Dutton Sr. Jerry W. Dutton Sr., 61, of Amarillo died Monday, June 28, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. John Watson of St. Peter's Episcopal Church officiating. Mr. Dutton was born in Miami, Ariz., and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. He served in the Army and later worked at Iowa Beef Processors. He married Lamoun Phommivong on April 18, 1994. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry W. Dutton Jr. of Florida; a daughter, Kathy of New Jersey; his mother, Oleta Dutton of Amarillo; two sisters, Peggy and Joy, both of Kansas; and two grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Cornelius "Corky" Anderson, 74, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 27, 2004. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Don Travis officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Anderson was born to Lawrence and Evalina Anderson in Perryton. He married Peggy Pierce in Booker in 1948. Mr. Anderson worked for Amarillo Plate Glass for 25 years. He enjoyed RV-ing and traveling with his family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janie Howell of Aledo; two sons, Tony Anderson and wife, Kae, and Pierce Anderson and wife, Deborah, all of Amarillo; three sisters, Leota Gross of Amarillo, and Dorothy Gray and Christine Warner, both of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Lawrence Anderson Jr. and wife, Bess, of Mesa; an aunt, Mary Russell of Perryton; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Interstate 40, with Lyndon Latham and Gene Shelburne, both ministers at Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Mrs. Elliott was born Jan. 27, 1937. She attended Amarillo High School. She received her LVN from Amarillo College. She worked at BSA Hospital, Palo Duro Hospital in Canyon and Southwest Osteopathic Hospital. She retired in 1999 from SCCI. She was a member of Anna Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her father, J.W. "Bud" Stephens; and a sister, Nelda Beth Stoddard. Survivors include her mother, Nellie B. Stephens of Amarillo; a brother, Roger Dale Stephens of Amarillo; a son, James Lee Richard and wife, Sherree, of Midland; a daughter, Christi Ann Willoughby of Amarillo; and three grandchildren, Brad Richard, Desiree Richard and Erin Willoughby. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Laurence Catholic Church with the Rev. Adalberto Ramirez of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Armstrong was born Oct. 30, 1922. She married Thomas Leo Armstrong in Pittsburgh, Pa., on April 26, 1947. She was an election judge for many years. She was a charter member of St. Laurence Catholic Church and was a very active member. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 29, 1991; and a son, Alan Francis Armstrong on March 14, 1995. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Vigil and husband, Nick, Rose Lange and husband, Leon, and Rita Young and Michael "Minnow" McMennamy, all of Amarillo, and Joan Glass and husband, Greg, of Waco; four sons, Thomas Armstrong and wife, Feather, of Terlingua, James Armstrong and wife, Elsie, of Holt, Fla., Daniel Armstrong and fiancee, Judy, of Amarillo and Seth Armstrong of Seattle; a sister, Mary Myers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Osage St. Mr. Varner was born in Cuthand. He moved to Amarillo in 1966 from Dimmitt. He worked for Wilson's Battery and Electric for 20 years as a diesel mechanic. He retired in 1991. He married Cleo Spencer in 1974 in Amarillo. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marcus Varner of Winchester, Va., Dean Varner of Amarillo and Ronnie Varner of San Angelo; a brother, Wilbert Varner of Hobbs, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She married Harley Swearingen on May 15, 1941, in Erick. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dick Swearingen of Oklahoma City and Phillip Swearingen of Wellington, Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Soule of Amarillo, Texas, and Billie Wallingford of Midwest City; and a brother, Leon Hobbs of Erick. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Church of Christ in Shamrock with Max McClendon, pastor, and Cottie Tarbet officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Massey was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Shamrock to Rufus and Julia Clark Massey. He married Ruby Cates on Dec. 15, 1936, in Wheeler. Herbert was a construction foreman for K.L. Towle and a farmer and rancher. He was a veteran of World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Shamrock Church of Christ and had been a member of the Shamrock Sheriff's Posse. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glen Massey. Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Massey of Shamrock; a daughter, Sherry McCasland and husband, Terry, of Wheeler; two sisters, Maxine Hamilton and Jo Ann Kelley, both of Killeen; two granddaughters; three great- grandchildren; one niece; and four nephews. Mrs. Norris retired from the Pampa Independent School District in October 2003 as cafeteria manager at Lamar Elementary School. She was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. Survivors include her husband, Bill; three sons, Grady E. Norris of Canyon, and Clifton D. Norris and Bruce A. Norris, both of Pampa; her parents, Clifton and Dovie Rasco of Pampa; two brothers, Gerald Rasco of Pampa and Tony Rasco of Choctaw, Okla.; two sisters, Travis Bowman of Harmon, Okla., and Priscilla Rasco of Choctaw; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with rites by Pampa Chapter No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Blain was a member of Pampa Chapter No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star, joining in 1968. She was a member of First Christian Church and was a homemaker. Amarillo Globe-News, June 29, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Bishop Davis McKendree AUSTIN - Bishop Davis McKendree, 84, died Saturday, June 26, 2004. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega with the Rev. Steve Cox, pastor of Vega United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. McKendree was born in Vega on Dec. 28, 1919, where he was raised. He was a cowboy on several Panhandle ranches, including the Landergin Ranch. He enlisted in the Army in February 1941 and served in the Pacific Theater of World War II, where he earned a Silver Star and several other decorations. He was captured on Corregidor and interned in Japanese prison camps for three and a half years, being liberated at the war's end. While there, he collected poems from his fellow POWs, which were published by Cornell University as "Barbed Wire and Rice" in 1994. He earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in 1952. While at the university, he met Beverly Biery and they were married in June 1952. He worked for 10 years for Gulf Oil Corp. in West Texas. Later, he accepted employment with the Texas Railroad Commission, retiring in 1987 with 25 years of service. He and his wife had lived in Austin since 1963. After retiring from his professional career, Mr. McKendree was active in veterans organizations including American Ex-Prisoners of War and American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, frequently volunteering time at the veterans outpatient clinic in Austin. Survivors include his wife; a son, Alan McKendree of Austin; two daughters, Jean McKendree and husband, John Mateer, of York, England, and Edith Ann Shipley and husband, Chris, of Brentwood, N.H.; and a brother, William Dudley McKendree and wife, Mardell, of Pampa. The family suggests memorials be to American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, 7401 Bull Run Drive, Centreville, VA 20121. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Boxwell Brothers at Vega. Amarillo Globe-News, June 29, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emma Jean Kniseley SAN DIEGO - Emma Jean Kniseley, 88, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Service arrangements are by the Neptune Society. Mrs. Kniseley had lived in Amarillo from 1949 to 1959, where her husband, Dr. V.V. Kinsley was assistant principal of Amarillo High School and then director of curriculum for Amarillo Public Schools. She was originally from Arkansas and was an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Polk Street Methodist Church and a founding member of St. Paul Methodist. She and Dr. Kniseley moved to San Bernardino, where they lived for 40 years until moving to San Diego to be near family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Warren and husband, Max; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson. The family suggests memorials be to Pt.
