McCoy Lucille D. McCoy, 71, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. McCoy was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Flagg, to Clyde and Faye Stephens Damron. She married C.E. "Jack" McCoy in Oklahoma. She worked as a bookkeeper for Baker and Taylor Drilling, Yucca Petroleum, Southland Oil Corp. and until she retired with Roach/Ashtola Exploration in 2003. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and a member of Desk and Derrick Club. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 10, 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda McCoy of Amarillo and Mary Lois Prosser of Weatherford; three sons, Mark McCoy of Amarillo, Steve McCoy of Edmond, Okla., and Joe McCoy of Weatherford; a brother, Clyde Harold Damron of Dimmitt; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. "Chuck" Layman, 76, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn Garrett, pastor to senior adults, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Layman was born in Hereford and was a resident of Amarillo for more than 50 years. He served in the Navy in World War II and was based in Hawaii. He married Charlene King in Clovis, N.M., in 1950. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone repairman for 37 years before retiring. Mr. Layman loved his grandchildren who called him "Pippi" and his favorite pastime was playing dominoes with family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pamela Elliott and husband, Dale, and Debbie Boeka and husband, Jerry, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Clyde Layman and wife, Bonnie, of Fritch and M.J. Mrs. Fugate was one of eight children. She was born July 1, 1919, in Baxter County, Ark. She lived the majority of her life in Arkansas, before moving to Amarillo 30 years ago. Georgia St. Mr. Lowder was born to Albert and Jessie Lowder in Muskogee, Okla., on Nov. 20, 1935. He came to Amarillo in 1940. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended West Texas State University and Amarillo College. Mr. Lowder served in the Army. He was in sales for many years and later owned Amtech Products Co. in Amarillo. He married Saundra Bates in Amarillo in 1967. Mr. Lowder was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Hamilton Lowder of San Diego; two sisters, Gay Butterfield of Amarillo and Melanie Grant of Las Cruces, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Amarillo with Pastor Meyer officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Simms was born in Borger on March 28, 1929, to John and Fanny McVey. She graduated from Alamo Catholic High School in Amarillo, and later married Walter L. Simms in Pampa in 1947. They lived in various towns along the Santa Fe Railroad including Umbarger, where she worked at the Rhinegold Restaurant before moving to Canyon in 1985. Nina was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Amarillo, and was also a member of the Altar Guild and Lutheran Charity. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Walter L. Simms of Houston, John N. Simms of San Bernardino, Calif., and James R. Mr. Mumford was a repairman and lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving during World War II. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in McLean Church of Christ with Pat Andrews of Abilene and Bright Newhouse of Clarendon officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mrs. Ware was born Feb. 18, 1909, in Fannin County. She was the daughter of James O. and Tina Goin Clark. She married Elmer R. Ware in 1927 in Lefors. Mrs. Ware had lived in the McLean area since 1914. She graduated from McLean High School in 1926. She had taught school for a number of years in Mobeetie, Miami and Farrington. She and her husband had also farmed and ranched. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Carter of Mobeetie, Kitty Nincehelser of Fort Smith, Ark., and Ginger Holwick of McLean; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Zybach Cemetery in Briscoe by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Elmore was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Huntington, Ark. He was the son of Thomas Houston and Mary Alice McBurnett Elmore. He married Nona Green on Oct. 5, 1933, in EricK, Okla. Mr. Elmore had lived in the Allison community since 1938. He was a rancher and a hog buyer and loved playing baseball. He had been a member of Allison School Board, the Church of Christ and was voted Farmer-Rancher of the Year by Wheeler Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Bowman in 1998; six brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sue Giddens and husband, Ray, of Wheeler and Phyllis Williams and husband, Carl, of Saginaw; a son, Larry Elmore and wife, LaDonna, of Allison; 12 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Douglas was affiliated with the Tulia Independent School District for 25 years as a teacher and elementary supervisor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Central Baptist Church with Joseph Vest, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Plains Sanctuary Mausoleum at Mission Garden of Memories by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Elms was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Alanreed, Texas, to Edward and Sarah Harris Elms. He graduated from Alanreed High School and from West Texas State Teachers College in 1938. He married J. Edna Pettit on Sept. 27, 1941, in Wellington, Texas. He taught in the Friona Public Schools before moving to Clovis to teach in 1943. He continued in the Clovis Public Schools teaching shop and government until his retirement. He was a member of Lions Club, worked in Boy Scouting and was a member of Central Baptist Church since 1943. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Gary Don Elms; four sisters, Poshia Elms, Annie Bell Brown, Mertie Lou Schaffer and Elizabeth Kunkel; and two brothers, George Washington Elms and Jasper Paul Elms. Survivors include two sons, Duane Elms and wife, Kathryn, of Silver City and Deryl Elms and wife, Linda, of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Jennifer Elms of Houston and Jeffery Elms and wife, Leslie, of Texarkana, Texas; two great- grandchildren, Archer Bishop Elms and Aurian Jade Elms; several nieces and nephews; and the loving staff of the Senior Citizen Residence Center. Amarillo Globe-News, June 17, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma James Donald "Jim" Hughes Jr. GUYMON, Okla. - James Donald "Jim" Hughes Jr., 65, died Monday, June 14, 2004. Services were at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Christeson Funeral Chapel in Harrison, Ark. A second service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon with the Rev. Jack Peck and the Rev. Michael Burkett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson- Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mr. Hughes was born to James Donald and Margaret Shields Hughes on May 5, 1938, in Guymon. He married Joy Carter Hughes on Dec. 3, 1982, in Clayton, N.M. Jimmy graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1956. He simply loved entertaining and seeing people laugh. As a child, he developed a love for the circus and, later in life, he enjoyed entertaining people in the hospital as a clown. Over the years Jimmy helped raise money for many different organizations with Vaudeville Shows. His love for dancing began at a very young age and continued throughout life by teaching ballroom dancing throughout Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Jimmy was a very talented interior decorator, floral designer and painter. For many years, he owned and operated Hughes Holiday Tours where he had the pleasure of taking people on tours to every state in the 48 contiguous states, as well as Alaska, the Bahamas and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of Harrison, Ark.; a sister, Donita McCarrell of Guymon; two daughters, Kari Hughes Wood of Oklahoma City and Phyllis Ann Hatfield of Halstead, Kan.; a son, James Lee Hughes of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Colton Lee Hughes, Atticus Lee and Makala Hughes, all of Oklahoma City, A.J. and Alison Owens, both of Hugoton, Kan., and Callie and Jayme Hatfield of Ottawa, Kan.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved pug, Slugger.
