"Arkie" Walls G.M. "Arkie" Walls, 91, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, died Saturday, June 12, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church in Pampa with John Curry and the Rev. Scott Penrod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa with military rites accorded by the Marine Corps. Mr. Walls was born June 23, 1912, in Crossett, Ark. He came to the Pampa area in 1931 where he resided until moving to Amarillo in 1999. He married Frances Bowers on Oct. 1, 1939, in Elk City, Okla. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving during World War II. He farmed and ranched in Roberts and Gray Counties and had oil and gas interests in the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma. He was a partner in several family oil and gas companies. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pampa and was a member of the Miami VFW Post. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 12, 2003. Survivors include three sons, G.M. Walls Jr. and wife, Diana, of Pampa, Wilbur Walls and wife, Judy, of Lake Tanglewood and Stephen Walls and wife, Diane, of Hurst; four brothers, James Wall and Carroll Wall, both of Crossett, Roy Wall of Ruston, La., and Bill Wall of Aurora, Colo.; four sisters, Gladys Duncan of Phoenix, Pauline Sullivan of Little Rock, Ark., Jimmie Ann Robbins of Houston and Catherine Ford of Hot Springs, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Autumn Smith and husband, J.T., and Trae Walls, all of Pampa, Alicia Walls of Amarillo, Jordan Walls and Chad Tennyson, both of Hurst, and David Philips and Andrea Morris and husband, Justin, all of Amarillo; and two great-grandchildren, Maddie Smith and Ian Smith, both of Pampa. The family suggests memorials be to the VA Nursing Home, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo, TX 79106. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Steber was born in Kilgore and was a former employee of Gilvin-Terrill, Ltd. He was an Amarillo resident for more than 30 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Evelyn Timmons of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Doris Horn and Johnnie Watson, both of Houston, and Jewel Sanders of Kilgore; two brothers, Lincoln Steber of Houston and Paul Steber of Kilgore; six grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, June 14, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Angele Jeanette Saadeh Angele Jeanette Saadeh, 68, of Amarillo died Monday, June 7, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. Jim Bankhead, of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Saadeh was born in Jerusalem on Jan. 6, 1936, and was raised in Bethlehem. She and her husband, Khalil, were former residents of Lebanon. They have lived in Amarillo since 2002. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Suzanne Saadeh of Beirut, Lebanon; a son, Dr. Constantine Saadeh and wife, Celeste, of Amarillo; three brothers, John Iskandarian of Zurich, Switzerland, and Edward Iskandarian and Hanna Nasrawi, both of Beirut; and two grandchildren, Charles and McKenzie Saadeh of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, June 14, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- H.V. Hassell H.V. Hassell, 84, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 13, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. J. Allen Ford, of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hassell was born in Childress on March 3, 1920, to Horace O. Hassell and Viola Griffin Hassell. He married Helen Norman on Oct. 24, 1942, in Childress. They moved to Amarillo in 1950 from Childress. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired in 1975 from ASARCO Inc. after 25 years of service where he had worked as a lab technician. He then worked for Montgomery Ward for 15 years, retiring in 1990. He belonged to the ASARCO 25 year club and was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter Vickie Ahrens and husband, Kenneth, of Lake Livingston; a brother, William O. Hassell and wife, Billie, of Denver; two grandchildren, Kevin Ahrens and wife, Amy, of Amarillo and Craig Ahrens and wife, Tisha, of Oklahoma City; and three great-grandchildren, Brock Ahrens, Bryce Ahrens and Brynn Ahrens, all of Oklahoma City. Janet spent eight years during the '70s active in Girl Scouts. She worked for Pyramid Life in the '90s. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Wood married Jessie L. Wood in 1935 in Wagon Mound. She was a member of Eastern Star. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Mlinar was born in Amarillo on Feb. 27, 1920. She was the daughter of Murray and Nora Knopp Elson. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1937 and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., where she received an associate of arts degree. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of arts degree, where she was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. In 1942, she married Clifford F. Mlinar. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1930. She was a member of Chapter B, P.E.O. for more than 60 years and also was in the Hepburn-Nevius- Whitman Circle, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Texas Republic. Many years ago, she had a Girl Scout troop and was on the YMCA board. During World War II, she was a Gray Lady and volunteered at the USO here in Amarillo. She loved to play bridge and to read. She was preceded in death by her husband in October of 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Cecile Mlinar Kizer and husband, Jim, of Littleton, Colo.; two grandsons, Jay Kizer and wife, Shannon, of Fort Worth and Kurt Kizer of Frisco, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Jenner and Abby Kizer, both of Fort Worth. Beck Yates, 47, died Friday, June 11, 2004, in Lockney. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dreamland Cemetery with the Rev. Melvin Clinton, pastor of First Baptist Church in Turkey, officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mrs. Yates had lived in Turkey for the last 23 years of her life. She married Russell Yates on Aug. 14, 1974, in Lubbock. She was an active member of the Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; a son, Cody Yates of Turkey a daughter, Crystal Yates of Clovis, N.M.; her parents, Tommy Beck of Turkey and Faye Crosby of Lubbock; four brothers, Jerry Beck and Jackie Beck, both of Quitaque, Joe Beck of Lubbock and Arthur Beck of Turkey; a sister, Kathy Farley of Turkey; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Dennis was born March 5, 1912, in Stephenville to Amos J. and Rose Rucker James. She had lived in Shamrock for 70 years before moving to Pampa in 1982. Survivors include a son, James Cannon of Pampa; a daughter, Jimmie Koch of Pampa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Fern Kidwell of Wheeler. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Balko Apostolic Faith Church with Fred Huff officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mr. Buechner was a farmer and rancher in Beaver County. He married Georgia Anna Cramer on Dec. 10, 1931, in Guymon. Survivors include two daughters, Edna Mae Zimmerman of Huntsville, Ala., and Karen Sue McNerlin of Argonia, Kan.; a brother, Virgil Eugene Buechner of Beaver; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
