Jet and Emma; Edward Johnson and wife, Renee, and their children, Amber Ford and husband, Chris, and son, Taylor, and Pam Flowers and husband, Charlie, and children, Rhett, Ashley and Erica; Bruce Johnson and wife, Lori, and their children, Brock and Mae, all of Canadian; and Harper Johnson and wife, Cindy, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a brother, H.S. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church in Spearman with the Rev. Todd Dyess and the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Thuett was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Hansford County and was a lifetime resident of the area. She married Robert Thuett, who died in 1994. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Spearman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Montague and Luthera (Jones) Dixon; her husband; and a son, Alan Dixon Thuett in 1968. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Gillispie of Morse; a brother, Perry Dixon of Spearman; two grandsons, Alan Howell of Temple and Robert Howell of Spearman; a granddaughter, Gina Gillispie of Morse; and three great- grandchildren. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Garth Garden at St. John's Episcopal Church by Greenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Stringer was born Jan. 7, 1953, in Tulia and grew up in Amarillo. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his BA with honors and an MSSW. He also received a J.D. from Texas Tech University, where he was a member of the law review. Kenneth began practicing law in 1986, and operated his own practice in Fort Worth in 2002. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and served on the vestry and as chairman of the outreach committee. He worked as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Presbyterian Night Shelter. Kenneth served on the board of directors of the Baden Powell Scout Association and the Foster Park Neighborhood Association. Kenneth was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Survivors include his wife, Sarah; a son, Matthew "Matt" of Fort Worth; his father, T.H. "Pete" Stringer of Amarillo; a brother, Kelly Stringer and wife, Grace, of Amarillo; a sister, Kathy Night and husband, Roger, of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
