Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kingdom Way Ministries with Melvin Walker III, pastor, Peggy Adams, minister, and the Rev. George H. Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mr. Nelms moved to Amarillo in 1991 from Plainview. He was a supervisor for Tyson Foods for the last 12 years. He married Cynthia Ray on July 29, 1991. He was a member of Kingdom Way Ministries. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Starla Nelms of Amarillo; four sons, Bradley Nelms Sr. of Florida, and Stanley Nelms Jr., Franklin Nelms and Curtis Nelms, all of Amarillo; four brothers, Johnny Nelms of Goodman, Kan., James Nelms of Amarillo, Hurbert Thompson of Lubbock and Robert Nelms of California; four sisters, Eileen Johnson of Amarillo, and Doris Rivers, Patricia Anderson and Sally Mae, all of Snyder; and a grandson, Bradley Nelms Jr. of Florida. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Bassett was born in Plemons and attended Borger High School. She lived in Oklahoma City and worked for Lee Way Motor Freight there for 35 years, moving to Amarillo in the early 1980s. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Webb in 1995; her parents, Hardy and Lillie Pitts; three brothers, John O. Pitts, Hardy W. Pitts and James C. Pitts; and four sisters, Leah Potter, Margaret Brooks, Frances Benson and Nell Touchstone. Survivors include a sister, Clara Mae West of Amarillo; a brother, Dr. Robert Pitts of Plainview; and 13 nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Burt was born in Quanah and graduated from high school in Medicine Mound. She married J.L. Burt in Amarillo on June 12, 1948. She moved to Denver in 1954, before moving back to Amarillo in 1990. Doris was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elzie "Sonny" Young in 1984. Survivors include her husband; a son, Bob Burt and wife, Pamela, of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Eugene Young and wife, Anna Lou, of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Brandon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Greer, pastor, and Bob Schroeder officiating. Burial will be private by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Brewster was born to Marjorie Braidwood and Dr. Harry J. Veatch on Jan. 13, 1930, in Pittsburg, Kan., where she grew up. She graduated with honors from the University of Kansas with baccalaureate degrees in fine arts and German. Judy married Arthur S. Brewster on Aug. 23, 1952, in Pittsburg. She was a professional Girl Scout and troop leader in Oklahoma City and Amarillo. She also worked as a legal secretary in Golden, Colo. After retirement, the Brewsters moved to Fort Collins, Colo., and returned to Amarillo in November 2000. Judy had many talents and special interests. She was very active in the Methodist church and taught Kerygma Bible studies for the Presbyterian Church in Golden. She was a student of theology and Bible history. Judy was also a talented oil painter and watercolorist, producing many portraits and nature paintings. She handcrafted intricate ship models and won exhibition prizes for her miniature room displays. She enjoyed many other arts and crafts and loved to read. Judy was fond of the out-of-doors and spent much time and research in nature studies, archaeology, astronomy and hunting and fishing with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mindy Briggs and husband, Doug, of Amarillo; a son, Art Brewster and wife, Treva, of Katy; a sister, Joan Hankammer and husband, John O., of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren, Judy Lynch and Jon Briggs, both of Amarillo, and Ashleigh Brewster and Josh Brewster, both of Katy; a niece, Jennifer Haugh of Topeka; and a nephew, John V. Mr. Gamez was born Nov. 26, 1948, in Hereford. He grew up in Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School in 1968. He married Irma Gonzales on May 22, 1976, in Hereford. He had worked for C.R. Anthony Co. for 23 years, retiring and becoming a liquidation sales consultant. He moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1987 and to Amarillo in 1997. Amarillo Globe-News, June 4, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vivian Duesterhaus Vivian Duesterhaus, 85, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Valdez officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Duesterhaus graduated from Pampa High School in 1936. She married Henry C. Duesterhaus in Sayre, Okla., on July 17, 1938. Vivian was a master bridge player and loved to dance. For more than 65 years, she was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pampa, where she was involved in many activities. She later became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo. Vivian Duesterhaus died peacefully at the BSA Hospice Inpatient Unit in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 24, 1974; and a brother, Kenneth Campbell. Survivors include a son, Dennis A. Duesterhaus of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Davlyn A. Dusterhaus of Amarillo and Diane Dusterhaus of Lubbock; a stepdaughter, Dusty McGuire of Amarillo; and a brother, Don Gough of Dallas. The family will greet friends at the church after the service. He was a decorated veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. Mrs. Long was in charge of the produce department at Ideal Food Stores during World War II. She also worked for the City of Pampa, where she was in charge of the water wells and water towers. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Good News Church in Hereford with the Rev. David Alvarado and the Rev. Noe Marquez officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery in Hereford by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Salazar was born Nov. 6, 1963, in Del Rio the son of Amelia and Moises Salazar Jr. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1980 and was a member of the Whiteface football team. He married Julie Hatchell in Hereford. Mr. Salazar was a veteran, having served in the Army as a sniper with the 82nd Airborne Division. During his tour of duty, he obtained the rank of staff sergeant and was involved with the rescue of the American students in Granada. He was employed as a service advisor with Pilot Point Ford Company of Denton. Survivors include his wife; his parents, Amelia and Moises Salazar Jr. of Hereford; two children, Candy Leal of Corpus Christi and Chris Newsome of Arlington; two brothers, Benjamin Salazar of Hereford and Moises Salazar III of Lewisville; three sisters, Ida Arredondo of Corinth, Jo Elda Rodriguez of Amarillo and Celina Salazar of Hereford; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 4, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Loney Schneider Fiel LIPSCOMB - Loney Schneider Fiel, 87, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Canadian. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lipscomb Union Church with Ronald Schneider officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Fiel was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Lipscomb County to Albert and Matilda Schneider. She married Alex Fiel on Feb. 19, 1936, in Perryton. After marriage they lived on a farm south of Higgins. Later they moved to Oklahoma for a period of time, but ultimately moved to Lipscomb, where she remained for most of her life. She lived in a retirement center in Amarillo for a few years. In 2001, Mrs. Fiel moved to the Edward Abraham Memorial Home in Canadian. Loney was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She loved sewing, reading, playing cards, dominoes and visiting friends. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was the last surviving member of the Schneider family. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Jim Fiel and Jerry Fiel; her parents; three sisters; five brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Oleta Fiel. Survivors include four sons, Jessie Fiel and Sandy Fiel and wife, Kathleen, all of Amarillo, Danny Fiel and wife, Sue, of Prairie Grove, Ark., and Randy Fiel and wife, Tamie, of Canadian; two daughters-in-law, Maudine Fiel and Carol Fiel, both of Amarillo; six grandsons; 13 granddaughters; 28 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
